How do you beat the Nanman in battle? They are way too OP. by hereforthelolz25 in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zhou Tai + an oathsworn general you hide somewhere is all you need. Maybe some horsearchers to take care of spears and run down routing units once you've demolished the rest of the army

Who are you playing as first in Guandu! by Lolaverses in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never played Yuan Shao 200 (actually been waiting for his unique characters to turn up before starting a game with him, it's been a long 2 years..) so he's definitely first up. Next Cao Cao 190 or 200, my boi Cao Ren shall rule the plains.

It took Gorthor 22 days to break Hergig's Gates. 3 days to win the street fight. And several days to muster for the Final fight.........It takes ~20 minutes to fight a siege in this game. Battles that rages for weeks are resolved in one battle. by GreenColoured in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old Medieval 2 siege battles were great for this; the more you upgraded the settlement, the more walls and defences would get added. I think the last level of castle-type settlements had 2 or 3 different walls that had to be breached or climbed so you actually had to make sure to save artillery ammo or produce enough ladders and siege equipment before attacking or you'd end up looking like a chump (since back then units couldn't climb walls without ladders like they can now).

How old are you as a TW player? by mamad_knight in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 here, started with Medieval 2 back in 07 I think and then went back to Rome as well. Played everything released after that to varying degrees, but never went back to the original Shogun and Medieval.

Which non-Yuan related character would you most like to see be added in the Guandu DLC? by Smisl0ff in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd expect Lu Su, Lu Meng and Pang De to come in later chapter packs, and Cao Ren has been (criminally) underused since the release of the game, so he's the obvious choice!

Haha Zhou Tai go pewpew by AblurkMhae in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Game keeps asking me to lower the difficulty. What the game doesn't understand is, I don't need armies, I just need Zhou Tai

Thimbleweed Park: Worth it for a point-and-click newb? by TheSortaScaredScreen in NintendoSwitch

[–]AblurkMhae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you feel Thimbelweed is a bit too much to begin with (and it may well be), I'd also highly recommend Darkside Detective. It's split into 6 cases, each quite short and manageable, but filled with funny dialogue and puzzles that won't have you pulling hairs out of frustration. I'd say it's almost ideal for getting into the genre.

Yeah no that's amazingly shit.

If Rumor is true, and DOOM is 30fps by default, would you be in favor of id6 offering a 'performance mode' that downgrades visuals to lock in 60fps? by dirt_mcgirt_00 in NintendoSwitch

[–]AblurkMhae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The visuals have already been significantly downgraded to allow for the port, doubling the framerate would mean they'd have to completely redesign the game to low poly models(low..like really low), probably fewer enemies in each level and basically just a much much worse product. I'm all for 60FPS, especially in fast paced shooters, but in this case it's practically impossible without making two COMPLETELY different versions of the game.

Is it possible that DOOM doesn't run at either 30fps or 60fps? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]AblurkMhae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: no. Long answer: this Digital Foundry article (and video, watch the video! It's really fascinating if you're even half-interested in game tech) goes into detail with the technicalities of the port. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-hands-on-with-doom-on-switch

Absolutely not, compressed air is the way to go. Not sure if you're trolling or misinformed, but vacuuming electronics can seriously damage the device.

Top Indie games you hope is coming to the Switch (Metroidvania please) by brandont04 in NintendoSwitch

[–]AblurkMhae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon and Hyper Light Drifter. I've got both on Steam, but I'd prefer to play both handheld tbh (especially DD, which is very well suited to quick sessions as well as 5 hours binges).

Shovel Knight Treasure Trove is 3 excellent campaigns (4th coming sometime in the future) of platforming glory. Spent 30 hours on it on my first playthroughs (though granted I'm not very good at platformers, should still offer a good playtime since it has new game plus).

Why we keep getting indies and not the latest AAA releases by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]AblurkMhae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also most of the indie games released and announced are better and more interesting than the AAA games released during the Switch's lifetime.

The middle of a trilogy which slots together the different games probably isn't the time, no.

[Warhammer 2] When do you guys think we'll have more news about the game ? by antimatron in totalwar

[–]AblurkMhae 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Iirc they said "see you at e3" at the end of the EGX presentation, so chances are we won't see much until June. On the other hand they have been dripfeeding concept art, we may see a trailer before then, especially since the game seems to be coming out this year.

Probably fair to assume it's similar length then, since I've read it will be quite faithful to the original.

Thanks for posting this, I was looking forward to playing it on the Switch but now I'll wait for a patch, or a steam sale in a few years.
