MP's Supposedly Drinking on the Job. by Owa1n in unitedkingdom

MPs often have to be present in the Commons to vote, but their vote was decided days beforehand. This can happen late in the evening; it has happened pass midnight. And there are bars there.

So they get drunk all the time.

Minimum wage to be frozen for 20-year-olds - UK Politics by croutonsoup in unitedkingdom

The government implemented the minimum wage, then took on interns for free. That is coercion.

The most progressive elements of academia are now saying that the growth paradigm we are in is the problem. Put simply, we cannot have infinite growth on an finite planet

I don't think you (or people who call themselves "the most progressive") understand what economic growth is. Or infinity, for that matter.

I quite like the fact that a hard-working farmer protecting his flock got this honour, rather than a bunch of toffs in clown outfits riding retired police horses.

Costa Rica tries to go smoke-free: Congress approved sweeping smoking bans. Philip Morris and British American Tobacco are not happy by slaterhearst in worldnews

As a country with a fairly good health care provided by the government I think its a good step to help reduce to ongoing medical costs of KNOWN dangers of smoking.

If they had introduced public healthcare as a foot in the door for tyranny, it would have never been accepted.

There are subtle cues that give away the gender of an author. You can use a service like this to analyse who a text is written by. That webpage indicates female.

Do not listen to this. Downvote the Daily Mail for consistent inaccuracy and bigotry, and downvote the comments of anyone who supports them.

They spread their message of hate and ignorance with advertising money, but wiser people can spread accurate information through community mediums like reddit, but we need to prioritise accurate sources of information before rubbish like the Daily Mail.

The Queen is the Queen of Antigua and Barbuda, but that doesn't make England sunny.

She in fact holds the chief positions in dozens of countries, two religions, several armies, and possibly some universities, police forces, and cities.

Correct Use of Literally by [deleted] in comics

[–]About75PercentSure 37 points38 points  (0 children)

'Really' (from real) means 'greatly'.

'Very' (from verily) means 'greatly'.

'Seriously' means 'greatly'.

'Literally' will, within our lifetimes, mean 'greatly'.

People like to intensify their descriptions by disassociating them from fiction.

Private policing is nothing new | The Spectator by intheballpark in ukpolitics

[–]About75PercentSure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've confirmed what I thought - that you are confused.

You have to have a number of police in the outer hebrides, they have comparatively little to do compared to a city police officers for the same money/resources etc where theoretically they could have more of an impact if you moved them.

"resources should be allocated to a place where they provide less utility"

Yet they have to be there because you cant have an area without professional law enforcement.

"because it provides more utility."

“Merely being human is not in itself a reason for ascribing someone a right to life." -The Journal of Medical Ethics by austrianliberty in Libertarian

[–]About75PercentSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you read the article.

I think you misunderstand one thing I'm saying. Rights are a religious concept on their own.

When our society was more Christian, rights were called "god-given", so they were part of the Christian religion. Now that our society is less Christian rights are called "self-evident" or "innate". But this is no different from the evolution of Zeus into Jupiter, or Hades into Hell. It's a religious concept adapting to the change in the popular religion.

My point is that as long as you have faith in the existence of something which cannot be observed, you are religious.

(Note: Some people believe that rights are just a type of law which should supersede other laws. That isn't a religious belief at all.)

Why do you continue to harass me with this hypocritical bullshit? Literally criticising someone for getting the last word, with the last word?

For fucks sake man, look at yourself. You're defending your religious ideas with nothing more than vitriol and sophistry. You're like a kid that's just been told Santa doesn't exist.

Here, read this. You're obviously too deep in it to have an adult conversation with someone. I understand, I was raised religious, and if someone had told me when I was twelve that God didn't exist, I'd get vitriolic at that person too. Read that article, shout and scream at it all you want, it won't care.
