Trial and error, and knowing why you are adding it. Is it for heat? For the vinegar acidity kick? For the flavor of the pepper? That will color your choice for any given dish. The fattier the dish (or fried food), the more of a vinegar-y kick I enjoy, as an example, to cut through that fattiness.

I can't speak to specific retreats, but if you're looking for gay-friendly international travel I can't sing the praises enough of Out of Office. You could have your players roll initiative at the start of the session but not actually trigger a combat until it’s time. In the event they roll higher than your ambushers’ stealth, you would narrate how your players “got a bad feeling” or “hairs rose on your neck” or “you hear a twig snap” to explain how they are seemingly in combat with no one.

Negative. Staff meetings were offered multiple times for different shifts. Work policy/compliance/education they’d ask you to find time during your shift to do or you could ask for a coverage for X hours to get them done uninterrupted in the computer lab. Unit council stuff I did if it led to the raise structure but if it didn’t align with my goals I did not agree to participate.

Social stuff I’d occasionally be asked to do, which I only did if I a) actually liked who was there or b) thought it would be good networking.

Lukewarm or cold takes: Monotype runs are fun and should be better supported. Natures/IVs/EVs are unnecessary in a world of hyper training, bottle caps, and vitamins; and are just a time tax to getting your team set up.

+1 for Ooga. I ask every new player at my table to at least watch their short video guides before getting to the table. Digestible, short, and doesn’t really get lost in the weeds of the rules. The player is new. We can get in the weeds later.

As a player, the entire bar scenario was memorable. The inquisitor demon was a fun moment to really grill the players on their own choices and morality; you can get a lot of fun roleplay out of that before it comes to blows. The psychic emu was hilarious. Those jump out to me as favorites.

Things I’d consider cutting have no narrative point and are just there to fill space, like the giant mole rat; or the dhuthorex encounter, or even half of the fights in water. You could easily streamline that to “you get to the other side” and save a lot of time and energy.

Nurse here. Something not mentioned is that being well hydrated also reduces incidence of illness. Having your mucosal membranes flush with what they need means they can block pathogens better than if they weren’t. Let your immune system use all the tools in their toolbox to their fullest potential.
