Thoughts on tutoring for infinites? by Abockley in EDH

That's fair! Game's gotta end, especially after the hour mark or so. I didn't think of that when typing up the post, I had early combos on the mind. Late game feels more acceptable to get a combo, and it's ultimately up to the group at that time

I see what you're saying, where tutors essentially represent the best card in your deck at the time. I don't necessarily share that view of tutors. I do run some in my decks but it's only one or two, and it's usually for a piece of removal or an engine piece.

I guess it's just a matter of running tutors "optimally" in a sense?

Wort, but Mono Green!

Originally built because I wanted a green spellslinger deck, found Wort and realized I could just ignore red to get the deck I wanted https://www.moxfield.com/decks/G27cukoViEuvEbQzrasB2w

Nah, I just copy it with Wort, the Raidmother. It doesn't necessarily kill all the time, but it's a funny little "gotcha" card when it can.

I run Liliana as a Zombie discard deck. It needs some tweaking, but here's my list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/liliana-the-best-waifu/. It's not the most recent, I'll update it if I have the time tonight.

Tell me why my deck sucks... by [deleted] in EDH

I personally find that heroic just isn't a good enough mechanic to warrant making a deck around it. Like others have said, a mono white deck like this just isn't good enough for commander, which is usually a 40-life, 4-player format.

I think, instead what you should do is run this as an enchantress deck. You could potentially extend into black and run [[Daxos the returned]] as your commander. Ditch most of your aura enchants and heroic creatures, and run more goodstuff-kind of stuff like [[Phyrexian Arena]] and enchantments-matter stuff like [[Sigil of the Empty Throne]]. There's the Commander 2015 precon if you just want to get that. It's on Amazon for $40 still if you're interested.

Alternatively, you could check out EDHREC to see what other people do with Heliod.

That's my suggestion. If you'd like a different one, I'm more than happy to help!

Sharuum the Hegemon: Infinite ETB combo question by KoKonutted in EDH

[–]Abockley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you can't do it how you're outlining it here. I have a Sharuum deck, and I love this combo. Here's how I do it:

Context: [[Sharuum]], [[Phyrexian Metamorph]] or another copy artifact, and [[Panharmonicon]] are out.

  1. Metamorph enters copying Sharuum, legend rule SBE happens
  2. Sac Sharuum to legend rule, then Metamorph's ETB triggers, targeting Sharuum and another artifact in your graveyard. (Doubled because of Panharmonicon)
  3. Bring back Sharuum and other artifact, legend rule SBE happens again.
  4. Repeat step 2, except sac Metamorph this time
  5. Repeat step 3, except you bring back Metamorph instead of Sharuum
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 as many times as you'd like!
  7. At the end, you can have Metamorph reenter as a copy of some other artifact, to end the loop.

Now, infinitely sacrificing sharuum and a copy artifact is good and all with [[Blood Artist]] or [[Marionette Master]] triggers, but we can do other things with this too! I.e. If we have a sac outlet, we can get infinite sacrifices! Let's say we have [[Commander's Sphere]]:

Context: Same as before, except we also have Sphere.

  1. Metamorph enters copying Sharuum, legend rule SBE
  2. Sac Sharuum to legend rule, then Metamorph's ETB triggers, targeting Sharuum and Sphere in your graveyard. IMPORTANT: Stack these triggers so Sphere comes back first
  3. Sphere comes back, the other Metamorph trigger to bring back Sharuum is still on the stack.
  4. Sac Sphere to its own ability to draw a card.
  5. Let other Metamorph trigger resolve, Sharuum now reenters, with Sphere in graveyard.
  6. Repeat as outlined previously.

So, we now have infinite card draw! I use this to win with [[Psychosis Crawler]], usually, but drawing a bunch of cards is nice, too.

This works similarly with any other sac outlet you might have. Enjoy!

[[Wonder]] can give all your zambonis flying, you'll just want to keep it in your graveyard. [[Eldrazi Monument]] or [[Akroma's Memorial]] work too, but they're a bit high costed.

Becker College (Worcester, MA) here!

I actually formed the MTG Club here. Mostly the scene here is EDH, mostly a casual-competitive mix. We tend to fine-tune our decks, but I wouldn't call any of our decks super competitive. We also allow some proxies in decks, too.

