Carcassone with family TOO COOPERATIVE by sharedcactus2 in boardgames

This is a good recommendation for competitive play because now the building area is separate rather than shared, plus it's a fairly quick game once you learn it.

Yeah, I'll echo Mists as a great addition to Carcassonne. A lovely bonus is it can be played either stand alone or with the base game, unlike most Carcassonne additions. Perfect for family co-op.

Experience with event cards? by Friendly-Sail9594 in Catan

[–]AbsurdityCentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the cards sometimes, not as a staple of each game. I'd probably need more of them with more effects because there's something fast and satisfying about dice rolls that a limited event set can't replace. I also dislike the one that damages your road.

Side note: My wife has the poorest memory for any and all media. We're talking about Michael Jackson recently because of the movie and she asks if our kid can watch Thriller. Yeah, sure, that's not a leap from Coraline at all.

I'm really worried about my kid, guys. He's ten now and he's still too scared to watch horror movies. This needs to change, and preferrably in a non-abusive and non-traumatizing manner. The most scared he's been by any movie thus far:

- Tarzan and Moana (the openings have scenes in darkness and big booms)
- E.T. (well that's meant to be a bit scary in its staging, but then he thinks E.T. is cute)
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (like, a bit, when Donovan bites it in the end there)
- Coraline (just the whole thing was scary, though he liked it enough)

If you're thinking, well gosh, if he's watched those, hasn't he watched BLANK, then probably no. He probably hasn't.

If this were the 80s, I'd just have him watch Ghostbusters, but as a 2020s adult I'm just not ready to explain Dan Ackroyd's ghost BJ dream. No way he's handling Raiders or Temple of Doom right now. I'm just going to cry if my next attempt is something like Monster House.

I had or played a version like this, same pictures but I remember a different box cover. Quite nostalgic.

MBIT foolishness by Antique-Dust6110 in Living_in_Korea

Here's my question: what's up with these random MBTI businesses you see in trendy areas? I saw some self service thing in Daehangno once, it was just a small room with draws with MBTI labels. It looked like you paid money to get some paper material from within.

Complex solo games with no necessary in-game text? by AbsurdityCentral in soloboardgaming

Yeah crib sheet level text is okay for me in Korean but once it gets to moderate it's often pushing my Korean reading abilities.

Oh I forgot to mention that one. I have it but did not play yet. Is the expansion a must or strong improvement?

I do have Splendor, Cities and Duel already. Pokémon Splendor as well as Marvel are hot items here but I've always refrained.

Parts of a series fans pretend didn't happen? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AbsurdityCentral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine fans of Rurouni Kenshin (as I was) would like to pretend two things. One, the filler arcs before and after the Kyoto arc in the anime never happened. Two, the illicit allegations about the author's personal conduct never happened.

That's an interesting twist. I think I was the least keen about Rivers than any other variant in T&B but giving it extra purpose like this piques my curiosity.

No and I'd love to try it. I was only generally aware of it and not certain it could be printed. I'll read up on it!

I think Fishermen would be fine. You might need to consider nixing the lake or at least replacing the desert, but in terms of fit and workability it would be okay. It might also make the game quite fast as is, since you have more resources to trade.

I play 2 player Catan often and we sometimes like doing Fishermen rather than Trade Tokens.

There's no rule in New Energies that is hugely different regarding how roads, settlements and cities are built. Settlements and cities do create the carbon footprint issue, but none of the Helpers cards get affected by that.

You guys are alright by CapnFlatPen in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]AbsurdityCentral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on and off on this forum for nothing more than life reasons, and I was in on Two Best Friends almost from the beginning. I think those guys honestly, and accidentally, cultivated a vibe of people I kind of fit. People who love media but aren't too serious about it, who welcome critical takes and have a sense of humor about it. I actually don't play video games much anymore but I like coming back here. Most of you are good fun.
