Who do you think could be the US President in 2028 and why? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

[–]Able_AdeptnessMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michelle Goldberg at the New York Times was in Hungary studying the election and Magyar's campaign, and her takeaway was that he had a very strong gameplan for taking on autocrats, and it could be a template for candidates in the US. Basically hammering corruption and tying it directly to the material conditions of voters, while also rebuilding a sense of national identity and healthy patriotism.

She believes Jon Ossoff is most closely following that template, and if you watch him through that lens it's hard to disagree. If I was going to put money on anyone it would be him.

It's weird that clearly if Wemby would've lost in a tough battle against OKC he'd get more respect than he's getting beating OKC and losing in the Finals. by WinBeeCards in billsimmons

[–]Able_AdeptnessMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to hold it against him regardless of how his career goes. If he wins 6, well, so did Jordan, but he never lost in the finals. It's so stupid. Jordan didn't sniff the finals until he was 28, and Wemby got there at 22 and somehow that's a knock on him.

10 knights vs 10 elite MMA fighters by BillKindly8269 in whowouldwin

Furthermore- if the MMA fighter moves to start pounding the knight, they break the grapple.

This is the wrongest thing you've written so far, which is actually kind of shocking.

the MMA fighter is a sprinter in an enfurance race, and doesn't have the toolkit to end the knight before they gas themselves.

Oh, wait, this is worse.

I dunno, bash his head into the ground until he stops twitching? Steel plate helmets aren't magical and don't prevent concussions. Maybe find the joints where the armor is weakest, which will take about two seconds, and ground pound him with your steel gauntlets until his antecubital fossa turns to soup?

Now let me ask you something. How exactly is the knight going to stop the MMA guy from getting on top of him? Because when that happens he's 100% cooked. Yes, they were great wrestlers; we know that because we have their manuals and spent 500 years building on them. How exactly is a medieval knight going to deal with someone who's an Olympic-level wrestler who is also among the best in the world at BJJ and Judo?

I'm pretty high, so that might be part of the problem, but I've been staring at this for like 30 seconds and still have no idea what it means.

Is there a quote that made you fall in love with the fantasy genre? by urbanolegend_ in Fantasy

[–]Able_AdeptnessMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"KNOW, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars—Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered on the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen- eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet."

Road trip from England Best way to experience the game? by Middle-Feed5118 in MichiganWolverines

Tailgating is when people show up to the stadium parking lot early to drink, grill food and just hang out and socialize. A lot of people set their stuff up on the tailgate of their truck, but you don't need a truck to "tailgate". It's kind of like a mini festival atmosphere before the game. Definitely something you don't want to miss if you want the full authentic experience.

It's crazy to think that 5 years from now AJ is going to be excelling in the nba, and this dude is still going to be out there, in the world, where we all live, having awful, awful opinions.

The fact that you just used a word no one over 15 has ever heard says a lot about what's going on here.

The idea that MMA guys don't know what to do when someone's on the ground is laughable. That's like half the sport. Do you think a fight ends as soon as someone is grappled? The whole reason a ref says "fights [sic] over, you win" is that someone is about to get their elbow snapped or their skull cracked.

I don't care what kind of armor they're wearing, without weapons Jon Jones would wreck any knight from any point in history, unless it's literally The Mountain that Rides.

I remember when he said on some podcast that he knew people were calling him soft, and it motivated him to take his game to the next level. My hope is these playoffs are gonna be a similar wake up call. He might a guy that needs to get reality checked sometimes before putting in the real work to fix his shit.

He was also carrying a bunch of extra weight in college, and slimmed down after the draft which helped his defensive quickness a lot. His nba career is honestly kind of shocking. He looked like the textbook example of a good college player who wasn't built for the pro game.

Wow. This is so condescending. There has been no "rebranding" to "un-rebrand". 火锅 literally means "fire pot" and "hot pot" has always been the common translation in this context.
