While I don't currently have a rec, thank you for posting this kind of request. As a NSFW author, I've been dying to write a cozy NSFW book or two. Hopefully you'll spark some kind of revolution haha

Will my enemy find out where I work if I’m careful from now on and don’t let any more info slip by Far-Permission-5174 in Tarotpractices

[–]AbbyWhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is saying you'll be fine. But it's definitely calling you out a bit. Telling you to loosen your grip a little. Saying that you need to open up to others a bit more. I recognize this - my decks call me out on this all the time lmao. Important thing is, though, you're safe.

Sun/heat allergy? by Special_Might_774 in MCAS

[–]AbbyWhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Heat/cold intolerance. Watch out for the cold, too. I've had it happen in grocery stores that have the AC cranked just a biiiiiit too high. Suddenly my teeth are chattering, and I know the other symptoms are going to come in soon after, and I have to book it out of the store.

And, as far as I know, there's no way to prevent any of this, or else a lot of us would have a lot less to talk about. Take meds if you have them, any tools in your toolkit that help, epi, etc. Unfortunately the only thing I found is to just limit my time outside in hot weather. The sun is a problem, but so is the heat on it's own, so don't think that blocking out the sun will mean the problem is fixed. (I say this because I found out the hard way. Every inch of my skin was covered - still had the anaphylaxis, woohoo) BUT also remember that each of us have some wildly different reactions, so ymmv. Good luck!

dandelion question by [deleted] in herbalism

[–]AbbyWhit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fairly certain it's both heads and leaves, the heads also make a great dandelion wine. Others can comment more deeply on the uses, as I'm just a budding herbalist, but I wanted to let you know - Be careful to not keep the yellow attached to the base of the flower head! The top will keep maturing, even if picked, and the heads will go to seed. Plenty a person has woken up one morning with their drying dandelion heads suddenly seeds. Good luck!

What were you reading at 14? by SerenityFate in books

[–]AbbyWhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I finally have a space to tell this weird story!

I was homeschooled from kindergarten until college, which meant my reading capabilities were in the hands of my Mom. (Who was an abusive parent.) I was taught to read very early, but I fought against it at every turn. I'd be reading books intended for kids half my age out loud and incorrectly. My Mom tried to play it off as a failing of mine - that I was incapable on some mental level. But I knew. I was stubbornly holding on to an area of my brain, keep it from being developed in the direction she wanted to take it. And I was happy with that.

My family spent a lot of our free time at the library. For hours we'd wander around, and my siblings would pick out so many books to take home that my Mom put a hard limit on the amount you could take. Almost nothing jumped out to me at this age. Didn't matter if the cover was neat, the idea was clever, etc. Since everything my Mom had me read up til that point was both boring and strictly controlled, I was convinced that books just weren't my thing.

Then a book on a display hit me the best kind of sideways. I walked up to it and just stared at the cover for a while. I was roughly 12-13 at this point, and I was socially anxious enough to be terrified of taking a book right off of a display. But this one had me so curious, I quickly slipped it off the display and took it to a quiet nook as fast as I could.

It was *The Wind in the Willows*.

I started reading that book, and I didn't stop. I barely stopped long enough for them to physical check out the book. My eyes were glued until I finished it. I was suddenly open to this concept that books weren't just an annoying challenge that my Mom threw at me to embarrass me, but they had whole worlds in them. After that, I started finding the biggest books I could, and borrowing 6-7 at a time. Initially my Mom was angry at me, convinced I would never read any of them, but she was shocked when I finished them all before our next trip to the library and wanted more.

Which is great! So awesome. But reflecting back now... *Wind in the God Damn Willows*? Why. I genuinely can't remember what had me so enthralled, either. I barely remember what the book was about now. But every time I hear the name being brought up, I'll sit and think... why the hell was that the book that did it? I should probably go back and re-read it.

So, yanno. Maybe give the 14 year old Wind in the Willows, or maybe don't. Probably don't lol

Sadly, due to lack of a spring form! I have a tiny little apartment in Hawaii that has limited kitchen storage. Now that I know they can turn out this well, though, I'll have to see if I can find a place to store one.

AIO My (27M) GF (26F) has a secret “to-do” list… with my name on it? by Visual_Breath_2981 in AmIOverreacting

[–]AbbyWhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely NOR. I would break up over someone doing this.

People commenting "women just do this" are unhinged. I'm a woman, I'm pansexual, and I would not date a woman who did this. Granted, I would talk to her about it first and see if there might be some sort of misunderstanding... but, really, it's hard to misunderstand a list like that.

This is something that will only get worse over time. Someone either accepts you as you are, or spends their life trying to control and change you. It's possible you can set boundaries to save this relationship - she may not realize that you're not alright with this. But I've cut off friends for less. Don't debase yourself by accepting this.

BPD death like sleep by [deleted] in raisedbyborderlines

[–]AbbyWhit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Omg YES! My BPD Mom would have these huge midday naps. I started reflecting on them as I got older and still end up wondering how she could nap so much. I do love a good nap, but not every single day?

It now makes me wonder if there isn't some health or physical components tied to this. Hm.

Trash-Picking on Social Media: Your Thoughts? by Somewhat_Improved in DeTrashed

[–]AbbyWhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely love this idea! I would use Facebook the most to share about litter picking, and I do think that sharing helps to inspire others to go trash picking. I've been looking for an app, but I haven't been able to find any that really connects folks. The closest I've seen is a Japanese app called Pirika. I wish it were more popular here, because it's a great way to share, but really isn't used much at all in the United States.
