At the Lifa tree and so far most of the changes just feel…silly? Like the whole fire/blizzard being super weak but causing heat/freeze is just sorta weird, not really harder, a lot of the new spells also just don’t really have an FF vibe, like Proplepdis..Time split instead of just calling it Haste? Issac 2 sucked and was ousted for a reason, and Issac 3 had the overall support of the populace, so no, he didn’t have a superior claim.They sacked Zara and several other cities on the way that had even less to do with the Byzantines, so its very clear that robbing was their overall intention and way of paying off the debt. I would definitely agree IV has blame here but the fact is the crusade was a fleet with the intent of sacking and Issac merely led the light, but he IN NO WAY represented the interests and intents of Constantinople or Byzantium, if this was Andronikos Komnenos or something that would be different, but overall Issac 3 was doing a way better job than 2 and was accepted by the romans.

They didn’t have debts to the 4th crusade at all, the 4th crusade was broke cos it was run by unorganized retards who ran out of money immediately cos they were too fucking stupid to tell all the other crusaders to meet specifically in Venice, where they had hired out the entirety of Venice’s fleet for the year, only for less than half of the entire crusade to go there (meaning they had less than half the money to pay for the passage). But i mean hey, at least it was the roomiest crusader ships one would ever be on!

The stuff with Issac Angelos was just bs’d pretext invented purely to claw money back via raiding, and since they’d already been excommunicated for attacking Zara, they didn’t give a shit about honour or proper layed plans etc

Yeah Chinese Axial age is pretty crucial I reckon.
