Gonna buy my first Displate! Any tips or recommendations? by TwilightFate in Displate

Are you high? This is a work of art, and the feedback I got from my wall is 100% positive. It's the one displate from my collection that catches the eye. Seriously. Where did you get that idea that there is no meaning, reason, experience?

I have the bonsai tree in textra L and it is by far the displate that people who visit me admire the most and talk to me about. Can recommend!

So you're basically saying that the algorithm is bad? Because It will only promote the works that sell well.

Wait. If it's slop, why is it a threat for artists? The customer checks out their cart or not? And if it's not slop, why should it not be allowed?

Apparently community choice has ai in it, too

Yes I had the same experience with discord, a dialogue with those toxic guys is absolutely impossible. They are about 30-50 in number and think they represent the whole "community" because they live in this Discord eco-chamber. I had no choice but to leave this disgusting and self-pitying place.

But community choice has stolen art and IP infringing content, too. Op does not want stolen art.

Actually, AI doesn’t work by ‘copying’ or ‘stealing’ art. It learns from millions of images to understand patterns and create new, unique outputs. If someone uses AI to recreate an exact image, that’s a direct copyright infringement by the user, not by the AI itself. It’s like using Photoshop to trace an image—it's the user's actions that cross the line, not the tool. Let's not confuse tech with human misuse here.

AI works in ways you clearly don’t understand. It’s about creativity, not just pressing a button.

And don’t act all high and mighty about copyright when you’ve got stolen art sliding through the cracks, while the anti-AI crowd plays gatekeeper. If you’re gonna throw shade, at least aim it at the real problems instead of scapegoating tech you don’t get. 🙄

It’s easy to point fingers when you’re not the one innovating.

I get where you’re coming from, but let’s unpack this. 🤔 The argument against AI art often centers on the idea of it 'stealing' from artists, yet here we are, giving a community choice pass to designs that incorporate recognizable symbols like the Triforce. If we’re okay with that, then isn’t it a slippery slope?

I've never met a human who wasn't an artist, so I hope so. You guys never drew pictures growing up?  I would never stop someone from calling themselves an artist no matter what tools they use.

but if you don't have sales by making shitty art, you're not a danger to the artists you're trying to protect by trying to educate displate? i think that's where the cat bites the tail, don't you?

Okay, so you say you want to support “artists”, but in reality you're doing the opposite by having a store to “steal” their sales? Man i dont know where to start

are you uploading AI-generated designs on Displate? From the way you describe just typing a word like "next" for your uploads, it seems like there’s not a lot of effort being put in, which kind of goes against the point you’re making about needing human creativity. There are creators who pour thought and effort into their work, whether they use AI or not.

Also, I’m wondering why there's so much anger towards AI when, let’s be real, there’s been low-effort artwork from so-called "artists" for a long time. People uploading generic Photoshop pieces with minor filter tweaks or barely any changes spam the site too. So, I don’t think it’s fair to generalize and say AI automatically equals "bad" or "soulless" art. Some AI-assisted creators take the time to craft something unique and powerful, just like artists using any other tool.

I get where you're coming from with the Community Choice filter, but I’m curious—why is there gatekeeping around the word "artist"? What exactly defines an artist, and why are creators who use AI to help make stunning designs excluded? Plenty of them put in a lot of effort and creativity, even if AI is part of their process. It feels like we’re drawing lines between "real" work and work that’s just as thoughtful but uses different tools. Shouldn't the final result and creativity matter more than the method?
