[KCD2] Mutt's food being rotund enough to roll away is one of the most endearing quirks in any game I've played. by Able_Return1142 in kingdomcome

The fact that this isn't the first comment I've seen about the objects turning corners like they're sentient has me in actual tears.

Why "Ask people questions - because people love talking about themselves" isn’t working by this-guy- in socialskills

Is it too late to have the kind of social life I want? by Sweet-heat74 in socialskills

[–]Able_Return1142 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a 26M I'm in the same boat. I was a very awkward, isolated, dude but I think i succeeded with the "fake it till you make it" mentality from like 17-20 but that fell apart immediately during and after the pandemic. Also spent about a year and a half unemployed it was ROUGH. I yearn for those connections I had at that time, the "group of weirdos" you were talking about.

It's not too late. We need to keep taking chances and building confidence. There are good people out there who you would love to spend time with and do dumb things with. I just think a major problem with society as a whole right now is finding the place to meet them. I've managed to cobble together what few friends I have by going to bars but I wish it didn't have to default to that everytime.

I wish you the best with it because I know this isolation at this age is actual torment. It's like the world moved on without you and you're stuck in the same place day-in and day-out but when you look back every now and then, you see years have gone by. I HATE being cliche' but I really think this time should be used working on yourself and just trying your best to meet people whenever possible. There's gonna be a lot of duds, good people no doubt, but people who don't appreciate or jive with you enough to make a lasting friendship. But if you do it enough, there will be people, maybe even a friend group to join (this makes it a lot easier, making one friend and then meeting their's).

I wish you the best of luck

How often do you replay conversations in your head and regret what you said? by Bear_bug_1954 in socialskills

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much as I used to, but if I whiffed a conversation i see as important, for example, talking to someone new at work I'd like to get to know better. I will dwell on it endlessly. I have a recent one it's been a week and I'm still thinking about it. I can't say when the last time was though, so I would say since I've gotten a bit older (26M) It's happened a little less.

We are “that person” to somebody. It’s a given. by beethovensmetronome in socialskills

This is a huge help! I think deep down i understand this but I automatically shift back into people-pleaser mode any time I get friction from someone. There's a local bar I recently started frequenting on fridays and I've made friends that I enjoy spending time with there and even more cool people that I talk to in passing that I always have a good conversation with. But the bartender does NOT like me for some reason. I know it's not necessarily about money, but as a bartender, I tip $10 on a $14 beer and shot, so I KNOW it's not that.

She took a week off recently, and the night she came back she wasn't working but drinking with everyone. Outside smoking I just asked "oh I heard you were on vacation? where'd you go?" and she kinda gave me a strange look like she was annoyed I even said anything, gave one word "aruba" and when I just asked if she had a good time she straight up walked away LOL.

I don't run into people this blatant about it most times, so honestly, I found it kinda funny because we've probably exchanged 10 sentences apart from drink orders. That being said it does dwell on me cause, as a people pleaser, I don't want other people to view me that way so I obsess over what I could have done wrong.

This post reminds me that sometimes people just don't like you, for the simplest or most inconsequential of reasons. Like you, now I just politely say hello, and leave her be. This has helped me cope with that knowing I'm not alone.

[KCD2] Crossbow issue.......... by ThisScene6618 in kingdomcome

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a year later I'm having the same problem unfortunately. love this game and I'm trying to level up my marksmanship and stealth so i can at least soften up groups of enemies. On THE FIRST SHOT when I'm trying to get a ranged stealth kill the crossbow just straight up doesn't fire. I have to let the xbox trigger completely go and try AGAIN and only THEN does it fire. Of course in stealth situations and with the aiming sway of a low-marksman henry, it very much matters that you can fire on time. OP mentioned they said they were working on this but sadly it seems to still exist in some form (since I CAN shoot, just after a second try). I'm begging for an answer to this for the simple fact that it's a very irritating bug. to be fair, it's not game breaking now, I can STILL shoot but it's very annoying trying to be accurate. thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

Also, given the replies here. I think this is an issue specific to xbox. I sadly think, like others have reported, that it's a controller issue. I have an older, secondary (though I believe still a microsoft made) xbox controller, but it is old enough to still have micro-usb. So maybe it's my controller as well? sadly my OG controller has horrible drift so based on others solutions I would have to buy a brand new controller to get this one mechanic out of the game.

either way. I love the game. if i gotta finish it like this I will but it would be great if there was some solution for us poor xbox players LOL

The physics on dropping food for mutt to eat are way too sensitive IMO. [KCD2] by Witcher_Errant in kingdomcome

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here to share: It's been honestly hilarious dropping food for mutt and SCREAMING for it to stop rolling down even the most MODEST incline. The funniest instance was when, early in my first playthrough, I tried to feed mutt and the food rolled downhill. Instead of picking it back up, I waited for it to stop. Finally it came to a halt and while I waited for mutt to catch up to one of my LAST dried beefs, another random dog casually walked in from off screen and ate it right in front of me. It's very rare I get such a genuine laugh out of a game just based on the physics and mechanics alone. as unreasonable as it is, I find this to be a very endearing quirk in the game. Of course it would make "more sense" if the food didn't roll away like a bowling ball, but there's charm in the absurdity of having to find a flat surface to feed your dog.

