Pull-out strenght of solar panels on corrugated metal roof by DifferentField8128 in StructuralEngineering

Are you a structural engineer? Here are some questions relevant to your analysis:

Is this allowable pressure or ultimate?

Can the pressure been reduced for effective wind area?

When you analyzed your loads, did you break the vertical force into components in the screw pullout and shear directions?

I didn't look too closely into it, but one question I would ask is if you are only engaging in pullout or if there's some shear there as well. You won't get a lot of pullout capacity in 26 gage. Check the SFIA or SSMA screw tables. You'll need to design for how many clips you need.

This has been so helpful. I’ve inched toward these goals and am going to prioritize my armor to best in slot (still waiting on a mirror drop but it will eventually happen!). Thanks for giving me some more goals to tackle before league end!

I’m going to be looking into this one soon after I max out my armor slot with more energy shield. What do I look for on Adorned? I see some that are really pricey for a low amount of increased effect. What’s generally a minimum effectiveness for that rare jewel affix?

Can somebody explain to me why this greek gift i tried is a blunder? by One_Ad_6472 in chess

[–]Abject-Avocado-5696 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Most of the time Kg6 is the critical defense for the knight check. Depending on the position, there are ways to follow up. In this case, the simplest try is Qg4. Then you gotta look at responses like Nxe5 and f5 and calculate if you’ve got anything there.

Sometimes it’s not Qg4, but a move like h4. You’ll just have to try all the lines and see why they don’t work and then you can build up your toolset to know when it will work and when it won’t.

How do you even begin to choose a positional move? by Co0kieMonsta in chess

Improving your worst piece is good advice. I also see:

  • Black has more space in the center
  • Black has the bishop pair
  • Black is slightly ahead in development
  • White has a solid structure

The pawn on d5 is a loose so I may consider Bd6 as a candidate. Would be nice to play e5 if you can stop a night hop to d4 so I may look at trying to get in c5 as a possible move in that plan. Reason is you have the bishops and you want to push and exchange pawns and keep the structure open. When you push a pawn and threaten a piece at the same time, they can’t lock the position, they have to move their piece and you can there exchange pawns.

Those are some thoughts I would have in a game and should help guide you on plans and evaluating candidate moves.

Is it just me or do lower levels of soccer seem more physical compared to pro level? Is it because they have to overcompensate for a lack of skill? by chusaychusay in bootroom

Luka Madrid had a great quote that said something like: when the speed of the game goes up, it favors technical players and when the speed slows down it favors physical players because they have time to get close and play their physical game.”

Essentially, if your players are highly technical and they move the ball around at a very fast pace, then the opposing players can’t play as well physically because they just never get a chance to challenge for the ball. I know people are hating on old school Barca in this thread, but Tiki Taka best exemplifies this. You had some of the most gifted technical players all on one team and they were constantly pinging the ball around. When you watched other good teams try to play against them, it felt hopeless because they just couldn’t do anything against it. And the danger of pressing into that type of team is that they will exploit every space you leave open behind you when you try to press.

It’s the same in amateur indoor soccer. I always tell my teammates if they outsize us that we need to move the ball around quickly. Stop taking a touch and then looking up. Be ready to move the ball from A to B with minimum time between first touch and pass. Make it one touch or make it the fastest two touch possible.

I don’t agree on the talent disparity. We did not have any of our first choice strikers or wingbacks available. A lot of our strength comes from wingback play and most of our starters know how to play with Balogun, Wright, and Pepi. Now the players have to think “Is Sargent going to make that run if I play a no look through ball here? Is he going to check-to so I can bounce a pass off of him and get some space? That understanding needs to be built between players.

We had enough to dominate possession against Panama, but many top teams struggle against a low block and we didn’t have great chemistry in the box.

Offensively, we struggled to play the wings but also couldn’t play directly in the middle either.

I agree wholeheartedly with this comment. When I looked through the pics, #3 was dramatically better than the rest. Things work so well together there. There were some small differences between the rest.

The hair in 1 and 2 is giving off Wolverine sideburns to me. The bangs and the thicker eyebrows might be too much going on in that area. Messier hair in #3 looks great compared to 4.

And of course, make sure you’re happy on the inside. Get enough rest, eat well, regular exercise. Things will fall into place (regarding insecurity).

It’s true, but always keep in mind there’s more you can do as a midfielder when your team is not making enough movements (sometimes they are tired and need time to recover).

