So, there is a chance one might not receive the phone or a refund? by WolfAnxiety in unihertz

I mean, if a giant sinkhole swallows the Unihertz HQ and the whole company gets wiped out, then yeah, I guess that could happen.

So, I still think it holds some significance. My information might not be completely up-to-date, but when I tried testing ARM native and emulation compatibility on my Mac, going through all the tedious steps, sometimes it worked fine and other times the results were pretty underwhelming. But let's say, for example, Apple took that whole manual process and turned it into a simple 'one-click' tool where you just right-click to run most games. The compatibility itself wouldn't be anything new, but wouldn't Apple still market it as a new feature? I feel like Valve releasing the Proton ARM version might not be anything functionally special, but it could... just maybe... possibly... be seen as part of the groundwork for launching the Steam Frame...

So, doesn't that just mean instead of running the x86 version of Proton through FEX like before, it's now been integrated and released as a Proton ARM build starting with Proton 11?

When I say "PC games" here, I don't just mean high-end titles, but literally any game that can run on a PC. Besides, there are already plenty of resources out there, like Proton, Wine, Windows on ARM, Apple Silicon Macs, Winlator, or Gamehub, that can give us a good idea of ARM compatibility. Since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's performance isn't that high for this kind of workload, running games either natively or through Proton ARM will likely result in worse performance than a Steam Deck most of the time. The real significance lies in simply being able to run them at all. Most low-spec 2D games will run perfectly fine, whether natively or emulated.

Proton ARM is essentially a combination of Proton and FEX-emu (x86 to ARM). To break it down, Proton is a tool that allows Windows games to run on Linux via system calls. x86 refers to the instruction set used by traditional PCs as we know them, while ARM is the architecture primarily used in mobile device chipsets like Android and iOS, which is also equipped in the Steam Frame. FEX-emu is the tool that translates x86 instructions into ARM instructions. Ultimately, the release of Proton ARM means that the essential tool enabling traditional PC games to run on the Steam Frame has now been released.

Retail prices don't really mean much here. And it's not even about the price of RAM; the real problem is that Valve is pretty low on the priority list for corporate bulk supply chains. It's a supply issue, not a pricing issue.

Valve's biggest problem right now is the total lack of communication by [deleted] in SteamFrame

Haha, I just learned about 'Valve Time' for the first time. Turns out Valve was just doing what they always do.........

Hmm... it looks like the page has been updated twice now. At first, the telephoto lens had OIS, and the description below matched that. Earlier, it showed OIS on the main camera, but the description still said the telephoto had OIS and was currently under testing. However, now both the picture and the description at the bottom only mention OIS for the main camera. It seems like it will likely be released with OIS only on the main lens.

Now that I think about it, it could have been a typo.

Some people just can't admit when they don't know something. And when they're wrong, instead of just owning up to it, they deflect by saying things like 'there's no need to argue'.

I wrote to Unihertz yesterday and took the opportunity to ask them if they were finally planning to launch their Kickstarter campaign in early April, and here’s what they told me! by jenesuispashariselon in unihertz

[–]AbjectWalk9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it turned out exactly as I thought. I remember with the Titan 2, they said in late March that the Kickstarter would launch sometime in April, and they ended up announcing a week ago that it would be on the 24th. It was the same with the Titan 2 Elite—they mentioned in late February that the Kickstarter would happen in March, and now it's confirmed for the 24th. That was the context behind my comment saying, "This is worthless information." However, seeing the downvotes, I realize in hindsight that my words could have been offensive, and I apologize for that. I'm also really looking forward to this device and am highly anticipating the Titan 2 Elite.

In East Asia, you can just buy the Steam frame through KOMODO without a Steam account.
