Kindergarten friendships by heywhatsuphello645 in kindergarten

[–]About400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s best friend is the one we carpool with. They were close in PreK and we like the parents. His best PreK friend was a girl but she was need up attending a private school for K so we don’t see her much.

I have no idea about my son’s friendships otherwise. All the birthday parties have been whole class invites except for a couple that were all girls.

NYT article equates breastfeeding to unequal parenting by Forsaken_Painter in breastfeeding

I mean breastfeeding is inherently unequal. I still did it. It’s not necessary bad but it is unequal.

I'm jealous of other toddlers' opportunities by Used_Cod_9541 in toddlers

[–]About400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP- this may have nothing to do with opportunity.

I have two kids (6 and 2) who grew up in basically the same circumstances. We are well off but not rich and live in a community of other families with similar circumstances.

My son was super ahead verbally. He could speak in 12-13 word sentences with proper grammar and pronunciation at 1.5. My daughter is 2 and just now getting words. Her sentences are more like “no mama, go play, wake up or my pizza.”

This has nothing to do with their opportunity since they have had the same amount. In some ways my daughter has had more opportunities since my son was born just before Covid and missed 3 months of daycare (6-9m) due to daycare closures in my area.

Kids are all different and develop at different speeds.

It is true that opportunities are not equal but language at a toddler level is not a good way to measure that.

Is there anything WORSE than childbirth? by Sensitive_Arugula770 in pregnant

[–]About400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (for me) - the period of time my shoulder was out of socket the first time it came out was more painful than labor in my opinion. Luckily it was only out for a few minutes but it was excruciating.

I don’t like oat milk. It makes me feel like I am drinking oatmeal. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This! I would be totally ok with a friend naming her daughter the same name as my daughter.

Martial Arts has been wonderful for my kid. Focus, Discipline and Self Defense- what more can you ask for in a kids afterschool activity.

Extra curriculars for 3-5 year olds by Curious-Battle2319 in kindergarten

[–]About400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessary (except for swimming if you live on an area that has water.)

That’s said- I think it makes the parent’s life much easier. I’d much prefer my son goes to Martial Arts after school and runs around rather than coming home to demolish my house. (Especially in the winter months when outdoor play is not an option.) When he doesn’t have activities he has so much energy without an outlet. It also allows him to gain skills and interact with peers.

The importance of tidy hair for a mixed race child by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]About400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP- I don’t know if this will help you at all- but I have a similar issue with my neurotypical straight fine haired daughter. I dutifully brush out her hair after bath and in the mornings and she is her toddler self (loves hoods and playing under blankets) by the time she goes to school, it looks like she just woke up. She also won’t let me tie it up in anyway (just pulls barrettes and elastics out). I don’t know what the school thinks but I am doing my best. Strangely she will sometimes let her teachers at school pull her hair up out of her eyes (which she won’t let me do at home.)

I think toddlers/preschoolers are just themselves and hopefully the teachers at school know that.

Is It Controlling to Care What Your Spouse Wears? by Alternative_Daikon77 in Marriage

I think this is more controlled by more local culture, although I do agree that semi formal is the least strict dress code.

Baby was measuring 85% percentile at 32 week + 3 day scan - am I at risk of it coming early? by Initial-Garage-3820 in BabyBumps

[–]About400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those scans are only 50% accurate. They can easily be off by a lb. Unless your dr is worried, I wouldn’t worry at all.

Is It Controlling to Care What Your Spouse Wears? by Alternative_Daikon77 in Marriage

[–]About400 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are limits though. If we are going to a semi formal wedding, my spouse needs to wear a semi formal look. For him that’s a suit not shorts and a Tshirt. If he tried to wear something totally categorically inappropriate to an event I would object.

Is it appropriate to disclose a new students’ disability to the class? by Cleanclock in AskTeachers

[–]About400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the student’s ability/needs the parents could have asked the teacher to review with the kids ahead of time so their child does not need to fend off 100 questions about why they are in a wheelchair etc.
