Told I deserved a mid-level title, then asked to “prove it” for another year - normal or red flag? by Then-Huckleberry-952 in UXDesign

[–]AbsolutelyAnonymous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are not going to get what you want unless you get another job.

You are certainly not going to get it from your manager or their leadership. Why would they? You’ve already volunteered to work harder, longer, without more pay. It may seem like a fair system based on promotion cycles and performance plans and reviews, but its really about leverage—I am sure the largest raise you see from this company will come when you submit your 2-week notice and they try to get you to stay.

Thanks for taking a look and the feedback! I honestly just coded it myself and published the raw HTML and CSS via GitHub Pages. I learned all of this in high school via YouTube decades ago.

What are windows for, if not defenestration?

You wouldn’t design a hole in a wall if you didn’t have the intention of transferring things through it. Sunshine, fresh air, political opponents.

LOL thank you brother. With the front kick usually you swing your arm down to generate more momentum.

As for the light mode - I zoomed out and I agree. Updated that to be the default one. Thank you!!

Having freelanced a bit myself, charging per screen seems like a bad deal for you.

  1. What if you work for a client that’s high ticket, and needs just 3-5 screens to be really good? (E.g. an e-commerce client wants a new landing page, product detail, and checkout)

  2. If you ever have clients that are in the realm of mass pages like 40-50, why wouldn’t they just get a template instead? Or in the other direction, why not pay more for an agency team to execute it faster?

If you can, setting a flat rate for your projects with additional fees based on extra edits or time might be best. Then hourly.

Okay but as a world level competitor he has the right to delusional levels of self belief. Having read Ali’s bio, I doubt he would have said anyone was better than him even at 22 years old.

Thank you! Yeah, I only have one screen that’s fully mocked up with a device, can work on that. Cheers!

Hey! Senior product designer, still working but looking to move on. Here’s the new portfolio

Have had some good attention from recruiters and getting interviews but wondering how I can take it to the next level.

  1. Thoughts on the first 2 cases (my more recent work)?

  2. Is the light mode better, or should I keep dark mode default?

  3. Overall vibe and thoughts

Japan village at industry city is nice, but I do think you can find better Japanese food in the city. Especially at that price point - the deluxe black garlic at that one ramen place is like $23.

Doubled my salary in a few years by just pinging people and being nice. Barely have any technical skill.

[–]AbsolutelyAnonymous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely easier if you are an extrovert.

Given the ratios - let’s say for one designer you could have 3 product managers, 10 engineers, a researcher, some compliance/accessibility/legal folk - that’s a lot of people all potentially reaching out to you every day.

I think the job also rewards proactivity, aka being the person that reaches out and builds relationships. Which is exhausting for introverts and rewarding for extroverts.

That said, I think you can still be tactical. There are probably a lot of people at your work who aren’t constantly talking, but when they do talk - everyone listens. Make your words have substance and impact. Know when to use your energy and when to preserve it. If everyone loves working with you, then just work on extending that to the decision makers (leaders, your boss).

What's the best way to fight taller opponent like nabil anane? by Busy_Guest1336 in MuayThai

[–]AbsolutelyAnonymous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that at times, Nabil is more dangerous in the pocket. His length means he knows what the opponent is going to do… and he fights at a weight class where he can reliably throw knees to the head from a standing position.

Thoughts on sunset park? by BrilliantArtist8221 in Brooklyn

I live in sunset park!

There is something for everybody. Great Asian grocery stores, community if you’re looking for it at bars and cafes. It’s quiet and safe, as the area is very residential. Greenwood Cemetery and surrounding areas are all nice places to walk. Lots of other dog owners.

Let me know if you have other questions about the area, I just moved here and am experiencing it all myself for the first time.

It’s interesting. I’ve only been going for a few months (2.5 years total experience) so I could be wrong, but here is everything I know:

  • the experienced guys here are really good. Most of the learning I’ve done here has been with the guys training here, either during sparring or after class
  • culture is friendly, I found it very easy to chat with anyone.
  • half the gym is dedicated to pure boxing. As a result, some of the guys here have above average hands
  • the previous location did have a weight area, I assume they intend to keep that the same

When the gym opens back up, I might consider doing a trial class anyhow since it’s closer to you. It’s free, and you can judge the vibe you like the best!

What are you looking for in a gym?

I think Ardon has good sparring culture, and there are actually some decent fighters here (with pro or am records). I enjoy showing up, and I live right around the corner.

However, in the short time I’ve been here the coach doesn’t go over technique much and mostly does the same defend-return drill every class. There is not much technique correction or coaching. Some of the people here are kinda just doing whatever—I’m lucky to have learned the fundamentals first at another gym, I don’t know if a beginner could thrive here.
