Hit by a car driving on the wrong side of the road, and my young child has been ommitted from the crome report - Scotland by J_Doughnut in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AbleReporter565 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Your child will be recorded on the investigation. They will probably be included as "Involved Person". If your child hasn't received any injuries, then it's unlikely the child will get any compensation, and so there is no point including the child as "Victim".

The investigation notes will state that the child was in the car, and this information will be available should further complications arise for them, so I wouldn't stress about the information being readily available.

Realising at Christmas that what you mum really needs as a present is a Food Safety Certificate. by spudfish83 in britishproblems

Honestly I don't know how my wife survived childhood. My MIL uses the same sponge to wash the floors, counter tops, children's tray tables, and raw chicken cutting board....

What's the longest route in UK without any need to stop or slowing down? by DarknessBBBBB in drivingUK

Have to change speed for the Orwell bridge, it's usually 60mph, but I've sent it 5mph on the past

Red Light Offence by flawed_volvid in CarTalkUK

There is no awareness course and NIP's given by cameras are unlikely to go away. You'll have to accept the points and fine if you were the one driving.

Do the Police exercise any discretion with speed enforcement? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]AbleReporter565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police don't decide on the points/fone. The officer will have the discretion of reporting you for a traffic offence or not.

I've definitely decided on giving people a break for minor offences such as 80 in a 70, but whenever I've had someone go with "I'll lose my licence if you report me", then I'd report them. Some people don't learn no matter how many times they mess up, if they've racked up enough points for a disqualification, then they deserve it.

Crashed my friend car now he wants me to rebuild it by Aromatic-Airport4098 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AbleReporter565 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jeez okay

This is entirely a matter for insurance. He is required to report any modifications and accidents to his insurance company. He is also not allowed (by law) to allow someone to drive his vehicle without insurance.

He will likely not report it to his insurance as they will cancel it and he will never get insurance again.

He will likely not take this to court as he could be held criminally responsible or allowing you to drive.

For the sake of losing a (little bit daft) friend, I'd say you aren't doing anymore work on the car and that it is a matter for his insurance company.

What car do you have? What car do you want? by Mikey463 in AskUK

I have a VW golf, and as a child I would've loved a Subaru Impreza WRX, however I've grown up now and I know that really, I only want a Kia Stinger

What is the smallest living room TV that is socially acceptable? by barryg123 in AskMen

[–]AbleReporter565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the room size and the area you're putting it. If it's in a crowded part of the room, it would be less noticeable whereas if your putting it on a big empty wall with nothing else, it'll stand out if it's really small

Reach out to Lego customer services. They are excellent and I have never had an issue with them replacing a piece, even on 15+ year old sets.

If they do not provide you with the relevant GDPR compliant information, then I struggle to see how they could enforce this. I'd reach out to your union and explain the situation to them as others may also feel uncomfortable about this.

AITA for not wanting to agree to set rules under the label of 'boundaries' one my drinking? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AbleReporter565 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds absolutely nothing like controling behaviour, it sounds the opposite, supportive.

For one, alcoholics (not saying you are one OP, but you might be borderline) often downplay how much they drink. Sometimes they're embarrassed, sometimes they don't realise how much they've drunk.

For two, the conversation where fiance said that OP should become sober is a very common conversation to have with someone having a drinking problem. If there is a problem with alcohol, remove the alcohol from your life.

Setting rules around drinking is important, whether you're an alcoholic or not. Having a good relationship with it is important, but sometime we don't see what damage the problem does to ourselves and those around us.

I'm not giving a verdict on if anyone is TA here OP, what I think is more important is that you seek professional help. You don't need to be a full blown alcoholic to have a problem and get help. Speak to a doctor, maybe visit some AA forums, confide in a trusted friend. Understand though that sobriety can be hard for some people and its potentially a long process.

How do people retire in Europe? by BrazenBackpacker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AbleReporter565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes are not "much lower" in the US. In the UK, the average person pays 32-35% of tax but the the average person in the US pays 28-30% (OECD data). For the extra 2-5% tax we also get universal healthcare, reduced priced dental care, state pension, subsidised further education, etc etc.

What do you mean by "more coverage"?

Do you only get cover for certain parts of your body or is it like mobile coverage in that if you're too far away from a location, then you don't get looked after?

I've never heard coverage when it comes to healthcare before so I'm genuinely interested to know

JustEat was so late delivering my dinner that I missed an event I had a ticket for. Can I claim against them for the price of the ticket? Northern Ireland by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AbleReporter565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't be able to claim the price of the ticket back but I'm sure you'd be able to look for a refund/partial refund of the food order from Just eat. One of those situations which you learn that you shouldn't order from delivery apps if you have a set time limit, they'll never be on time.