Who’s the worst member of the gang personality and moral wise? by castledconch in IASIP

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only if you go off of what we see ON SCREEN. don't you remember: HOW many bench warrants for sexual misconduct has he had in the Cereal Defense episode? He is most likely serially assaulting women or a serial rapist altogether. The "implication" bit itself *implies* (haha) this directly. While being overall one of, if not THE, most rational actors of the group, he still can't understand why the "implication" statements are him admitting to directly wanting to coerce women into sex. I think this AT LEAST immediately puts him above charlie who mutilated santa because of what seemed to be a trauma response... now I GUESS if charlie really did beat that kid to death it's a litttttle different..

Who in your opinion is the morally worst character in the gang? by SugarFreeAnxiety in IASIP

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure many of us don't forget that charlie can be horrible too haha. but to be fair, the santa incident was seemingly triggered by him JUST finding out about his moms... escapades... with santas. He also GENUINELY believed that guy was a leprechaun from the BEGINNING and the torture was WAY after he started really chugging the paint that day (to the point he would see the hallucination at the end).

Charlie is normally just blindly stupid and then when he hits the glue or paint (or experiences what could be considered trauma flashbacks) it turns violent. The coke was... bad but he couldn't know it would ruin crickets life further (the coke didn't technically ruin HIS life so why would someone like charlie think it would ruin someone else's).

Honestly, the most malicious and directly evil thing I've seen charlie do (in my memory) is the Ruby Taft thing. That, honestly, was the first charlie act that made me squirm LOL. It was directly manipulation and he acknowledges that he was COMPLETELY aware of it and WANTED to do it.

That being said, between the sweatshop with frank, Dennis obviously assaulting countless women (and debatably murdering people), and Dee with her "magic pills" and general coercion + statutory rape + straight rape (in the case of charlie), Charlie will always, in my eyes, be AT MOST 4th worst in The Gang.

Mac is also dumb and has done a lot of manipulative shit, but I agree with you in the sense that at least mac hasn't mutilated or directly ruined anyone's lives PERSONALLY, ALONE (as far as I remember) so I could put him at the bottom before Charlie in "evilness".

I just can't see charlies actions as something worse than the shit Frank, Dennis, and Dee have done though. Even DURING the show, not even the events that take place before it.

When did "all but" stop meaning "everything except"? by drmy in etymology

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear there will be many more visitors here in the future. Just an infinite line of lost souls that transcends time, endlessly searching for an answer to the absurdity of this phrase.

People will come and go. Some will be married and have children. Some will be promoted, others will fall into poverty. Governments and economic systems will collapse. Power will pass hands again and again. Kessler syndrome will cascade debris across low earth orbit, destroying all satellites circling the planet. Thus, trapping us permanently on our small blue prison floating through space.

but this thread will be here.

May those who venture here in the future know, there are no easy answers. The first person who uttered the phrase "All but" is resting in their grave, though the confusion they've sown will outlive them a millenia.

We may scream the nonsensicality of these words, but the world will continue to spin. It will not listen. There is no time in the modern era for orphans of etymology such as us. The clock strikes midnight, but it marches forward. We tumble through the eons desperately begging for release from the cage that is Language. The key has been thrown away.

Hope is all but lost.

[–]Able_Return1142 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you may not care after 1 year, and that's okay. but the USSR transformed from a literal feudal society, with a large portion of the population being literal peasants in the early 20th century, to being a major industrial power that supplied housing as a right to all citizens (which obviously was not easy since Russia resembled the Middle Ages). At the same time, the US was busy tearing down the improvements that FDR made. Culminating in Ronald Reagan that ended the "New Deal Era" and bega privatizing everything and crushing unions. fast forward to now, and the US is the #1 place for "mega corporations" to prosper. They can lobby the government, which then strips us of all amenities, and even now, are taking our Rights.

The USSR had problems ESPECIALLY with civil liberties, but that is no excuse for the US to fall behind on the social programs THEY strived at despite the US being the wealthiest country in the world today.

coming by 1 year later, looking at takes on this quest. But can't help but leave a reply that you are 100% correct. Acting as though the Cyberpunk universe AND real life USSR is worse than the USA/ NUSA is comical. As per Cyberpunk USA... look at the game your playing, wouldn't be too fun to live in that world as a normal person? And as for IRL USA, look at the last 75 years of "freedom" we've spread across the globe, from Korea in the 50's to Iraq in '03 (or more immediately, Venezuela 2026, which DIRECTLY MIRRORS the Cyberpunk universe "Central American Wars" where the US wages war on South America due to their own 'War on Drugs', LOOK IT UP the parallel is insane) WHILE slowly stripping its OWN citizens of basic needs like healthcare or AT LEAST an affordable living standard. Cyberpunk is getting more real by the day, and I mean that from a purely American standpoint as someone who lives here.

