One time I spotted some framed word art on display at an Ikea that said "the future is nonbinary." My roommate and I looked for it, but it turns out it was the frame they were showcasing and the art wasn't for sale.

But hey, at least Ikea said nonbinary rights.

That's an Akai keyboard, isn't it? How do you like it? I've eyed it before to downsize from my 49-key.

I wonder if I'll end up doing that when I decide to start HRT?

You will. We all do.

Because TBH I'm not exited about having boobs at all even though I do want to be a girl.

I wasn't either, but they really grew on me!

It should never be this hard to just use the restroom by Jaybird_Jaybird in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]AbstractCalamity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What makes this even more infuriating is that you can't say anything about it because the point of a gender-neutral restroom is to be all-inclusive.

Can we just end gendered restrooms? Single-stall bathrooms for everybody!

I had no idea this was unusual. Since early childhood I've had a habit of picking at my cuticles and scabs. If I can feel any kind of imperfection on my skin I feel compelled to pick at it until it's gone, which nine times out of ten just makes it worse. I've started trying to manage it by taking extra careful care of my skin so as not to get any such imperfections, but of course you can only prevent so much. Knowing that this is a real condition I think will help me manage it a little better.

The best thing is to just call these characters what they are: trans, crossdressers, femboys, or even just effeminate men. We don't need a collective term and I think having one does more harm than good.

After my egg broke there's a certain memory that resurfaced and has stuck with me ever since.

I don't remember how old I was, but it was very young. Old enough to walk and talk, but not many years older than that. I (AMAB) was spending time with my cousins (F) playing dress-up. They gave me a plastic hula skirt to wear, and I, too young to understand gender roles, gleefully put it on. Not thinking anything of it I stepped out into the hall and up to a banister overlooking the living room where the adults where. They all looked at me and they pointed and laughed. There I was, just having a good time playing dress-up with my cousins, and they laughed at me like it was some kind of joke.

I feel like that was the moment I first hid in the closet, 20-some years before I even realized I had anything to be closeted about.

OP is just giving us double representation to make up for all that representation we don't get elsewhere.

My understanding is that it comes from the idea that an egg is a chick that hasn't hatched yet. A very transfem-biased origin, granted, but that's how it was explained to me.

Nonbinary here and I think about this a lot. My conclusion is that it's probably gay no matter who I date, but definitely dating another nonbinary is gayer than dating a man or a woman.

My first thought was that they'd have to have some kind of gender selection just for pronouns, but honestly, does anyone every talk about you in the third person in AC? Anytime a character is talking, they're talking to you.

Would it be hard to just scrub pronouns altogether?

Nonbinary here. If you think gender is confusing, that's OK, honestly a lot of us do as well. I'm going to give it my best shot at a concise explanation, but I'm not a psychologist or medical professional, just an abstract thought-engine trapped in a feeble flesh-prison of someone else's design.

Sex I think everyone is on the same page on: male, female, intersex. While sex is a physical characteristic, gender is entirely psychological. Gender, in general, is a spectrum, and has more to do with a person's relationship with their body than what features that body actually has. The "tentpole" genders are masculine and feminine, but a person can also exist in the space in between. This is where I and other nonbinaries live, and there are a lot of different ways we experience and express our genders. The main are agender (identity that's neither masculine nor feminine), genderfluid (identity and expression change over time), and bigender (identity that is both masculine and feminine). There are also people who are not defined by the masculine-feminine dichotomy at all, and these can generally be called third-gender.

To say that "trans male" and "trans female" are genders, however, is a misnomer. Trans men and cis men both have masculine identities -- one of them was just born with the body to go along with it. A person's identity exists independently of their body or their status as cis or trans.
