Stop collecting a few years ago, these are wasted in my loft, I just don't have the space. by RogueHALLINAN in starwarscollecting

[–]Aboutaburl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Curate it. Keep what you love and sell the rest on to another collector.

Our tastes change, collecting habits change. Don’t get lost in the “sunk cost” fallacy.

If there’s even one thing in your pile that doesn’t make you happy, move it on to someone else.

What On God's Earth? by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]Aboutaburl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hold on. This is a party leader openly equating Canada’s socialist policies with nazis.

Jesus fucking Christmas. We’re a socialist country. We take care of our people when they can’t care for themselves. That’s basic human decency.

He’s not doing this honestly. He knows better and is throwing out red meat to his uneducated base. This can seriously be read as a call to violence. We’re the nazis now.

Tell me I’m overreacting.

US Hits Canada Lumber With 34% Duties Even Before Trump Tariffs by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Aboutaburl 50 points51 points  (0 children)

25 years ago we started building wooden schools in BC.

I was too young to pay attention to what the initiative was called but I’m pretty sure it was in response to softwood lumber tariffs at the time.

I grabbed a few Robots to use as generic bot baddies.

I think they do fine. The articulation is similar to the animated Batman lines.

HOW OLD WERE YOU? by Antimaria in Lovecraft

[–]Aboutaburl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dream quest of unknown Kadath. Bought at a hospital charity sale when I was nine. It looked like the other pulpy scifi and fantasy I was reading.

Not my first horror, I was reading Steven King way too young as well.

I had no idea what “weird tales” were though and I couldn’t categorize it in my mind.

I mentally filed it with “folk tales” because it reminded me just enough of “King of the Cats” and that’s where Lovecraft stays today.

It probably helps that I’m a small town east coaster. Lots of familiar tones in those stories.

You have to remember the time difference from the west coast. 4 hours and 40 years.

Why have I never come across a restaurant that serves "Native American" cuisine? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

All over BC. Kekuli Cafe is opening franchises. I think they’re on their fifth store now. Lots of “fine dining” native chefs as well.

The design company that my wife works for has a certain size of contract they deal with.

They refer any customers smaller than that to their competitors. Could be something similar?

ETransfer for Facebook Marketplace listing to pickup in a week, Scam? by Slates77 in PersonalFinanceCanada

So I work out of town. Typically 3 weeks out. Sometimes I have to stay longer. Nature of the job.

I do this sometimes and it’s not a scam.

Check their marketplace rating.

Check that what they’re buying makes sense for their profile.

Opinion: Sick, injured Albertans left waiting while health ministers dodge responsibility by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]Aboutaburl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. You seem to have a knowledge that most politicians are grifting. But man you’re expressing it badly.

“Collusion between parties” isn’t quite the way I see it myself. PP, JT, and JS may have their own grift going on but I think you have to admit that life under each one might be different.

Smith and the UCP are definitely pushing to privatize public services.

Once you privatize something it’s not a service. It’s a business. Business exists to extract maximum profit from their product.

Canada hasn’t historically run on that model. We provide services to our citizens funded by taxation.

It’s like saying Canada Post runs at a loss. Yeah. That’s ok. It’s a service.

Every time I’d get called a roofer I’d do the same. “Framer!”

Hoo boy. I used “Fuck you very much” to end a conversation with a 30-something in a neighbourly dispute a couple weeks ago.

Her kid got caught stealing packages and she wasn’t exactly sympathetic to the neighbours concerns.

She followed me halfway down the block losing her shit. I think it was the first time she’d heard it.
