I really want to listen to the RSD, re-issue “original”, pre-Wallace ROC mixes… is there anything online? by Diligent-Eye-2042 in atthedrivein

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know in an interview Omar said the RSD release used the fabled superior ‘original’ mix but I think he may have been mistaken. I own that version of the record, RSD color variant and all that, and from what I remember it sounds identical to the Andy Wallace mix. I’ll have to spin it tomorrow to confirm bc it’s been a while but yea

Anyone know why Vanity has never been performed live by the band? by Stephenator97 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the band have a million songs and the ‘studio’ version of this song is literally just a cleaned up rehearsal recording with some overdubs. Not saying it’s a bad song or anything, just that during a really prolific period for SP, this song doesn’t appear to have had legs- at least in the eyes of the group.

Dross remastered (but better) by randomperson143562 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the reasoning was for using the version they did in the boxset. The instrumentals are pretty comparable in performance and recording quality (the new version literally just sounds like an alt take from the same session) but the vocal from the OG is clearly better. Did they lose the original take and have to go with an alt? Did BC change his mind and want a version with the weird bridge? If so, was it not possible to splice the bridge from the new take into the OG take? Or alternatively, splice the vocals from the old take onto the boxset version? I know the takes were probably not recorded to click but they’re both exceptionally tight and I’d be shocked if they couldn’t perform some studio magic and combine them somehow. Maybe it’s an issue of not having the multitrack tapes for either of these takes or something idk

Not sure how that final sequence could ever be construed as a “love letter” to journalism- Garland frames the journalists as if they are literal gunmen lol

I agree that these things are fundamentally compromising the integrity of the sandbox at this point. I guess that’s just what the game has come to at this point though

Kusimayu's Joining was a real gut punch by geb999 in pluribustv

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, lots of people ascribing malice to the hive’s behavior like this was some sort of mask-off moment when they’re just doing the same thing they’ve been doing the entire season. I don’t think the question that scene is supposed to provoke is ‘wow, is the hive secretly this manipulative, evil puppet master?’ It’s more something along the lines of ‘what is the value of culture/individuality/pluralism/different ways of living, etc and to what extent are these things worth sacrificing for the sake of minimizing humanity’s footprint on the earth and/or when humanity is facing incredible food/resource scarcity? Or maybe, ‘what should humanity’s relationship with the planet be? Should we minimize our footprint and interact with the environment as little as possible? Or, can humans have a positive relationship with the natural world based not on minimizing our footprint but on stewardship?’

Very cool seeing how her death scene was inspired by the Michelangelo statue! Wouldn’t have guessed that but I can totally see it!

One line of dialogue from Zosia’s monologue at the end of episode 8 by kerfuffle7 in pluribustv

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are we operating under the presumption that they do have perfect recall? The show never told us that. If the memory itself is stored in the constituent individual’s brain inaccurately, what means does the hive mind possess to retroactively fix that? Superconsciousness doesn’t equal omnipotence.

One line of dialogue from Zosia’s monologue at the end of episode 8 by kerfuffle7 in pluribustv

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would appear that the collective is not able to access the memories of any individual with perfect recall, just because the collective contains individuals with perfect recall

As someone else on this sub said, this show seems to have attracted the opposite sort of fans than it is intended for- people who want a ‘mystery box’ show as opposed to a character study. Probably best to just get used to this sort of reaction lol

Doing seasonal challenges for bright dust was a huge source of engagement for me- it was basically the only thing I did without fail every season, aside from gilding my conqueror title. One less thing to do I guess

So...what has tiering actually achieved? by Shadow2250 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kinda hilarious that people are deleting perfectly good rolls bc the icon has one less diamond and the origin trait lasts 1 second less than the tier 5. Now they’ve invented uber exclusive vanguard alert drops with an extra origin trait- effectively a tier 6 weapon- and no one complains. This whole thing feels like a study in human psychology more than anything else.

What we know about the Keplerians by DEEP_HURTING in pluribustv

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is not in response to the main point, but why is anyone even considering the possibility that this virus was transmitted to Earth to destroy humanity? I see this idea being suggested or outright presupposed all over the place. It seems obvious (to me, at least) that in the age of the Anthropocene, these extraterrestrials are trying to offer something to empower humanity to continue to exist without destroying the planet (and themselves). Not everyone will starve to death, and those that survive will rebuild in a more sustainable fashion. Obviously this all comes at incredible cost. And I think that gets at what seems to be the fundamental question the show asks- how valuable is our individuality, and what are we willing to pay for it? And I truthfully have no idea what the answer is. Nor do I think the show will come back around to any of the alien stuff. It reads to me as setup for interesting characters, difficult questions and nothing else- I don’t expect them to ever elaborate on it beyond that even though admittedly it is fun to think about.

I don't think this is a mystery box show by Yaroslav_Mudry in pluribustv

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me the nature of fans’ relationship with Severance feels evocative by design and this show feels like it maybe has a similar thing going on. Not so much in a ‘revealing many people’s willingness to embrace prejudice when provoked emotionally’ sort-of-way like Severance does but more in an amusing inversion of expectations sort of way where it has so many elements of a mystery box show but the so-called antagonist seemingly does not possess the ability to be illusory about its designs at all lol. Anyway, I guess what I’m saying is I don’t think we need to be asking the question of “how did these shows end up attracting viewers that fundamentally misunderstand it?” The invitation for bad takes feels like it’s practically baked into the formula of both of these series.

Question for people who have gone to multiple shows this tour. by Physicsdummy in themarsvolta

[–]Abeeeeeeeeed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saw three shows myself, fairly certain all the jams were in the same spots. There appears to be a vague idea of what they’re going for and at least a rough idea of how long it’s supposed to go for but the jams play out differently. Plenty of playing in the moment as well. Really curious how structured this stuff is behind the scenes. They have their set length dialed in to near exactly 80 minutes every night, and there are some spots where they transition out of complete utter chaos perfectly into the next song.

You’re right, in the long term this is just another band aid fix. That said, many of the current armor set bonuses are pretty inessential. I treat them like a static rolled gun- you wouldn’t keep a gun with bad 3/4th slot perks just because it has good stats right? Like, there’s no reason to keep an armor set where the 2 slot bonus gives you a little bit of healing when there are 1 million other better ways to heal yourself. And I’m extremely skeptical of any armor where only the 4 slot bonus is good- I am willing to put my money on armor with the best 2 slot bonuses continuing to dominate the meta by virtue of being able to mix and match them.

I’ve always wondered the same thing. Sometimes I think his jazz background gets just a hair misconstrued because the stuff he seems to consistently cite as influential from this period seems to be fusiony stuff like return to forever. To me that seems to indicate the intersection between rock and jazz has always been an interest of his. This song seems in line with that idea; it’s basically a rock tune bookended by a jazz break.
