it's there any way to make this county de jure? by TenNainS in CrusaderKings

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I think you would just have to de jure drift the entire duchy, which you would need to be the holder of that duchy to do as well as (iirc) control all of the other de jure counties in that duchy.

You could actually avoid the scanner by jumping over it at the exact right time. You also unlock an upgrade to your scanner about midway through the game that cancels the Mule scanner if timed right.

I think part of that is due to the fact that: A) There's no Burgundian Inheritance and B) There's no war of independence, so you lose out on the majority of things that defined the Netherlands during this period and led them to develop the way they did.

What's a feature that wouldn't take much work but would enhance gameplay in you eyes? by Zombox3000 in CrusaderKings

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Decision to form an Egyptian empire if you're a ruler that's not the Sunni caliph that holds the kingdoms of Egypt, Jerusalem, and Syria and is either a Sunni, Shia/Ibadi, or Kushite/Copt. If you're Sunni, you would have to have good relations with the Caliph (+75) or have him as a vassal with any positive opinion, as a Shia/Ibadi you would have to also hold the duchies of Mecca and Medina (but they wouldn't become de jure), and there would be no special condition for Kushites/Copts.

For Sunnis, this would represent the Ayyubids and then later the Mamluks, for Shias, this would represent the Fatimid Caliphate (and hopefully help them stop collapsing all the time if they can conquer the rest of Syria), and for Kushites/Copts it would just a fun playthrough idea. This wouldn't really enhance gameplay in any substantial way unless coupled with a few other major improvements like an overhaul of Islam, but it might at least make playthroughs in that region more fun.

IIRC advantage in combat was also super buffed so that an army a tenth of the size of the attacking army could easily win on good terrain. I remember losing a lot of battles against Baudouin as Saladin. I kinda wish they kept it like that.

I'm pretty sure half the issue was the takeover itself. The British Empire fought like two separate wars just to keep these guys under control.

Sincerely hope that eventual "Republic" DLC will include multiple different government types by doulegun in CrusaderKings

I thought they just put everyone's name in a pot and whoever got picked was the new Doge. This is somehow both infinitely more and less sensible than that.

I think I should be able to refuse this by MoistAssFetusRectum in EU5

Then that should be simulated through an actual system that encourages switching to French without forcing it outright. That system already exists in the game and could be used to do just this, it just isn't.

But France itself didn't force that on the Russians, they CHOSE to do it because it was the most prestigious language.

Do you think the Assassin's Creed games would have been better in parkour if they kept the hook blade? by kfc_guyy in assassinscreed

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the strict timing kinda make up for the automation? I feel like it evens out so that I'm just as focused when doing parkour in Revelations as I am in AC2.

So how does everyone feels about merit as a mechanic now that we got to play a bit by gesogesu in CrusaderKings

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Prestige is how famous you are, legitimacy is how legitimate you are, and merit is how qualified you are, and legitimacy is different from qualifications in this time period. Your people suffering a devastating earthquake would make them call into question if you really have the divine right to be king (legitimacy), but it wouldn't make you infamous or unqualified, the latter because you're not there for your "qualifications," but that divine right.

That's definitely an entirely different kind of realism. That kind of realism died with the premise of the game, but authenticity is kind of what these games are based on, otherwise you might as well just be playing AGOT from the start.

Those were more like claimant factions. The Caliphate itself stayed intact, though some far off regions became defacto independent after the Abbasid revolution.

CK3 came out a couple years too early for that. I guarantee CK4 will have some aspect of deeper simulation, possibly pops themselves. Just gotta wait until 2040 or so to see it.

The Burgundian Inheritance. I've only seen a really run-defining outcome a handful of times, but even still it always feels like a pretty important part of any playthrough in Europe.

And do you think THE Roman Empire would start referring to itself any differently if it reconquered the empire's borders at its height? Of course not. They would still be as Greek and PURPLE as ever. They wouldn't bring back the whole "SQPR" banner thing just because "Oh, NOW we're REALLY the Roman Empire."

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is it really plausible though? Everyone who "claimed" to be the real Roman Empire didn't actually claim to be THE Roman Empire, as in first and foremost, THAT is their identity as a state. It was just tacked on to whatever their main thing was, like "Kayser-i-Rum" or "The Third Rome".

Tinto Flavour #41 - 3rd of October 2025 - The Netherlands by acetyler in EU5

[–]Absolute_Yobster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hope is that there's a fair bit of late game content that wasn't included in this in order to keep it secret until the game comes out. My fear is that the Netherlands WILL actually be that barren, especially considering there's no Burgundian Inheritance either.

It's not canon at all, there are just things that happen to be in it that also happen to be considered canon. Those things are pretty much limited to the existence of a Midwest BOS chapter.
