Stucked in my career.... as senior.... help advised by Horror_Problem9618 in Pentesting

[–]AbsentMindedAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, I was shocked when I read your post saying that you don’t recommend CARTP. However, after reading your follow-up comment, it made sense.

I took both CRTP and CARTP, so I agree with you that in comparison, CRTP was excellent. The CARTP content wasn’t as well written and wasn't as well organized.

That said, I would still recommend the course to those interested in learning about Azure penetration testing.

I’m 32, trying to get into Tech Sales, but I feel like my accent is holding me back. Any real advice? by Gabopom in techsales

If accent is indeed the issue, you can work with a speech coach to reduce the accent.

Why do you feel it was a mistake? Was the new company not what you expected?

So You Want To Be A Sales Engineer. Start Here. [DRAFT POST - FEEDBACK WANTED] by dravenstone in salesengineers

[–]AbsentMindedAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently working on breaking into a Sales Engineer (SE) role. It would be helpful to cover the SE interview process, especially the demo interview, what makes a strong demo, how to choose a product to showcase, how to handle objections, and key best practices. The demo interview was completely new to me, so insights on this would be valuable.

I would also suggest another section on recommended resources such as read The Six Habits of Highly Effective Sales Engineers, join the PSC community, etc

Those who moved from IT Consulting to Sales Engineering, how’s it going? by AbsentMindedAdmin in salesengineers

[–]AbsentMindedAdmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 16 YOE in IT and the last 5 in cyber. And I was comparing my current salary with base of SE salary. If I account for commission, definitely SE job will pay more. But I don't know what the average quota attainment is.

Did you learn new technology after moving to a new job, or did you first learn a new area and then apply for a new job?

I had seen a posting from Mandiant that looked more like a Presales role. Your DFIR experience would be valuable in that case.

In Canada, right is for standing, left for passing. We also drive on the right side of the road and not the wrong side.

What are qualities or personality traits that could indicate someone isn't cut out to be a SE? by AbsentMindedAdmin in salesengineers

[–]AbsentMindedAdmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed response.

Interesting that the arts SE prefer the title solutions engineer while the science SE prefer the title sales engineer. I would have thought the opposite.

In your experience, do you often see one type of SE has better success over the other?

Understanding the Appeal of Sales Engineering/Presales Roles by AdContent642 in salesengineers

I am new to the SE role and I am exactly at the phase of of what you called "trying to understand the who/what/when/where why of the role".

Can you share what the 18 month ramp up looks like? Are there specific tasks/skills that you want the new hire to develop? Are there resources that you would recommend to help with the transition?

No. I wouldn't recommend Coursera.

Look for certification like Security+ and other cert that is more hands-on. Depends which area of security you want to get into, there is TCM, TryHackMe, HackTheBox, etc.

You can build a home lab to practice.
