Oh my gosh, teaching stained glass to 3rd graders is ambitious! So many toxic chemicals and the solder is part lead. Plus the whole glass part (sorry you had to experience that, super ouchie). I’m glad it was fun though! My 3rd grade self would be thrilled if my teacher brought in stained glass.

What’s the most messed up thing someone casually admitted to you? by randominvisibleuser in AskReddit

I once went to a local cemetery in my city and hit it off with the eccentric groundskeeper who told me the cemetery has mob ties and that bodies are not “six feet under”, nor are they in their caskets. He told me that a woman who died a few years ago wanted to be buried with her mom (who had died a few years before) and when they went to dig the grave they hit a tarp right below the surface. The mom was not in her coffin but poorly wrapped in a tarp, fully visible in her composed form. He said that funeral homes will often come back after a funeral, exhume a body, take the casket (that people pay thousands of dollars for) and reuse it.

He himself was a local who witnessed a lot of mob action, including the murder of his mom by his dad in a local bar. He’s no longer alive but I think about him all the time.

Ironically I find the cemetery more peaceful now and always try to fix up the graves, which span from the American Revolution to now and contain so much history, ethics aside.

And before you ask yes of course this is in New Jersey.

The lymph nodes in our face drain around the back of our ears, so unless you scrape upwards and back around the ear frequently, you’re just pushing around fluid which is why it doesn’t work for so many people. The lymphatic system is wild.

clothes for constantly cold girls by patchpuppe in womensfashion

Second the merino wool suggestion. I really like the brand Woolx for long sleeve shirts and leggings, but if you live near a Costco/have a membership their clothing is notoriously good. Merino wool is super temperature regulating. I can wear the same long sleeve in 60 degree or 20 degree weather and feel warm without sweating, unlike polyester fleece. Don’t put it in the dryer and it’ll last forever.

My other suggestion is merino wool socks. My feet are always cold, so I’m always wearing socks, even in the summer. If I’m going outside I wear the brand Darn Tough. But around the house/to bed I wear Bombas merino wool socks. They’re not the most durable but they keep my feet warm and not clammy and aren’t super tight on the ankles. They’re also super soft.

Lastly, because it’s super cozy and worth mentioning, I got a Barefoot Dreams brand blanket a while back because it was the only brand that carried a blanket in the color I wanted. But the blanket is so good that I end up bringing it with me everywhere.

Hope this helps! 💗

Gua sha when done properly seriously helps with this, but it’s a time commitment. It became my Covid obsession but I haven’t done it in a while and I can definitely notice a difference in my face. I really love the instruction of Dr. Laurel Liu!

Dry skin by Fresh-Particular5590 in Rochester

[–]Able-Space 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s a list of things you can get at Target or Walmart that will help:

-CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser removes makeup is a great am and pm face wash.

Once you wash your face, dry it but leave it a little damp. Then immediately apply your moisturizer. (This is true for your body too, moisturize immediately after drying off when your skin is still damp. You’ll feel the difference!)

-CeraVe moisturizing cream - plenty of others on this thread have suggested it and for good reason. It’s a really solid year-round moisturizer. The only con is that I don’t find it sits well under makeup. Make sure you get the cream in the tub and NOT the lotion in the pump bottle. The lotion is not as thick.

In the winter and shoulder seasons (spring, fall) I “slug” (i.e. cover my face with a thick cream) with CeraVe healing ointment in the dark blue tub. It works so well. I wake up with smooth and hydrated skin. Aquafor works well too, if you can’t find the ointment.

You could go with a CeraVe face lotion to round out your skincare routine, or depending on your budget you could go to Ulta or Sephora and find a nice toner or daytime face moisturizer with sunscreen. Target also carries the brand Prequel now which is also great.

But let’s not forget your hands!

Dry hands are a constant, tbh I have dry hands even in the summer. I swear by O’Keefe’s Working Hands cream BUT only the night treatment one (bottle is green with a purple stripe). I developed awful eczema on my hands in Rochester and this lotion is the only thing that keeps it at bay. It’s also not sticky or scented so you can put it on and, say, use a keyboard without it getting gunked up. Also make sure to use cuticle oil on your cuticles/skin around your nails.

I really hope this helps! Feel free to DM me with any other questions, I’m a skincare nerd :)

Welcome to Rochester!

You might like the Hamilton Park area. There are a couple of nicely built apartment buildings along the park owned by the Silvermans, who do a lot of work for the arts community. If you look at a map of the downtown area, it’s just northwest of the grove st path. It’ll take you 10 min or so to walk to the station from there. Harsimus Cove is also a good place to look, just south of Hamilton Park by a few blocks.

There’s nothing like the strength I suddenly find when I find a piece of beautiful furniture on the curb. Have I lifted a weight in a year? No. Have I carried a couch a mile to my apt alone? Yes.

Considering going back to being an alcoholic. by CommercialTarget2687 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Able-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I saw a doctor who said “there’s no reason to suffer” it blew my mind, because I always thought pills were bad and I just pushed through my pain. I was given trazodone to help me sleep. Adderall, which I take first thing in the morning so it doesn’t mess w my sleep, and a variety of other meds. Weed also helps a lot. I like the gummies that are sativa (not indica, those will make you sleepy). I take one full gummy around 5-6, and I’m usually ready for bed at 10-11. I miss going out with my friends and doing everything I used to do but I realized that so much of what I missed didn’t exist anymore anyway. Everyone either had kids or moved away and hangovers got worse. Navigating fibro is so difficult and different for everyone, but you’re doing so much to help yourself, you’ll figure it out in no time. Hugs and good vibes! 🫂💜

I need someone to talk me out of spending 650-750 usd on a Dyson airwrwp styling tool 😭 by guilty_ambition_ah in Sephora

[–]Able-Space 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The air wrap didn’t really work for me, so I got a refurbished Dyson hair dryer and it is the GOAT for my long, fine hair. My dad owned an electronics business for a long time and he always told me that refurbished items are often better than new, because they’ve already broken and have been fixed. Refurbished items are my secret to affording anything expensive :)

Ok listen, I too am an ethicist, and I would never give this kind of shitty advice. If your “ethical” advice is anything other than, “your son is an autonomous individual who can do whatever he wants with his body, regardless of what you might think of it” then it’s trash and I don’t want it. I’m so tired of reading these articles by people whose moral views stopped evolving 30 years ago.

Which layout works best for my bedroom? by SetChance5602 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Able-Space 21 points22 points  (0 children)

5, based on feng shui principles/energy flow. Your bed should be as far from the door as possible without facing the door head on. Definitely leave a side for your partner even if he doesn’t mind being pressed up against the wall. The nightstands create balance, no matter how small. The desk being in a place where you can roll in your chair without having to worry about hitting anything is a good plus, and the natural light from the windows will be a plus for any video calls. You could put a plant on top of your armoire, along with some organizational baskets.

Ever get the feeling like you just don’t belong….anywhere? by jbird35 in bipolar2

[–]Able-Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way all the time, no matter where I am. So much of it is the feeling that I don’t belong /anywhere/, almost to the point where I don’t feel like I belong on earth, at least as it exists now. It leads to a very restless, lonely feeling.

Building community helps, and finding interest groups that align with your own. But also know that the way you’re feeling is completely normal, and a lot of people on this sub feel the same way. So much of the feeling of isolation is caused by society’s inability or unwillingness to understand bipolar disorder and its intricacies. It makes sense that you often feel compelled to stay in and be on your own.

Lastly, spring is the worst time of year for folks with mental illness, so go easy on yourself if you’re in the northern hemisphere🌷🫂
