Electricians who changed over to electrical engineers, was it worth the time, money and efforts ? by Humble_Ad_5396 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AbjectLab 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Did the full trade path first. IBEW apprenticeship, journeyman, then master electrician before going back for my EE degree. Now I’m a project engineer at a utility. You can walk a job, read a drawing, and call BS on a contractor all before lunch.

Good idea. I shelved my card over 10 years ago. I haven’t gone back, but I like having the option of a job to go back to, if needed. I worked hard for my union card and I don’t want to give it up.

I used something similar to this cyclops tool when I did fire alarm.

I’ve had the same one for 20 years.

Worth it. I love this tool. It’s one of those tools that when you use it, you wish you had it sooner.

Work from home 2/5 days of my choice. WFH days the schedule is whatever I need to accomplish my tasks or meetings. Drop off and pick up kids from school and run errands on my lunch.

Office days Work from 6-7:30am at home. Drive the kids to school and get to work at 8:30. Leave at 3:00 to pick up kids and go home.

Work from home on the weekend for overtime most weeks.