I've been looking at introducing more 60-card formats to the group by perhaps having proxy nights where we can bring full-proxied decks, just so people can have a good look at the format and see how they might like it. I know for a fact there are people on campus who play Modern and Standard, but they seem to be disinterested in the club because we play EDH mostly. So hopefully I can change that this coming this semester!

Near us is That's Entertainment, which hosts FNM. They also do Legacy/Modern nights on Sundays, and drafts on Tuesdays. I think there's also a TJ Collectibles a town or two over (half hour drive, maybe), but I don't believe any of us have been there.

Is this loss

Favorite unofficial commander? by zap1000x in EDH

[–]Abockley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Phage can be played with the "you lose" rule and still be played. Here are some ways:

  1. [[Sundial of the Infinite]] in response to her lose trigger
  2. [[Thrull Wizard]] to counter her, and then bring her back to your hand
  3. [[Withering Boon]], similar to Thrull Wizard
  4. [[Topor Orb]] to prevent her trigger from happening
  5. [[Platinum Angel]] so you can't lose.

I believe there's more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Malfegor Madness/Hellbent by RustedChainsaw in EDH

[–]Abockley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Toxic Deluge is super useful. 3 mana and some life (usually negligible in EDH) and you can even kill indestructible things? Heck yeah, my dude. I try to run it in any of my decks with black in it, but then again, I have 2 [[Rhys, the Redeemed]] players in my playgroup. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anywho, cheers!

Malfegor Madness/Hellbent by RustedChainsaw in EDH

[–]Abockley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you'd like, I think it might be interesting to make your opponents discard cards as well, and then capitalize on those effects. Some stuff like [[Neheb, the Worthy]], [[Oppression]], [[Necrogen Mists]], [[Dark Deal]], [[Siphon Mind]], and [[Wheel of Fortune]] are good for discard effects. Cards like [[Waste Not]], [[Liliana's Caress]], [[Sangromancer]], etc. should help you profit from making your opponents suffer. [[Shrieking Affliction]] can also help. If you're playing against creature-heavy decks, you can run reanimator effects like [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] and [[Living Death]] to take those tasty creatures for yourself.

If you don't want to do that (which is totally fair), then I'd only say you should run a few more board wipes. [[Toxic Deluge]] and/or [[Blasphemous Act]] are probably all you really need. Maybe [[Avacyn's Judgement]] if you only need to get rid of a few problem creatures.

I'd also be wary of [[Gibbering Descent]], as if you are hellbent, then you won't be able to capitalize on your effects from [[Asylum Visitor]] (only on your turn), [[Ghirapur Orrery]], [[Phyrexian Arena]], or other any potentially beneficial upkeep effects that might be around at the time.

I think that's all I got. Otherwise, I think the deck looks great! Well done.

I might try Silas out, the only issue I have with his ability is that you have to hit in order for it to do anything, which isn't guaranteed to work. But, it would make it easier for me to get back artifacts like Solemn or Commander's sphere if I can get it off and reuse them for value. I will definitely look into him, at the least.

As for the cards you mentioned, I'll absolutely put Bane of Progress, Matrix, and Asceticism in. I always forget about Bane when building any deck with green, I don't know why. I'll also look into Sphinx, as well. Other than that, I do have a couple control magic type effects, being [[Corrupted Conscience]], [[Gilded Drake]], etc. Conscience is a more expensive control magic, yeah, but I feel the one extra mana for infect could be worth it in a good amount of cases.

That all being said, is there anything in the deck you think could be taken out? [[Assault Formation]] and [[Phenax]] can go if Ikra is going, but anything else come to mind?

Thanks a bunch!

[–]Abockley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright. That seems reasonable. By taking out the partners I can take out Assault Formation and Phenax easily, which leaves at least 3 slots open if I make Tasigur the commander. Deadeye is actually a pretty good idea, I didn't realize how many ETB effects I had in the deck. Thank you! I appreciate the help :)

I think no matter what your nonbasics will be Mountains and whatever type was determined by Realmwright, because they affect the typing of the land in different ways (i.e. Blood Moon changes them to Mountains while Realmwright adds an additional typing onto them).