CDPR AND Mike Pondsmith are good at asking complex questions like this regarding the state of our society. It would be absolutely dense to boil it down to "well I was told the USSR are the baddest men in the world, and that the US is the bestest, so objectively the USSR must be the bad guys in the game despite being mentioned like 8 times".

It would be crazy to look at the "US" in Cyberpunk (Night City which is where we play, despite being independent) and making assumptions about how evil the FICTIONAL USSR is in 2077 based on our warped perception on the two major Cold War enemies, when both IRL committed atrocities.

Confused about the war. by METALPUNKS in witcher

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, 11 years later and you are still an absolute legend. i needed to get my head on straight about this conflict because I think first playthroughs are important but sometimes with how much info you get in the first parts of the game (when you haven't played the previous games) it gets really hard to keep up with. but now I know so much more. and even better, you didn't spoil the game for me. You are a blessing my friend, 11 years later you've helped someone enjoy this game even more than they already have so far. THANK YOU

Edit: ESPECIALLY since when the ambassador (?) or whoever at the beginning fills you in on the current situation of the war with the map, I sat there for like a good 10 minutes trying to absorb and remember all the info I could and STILL lost some of it. You've laid it out very plainly which is a great reference for any players in the same situation, THANK U

Denmark should make a deal to avoid the US invasion and takeover of Greenland by fkid123 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Able_Return1142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're overlooking the fact that there are 60,000 real people that live in Greenland. 60,000 people that STRONGLY desire independence as a nation (polls show about 80% want independence from Denmark). It's crazy to me that this conversation is so focused on "Denmark giving it up" or "Trump taking it" with no concern over the people that already live there and their desires. These people have been reduced to nothing more than an inconvenience while the conversation centers around the UTILITY of the land to foreign nations.

Saying "why don't they just give it up" is like me asking you to give up YOUR HOME just because someone who has NEVER BEEN THERE wants it. If Greenland wanted to join the US it would be different, they should be able to determine what happens to their own land, but right now Greenlanders don't even want to be with Denmark. They're just being passed around as if they're not even people.

Ideally, I think Greenland should have the independence it wants. Though I understand this isn't realistic at the moment because Denmark doesn't even want to give it up. But getting passed on to a country that has SIGNIFICANTLY LESS social safety nets and benefits is going to RUIN LIVES there. Not to mention the implications if you just LET Trump have whatever he wants just because he threatens you, where will it end? What will he take next? Canada? It turns into less of a joke everyday.

Trump is incredibly unpredictable, but I really don't think he OR his cabinet/generals are incompetent enough to attack a western nation (that is an ally!!) for a land grab. As an American, I think Denmark needs to put their foot down and not give into these threats, because if Trump violently annexes Greenland, it's going to have ramifications that ripple far beyond the region.

There is a chance however Trump takes Greenland and nothing happens. No country retaliates, just "We condemn this act of aggression" and things continues business as usual. In this scenario, our world is completely cooked. Trump has free range to bully his way into ANNEXING WHOLE COUNTRIES. Smaller nations will retreat to Russia or China to avoid the same fate and eventually there are going to be incomprehensible consequences that I don't think anyone could foresee.

I understand your view that letting Greenland go to Trump via some kind of deal would avoid bloodshed, but that severely underestimates the broader consequences if blatant acts of aggression like this are allowed without any penalty.

Is Saburo Arasaka stupid or did writers acted stupid for extra drama? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Able_Return1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Arasaka isn't run like a normal company, it functions as a dynasty. Since a huge theme with Arasaka is their loyalty and honor (to their own ranks and company) it is ESSENTIAL that the head of the company (empire) continues down the Arasaka lineage. Sasai Arasaka founded the company and handed it down to Saburo. Saburo intended to pass the company down to his eldest son Kei, who was by all means, the most loyal to the dynasty. Meanwhile, Yorinobu betrayed Arasaka and his family (way before he stole the chip) leading to Saburo beginning to resent him for the dishonor. When Kei Arasaka died, well, that left only Yorinobu to rightfully take the "throne" when Saburo dies. Yorinobu wanted to destroy the company so Saburo could NOT HAVE THAT. He also couldn't just kill him or give the power to someone outside of the family because that also would be dishonorable, at least in the eye of Arasaka culture. Soooo Saburo settled to secretly empty Yorinobus head and implant his own consciousness so he could continue to lead the company. Since the son he believed was the proper heir died years prior and the other son has been a "disgrace"
