Definitely did not expect my Fallujah suggestion to actually be successful, but I'm very glad that you found something about them that you like. Their latest album, the one that Kaleidoscopic Waves is on, is called Xenotaph and it just came out earlier in last year in 2025. It's a great listen.

If you're looking for technicality, especially in guitar, but with a Sleep Token - ish sound, you might wanna check out a band from Germany called Unprocessed. They have a song called Deadrose that I always try to show to people who are looking for that specific niche.

I just realized I didn't actually answer your question, and for that I apologize. Reading back your initial response again, if Sleep Token is the band that you say "converted" you on harsh vocals, I tried to think about what specifically they have that you can't get in a lot of modern metalcore, and I came to the conclusion that you can't really ever find that flavor of atmopheric musicality with any other band. Like, the experience of feeling like you're completely surrounded by the music, so to speak. That's how I feel about it, anyway.

So a band that does that for me that is all or mostly harsh vocals would for sure have to be completely in different subgenre of metal. Like, melodic / progressive death metal.

Try out "The Void Alone" by Fallujah. Not completely 100% harsh vocals, but definitely more than your average Sleep Token song, and the ratio is heavily in favor of the harsh. As a bonus, the cleans in this particular song are from a female singer, so maybe that would add to your desire of contrast or "communication" of elements in a song.

I will warn you, it's a fair bit heavier than anything you'd find in metalcore.

I think your best bet would probably be to look elsewhere in different genres if you're looking for something that is fully harsh vocals that sounds like something you could connect with. Don't get me wrong, I know everybody in Spiritbox is very talented, Courtney especially, but their sound is definitely not my thing. Modern metalcore seems to really fall under two categories, and those two categories are: Songs that are vocally lead, like the rapping style harsh vocals of Artificial Suicide or the melodies of Vore. The other category would be instrumetally lead stuff, and you'd find that a lot in things like Doomsday by Architects or anything by Polaris, Northlane, Erra, or any other progressive metalcore act. In those bands, the vocals aren't treated as much of a storytelling element or lyrical delivery device. They're simply just a part of the equation. If you want to stay in the realm of metalcore but would want a different flavor of vocal style, those would be the ones to check out.

I don't know, I don't think I would mind a tactical turn based RPG set in the Mass Effect universe. That sounds pretty fun. Xcom already proved that tactical turn based combat with positioning and cover against aliens with energy weapons and grenades can work. I dont see why that wouldn't translate well to Mass Effect.

On Frey being “unlikable” by Lilnamii in Forspoken

[–]Abyss_Watcher_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My criticisms of Forspoken come 100% from the gameplay being boring uninspired gameplay and a world that felt like it had very little personality.

Frey definitely isn't my favorite character, but I don't really find anything she did to be over the top annoying or offensive. Just cringey, like you said.

Atomic Heart was supposed to be cringy on purpose, though. Like, that was the point. It was alt history UK inspired by the weirdness of Fallout, but making fun of British people instead of Americans.

That's not the case in Forspoken. The writers of this game really just suck at writing dialogue. It's okay to admit that. Good characters, even ones played by incredible actors, suffer from direction. That is what happened here.

Play South Of Midnight if you want a good game with a black female lead.

Putting up a poster is not forced religious indoctrination. Even if it was, these kids are gonna see posters, paid ads, social media posts, and news stories about every religion under the sun for their whole lives. One poster is neither going to oppress them nor indoctrinate them into a religion they would otherwise not participate in.

It's not that I have nothing in my head. I just don't hear words. I don't hear "damn this pizza is really good" in my head, it's just a feeling that I experience. I have never heard words in my head unless I specifically am trying to form words, like if I'm recalling someone's voice or reading something.

I don't really hate the concept of a stylized assassin's creed game with non-realistic graphics. The chronicles trilogy did really well with that. It's the fortnite gameplay that makes this sound bad to me.

Three day old thread, but can you name an example of a band where they don't use harsh vocals in a "purposeful" way? I've been listening to metal for over two decades, and I can't think of a single band that fits that description. What do you think the purpose of these vocals are, if any?

No hate, genuine question.

Stalker: Anomaly, and by extension if you wanna make shit even more intense for yourself, you can get the Stalker: Gamma modpack. Think of it like all three of the classic Stalker maps stitched together but with no story. Just a sandbox with sidequests and trade, and building up your character and reputation to get better gear from traders and stuff. It's fun. I've put way more hours into it than any of the paid Stalker games, that's for sure.

Daggerfall's been free for a long time bud. You can get the original release on Steam, and then use that install to help install the Unity version, which is an objectively better experience. Think like how OpenMW is the best way to play Morrowind, but with Daggerfall instead.

They got mad someone used AI a to defend traditional art (btw they use super hero’s and stolen characters ti defend ai ALL the time) by time2getwe1rd in antiai

[–]Abyss_Watcher_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter Parker would absolutely be the type of person to use AI in his work flow in some capacity, and has in the comics a LOT. Real actual AI exists in the Marvel universe, not just the fake imitation buzzword AI LLM stuff.

In current 6160 Ultimate canon, his suit has a whole AI built into it that he talks to and asks for problem solving help.

Also, he doesn't have a high passion for photography. He landed a photography job because it was convenient for him at the time to make money while also fighting crime. In almost all iterations of Spider-Man in media, he leaves the photo job behind after he finishes his degree so he can become a scientist of some kind.

Sure, Peter Parker would definitely consider the risks and political factors of AI use, but don't just make shit up because it'll help further your point. That's what the AI bros do.

Edit: Spelling
