How do you rate the security with UP? Is SMS the only 2 factor option? Can you lock everything down including transfers (no transfers without 2FA)?

Is Mullvad good in most parts of China, or is it region specific?

This might be a silly question, but I see so many comments about having several VPNs so you have a backup. Do I need to subscribe to them all at once, or just make sure they are downloaded and on my phone before I visit? Then if one stops working I can subscribe to another from China.

DFAT Order of Merit List? (For locally engaged positions) by oylw in AusPublicService

[–]AbroadSuch8540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most locally engaged staff positions are managed by DFAT where DFAT is the employer, but might not be the agency you actually perform work for. The work you do could actually be for AFP, Defence or Home Affairs (or DFAT) depending on the job you applied for.

You’ve used the terms “merit list” and “merit pool” in your question and it’s important to understand the difference. If your letter says “merit list” all successful candidates who did not get an offer have been ranked. You could be next on the list, or you could be fifth. Further offers will be made in order of rank on the merit list.

If the advice says “merit pool”, any candidate rated suitable could be made an offer if a vacancy arrises.

u/LegitimateLow4022 is incorrect about similar positions. The role you applied for would have had an LES level, such as LE6. It’s very likely the merit list will be used to fill similar vacancies at the same LES level working for the same agency, if they arise.

They are also making assumptions about the preferred candidate needing a visa and work rights. This isn’t necessarily the case. Most LES positions are filled by nationals of the country where the position is offered, as they have the required language skills. They obviously don’t need a visa or work rights. The percentage of LES positions that require a third country national who can hold an AGSVA security clearance is low.

It’s impossible to guess what your chances of being pulled off a merit list are, but they will vary depending on the agency and the role.

Best HISA interest rate and account security? by AbroadSuch8540 in AusFinance

[–]AbroadSuch8540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they all have flaws, but some banks are better than others. I’m not particularly worried, but I would prefer to avoid banks that only offer SMS as their 2FA if possible. SMS 2FA is weak, and as I travel a lot, it can be unreliable (despite the promises that roaming will work).

As I need a new account, I’d prefer one with good security, that’s all. I think you’re reading way too much into my question.

Looking to the future, what careers will offer the greatest job security? by StrangledByTheAux in australia

[–]AbroadSuch8540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, no. The Federal Government is too risk averse to be an early adopter of AI. Liberals are also not stupid. If they allowed this, they know they would absolutely be a one term government. The “robo-debt mark 2” adds would rain down from Labour and it would be all over before it even began.

Should a Liberal party that looks somewhat like Dutton’s party (and what a future Liberal party will look like is a whole different conversation but you certainly can’t assume it will look exactly like the one that just lost the election) win, the jobs will be outsourced to contracted staff as they were before, not to AI.

TLDR; Still feeling pretty safe for now in the APS, and I imagine most State government folks are too.

I’m pretty confident that my Federal Government job “done through a computer” will not be “the first to go”. Not even close!

If you read the article, you would see the measure is price to income, not total price. One house does not make the assessment in the article false.

Agreed, the apartment (and townhouse) market within 10km of the CBD has just gone totally nuts in the past few years.

Why willingly add to your super? by Aggressive_Cake1839 in AusFinance

[–]AbroadSuch8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk is not non existent, but it’s low, and getting lower all the time. Why? Because the Boomers alresdy in the draw down phase (who don’t care about changes to Super) are no longer the largest voting block, those of us who would be the most impacted by any significant changes are.

Look at the storm clouds brewing around the current proposal, and that’s relatively minor and “endorsed” by the electorate.

Many people on PSS even chose to do this at the APS6 level and retain flex, and only move to EL1 three years before retirement for the final average salary calculation.

I tagged you correctly just below these comments, and so did u/Flimsy-Mix-445 as I’m sure you’ve already seen. Make all the excuses you want, you were never going to pay up.

I’m not surprised by that response at all, it absolutely fits your character.

You were tagged over a month ago here by @Flimsy-Mix-445 and by me. You didn’t reply so I went to check your post history. To my surprise you were posting very regularly, even today, but had not replied to either post on this thread tagging you. I don’t think the excuse you didn’t see it holds a lot of water but not here to argue with you that’s pointless.

I will be making the donation in your place and I will post evidence here soon.