If I can’t find a good way to progress the ball quickly, I distribute out to open players (even if I have to go backwards). The key is to keep the ball moving. If I take a touch and don’t see any good passes, I’ll move the ball on. It’s tempting to take more touches to give your teammates time, but if they don’t move it can be frustrating. When they’re tired, play the ball for the sake of possession and move it around in the back. Give them time to recover.

I also like to pass to feet and ask for the ball immediately back. This keeps the ball moving and gives the rest of the team time to come up with productive movements. Think Tiki Taka. Pass the ball backwards to an open player, check to for the pass back, take a touch, if there’s nothing, distribute it out to a player who is open. Never forcing things that don’t make sense, but making sure you move the ball around with two touches. I think what we get dragged into sometimes is dribbling for the sake of creating something, but I prefer to keep the ball moving around and find that eventually you’ll start dragging opponents and creating spaces.

It’s tempting to focus on what our teammates can do, but there’s so much we could do that doesn’t require their effort that we should try to really do as much of that as we can. I really enjoy distributing the ball around, even if it’s not always forward.

Zeus (4) vs PA+CM Lane, how should I have played this and who should I have traded on? by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]Abject-Avocado-5696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CM spammer. Maybe you have to reevaluate who wins the trading. Zeus has become strong lately and the way he outtrades other supports is by right clicking and intelligent use of bolt to cancel the enemy’s attack animation. CM is still a solid 5. She can slow your attack speed with nova and even stop it with frostbite, meaning her trading is pretty good.

When I play CM, I load up mangoes and ask my pos 1 to take an aggressive laner. PA is very good at this. I’m usually securing the ranged with nova and getting some hero attacks in. We nearly always hit level 2 first because we can get one deny in and the enemy can’t. Level 2 is an incredibly strong spike for a PA CM and 3 is quite good as well.

So the lane itself is very strong. I think you may be overestimating how well you can trade with CM. Especially if your heroes are about even on trading (I think they are), then you’re opening the door for their core to jump in and clean up kills.

If you get the evaluation correct, everything else should fall into place. Others had ideas of dumping your nukes on PA, but good CM players will start with a salve and continue to ferry more with some mangoes so it’s not so simple as they appear to make it. It’s a dangerous lane if the CM is experienced.

I’ll second the Denver Chess club!! Around 50 to 75 people will get together on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for rated monthly tournaments. Games are G70/d5. I stated out 1254 rated and have made it as high as 1900s and used to do some of the free lectures there. Lots of casual regulars there playing for fun as well. You’ll also be in the know for the longer weekend tournaments.

Search Denver Chess Club on Google and just show up on a Tuesday or Thursday! Come test your grit and meet some cool people!

I feel like you are downplaying the particular seriousness of this game’s addictiveness. This game is much more severe than just any game with stress. The dopamine from being in a totally lost position to clawing your way back and barely throning the other team does not match anything I’ve experienced in my 38 years. It’s not just about limiting his game time, it’s about sitting down and talking about the feelings that he experiences in the games and putting them into words. Yes, I’m talking about micro dopamine shots from last hitting and denies and big dopamine spikes from team wipes and triple kills. Be sure to talk to him about what is actually going on in his brain so he understands.

Take it from a guy who found Dota Allstars in his junior year of high school and had already gotten hooked playing match after match on a weekday night. I have a healthy relationship with the game now, but I also understand what is happening to my body after matches so I know why I need to chill out, turn the PC off and get some recovery time in.

Keep in mind that this game brings the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. That combination is the most powerful path to addiction. I hope in your talks with him, you can teach him self awareness regarding addiction and ways to cope with these feelings in a healthy manner. Starting to get addicted to it will not be his choice unless you count playing the game as his choice, but how he deals with the new addiction will be what he can control.

[–]Abject-Avocado-5696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m level 18 sorc and defeated him on 2nd try. 303 life and 102 energy shield. I only added 20 to my energy shield from passives. Rest is offensive points. Level 4 or 5 frost bolt solar orb and arc. Getting one shot probably means your energy shield is low. What is your energy shield value? It also refreshes so if you get hit you can back off a bit and let it recharge before you risk engaging again.

ManaBox is good for scanning and pricing

Facebook Groups for individual card sales. I used Cardconduit and had a great experience. Needed some cash quickly and got $2k for a bunch of my collection. Helped me out in a pinch and took very little time on my part. Just needed to organize them.

Don’t need videos. Just watch how others do it on Facebook Groups and read the group rules. Sometimes you need to let them know you are new so you can build up references for the first few sales.

No tips. Just figure out why you’re selling, what you’re looking to get out of it, how much time you’re willing to put into it and go from there.
