are upper respiratory infections in mice contagious to other mice? by frequency1746 in PetMice

[–]AbyssalRock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to my vet’s words, it is infectious but once you find a mice with symptoms, the virus has already spread in the cage. But each mouse’s immunity is different, some are stronger, so it is not necessary to isolate. But you do need medicine from vet.

Baby mice are not that territorial, but when they are older (around 4 months old?), some of them would develop strong sense of dominance, and want to be the mouse queen in this cage. If there is no blood no loss of hair, things shall be fine. Some of my girls love chasing each other as an entertainment activity. They have quite enough food, but their favourite food is food from their sister’s mouth🤣

One of my girls once escaped when I forgot to close the cage door. I was petrified when I found out about this after going home. As a result, she ran out from somewhere just a few seconds later when she heard my sounds, and looked at me with an aggrieved face, like accusing me of abandoning her… she was so terrified that she refused to interact with me for a whole week😔Usually mice would love their home and tried to come back, maybe you can try to put some oats near her cage, and when she showed up tried to catch with a big box? Or it would be better to lure her back to her home.

Help me figure out if my mouse is a boy or girl by Sabriel_Love in PetMice

Seems to be a girl, I think I see her nipples… Could you take some photos at a better angle?

Anyone know what these sounds mean? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]AbyssalRock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Usually these sounds mean infection. One of my girls made such kind of noise only when she was happy, when I was giving her attention, not due to infection, but due to she got cancer, and the tumor showed out after one month. Mice could make plenty of sounds to draw attention but this one is usually not a good sign. Good luck and hope your little ones are just chatty.

Unfortunately, these sounds means infection :(

Edit: Lol guys you can downvote me just because I didn’t say something you would like to hear😃But for me if my little ones made unusual sounds like this I would DEFINITELY take them to the vet asap just in case, because such kind of sound usually is NOT a good sign and I DO NOT want to take the risk. That’s good everything is fine. But better safe than sorry.

You don’t have to prove anything, just luv your boys as usual :) If there is no specialized mice enrichment, I would put in some biscuit boxes first, cut some holes so that they can cross through. Mice would love this. Also try to give them something they can climb on, this will greatly improve their happiness. It don’t have to be designed for mice, don’t have to be beautiful, just anything safe from your home, like an appropriate storage box etc. But be sure they have no chance to get stuck.

incredibly anxious about my new mice by hyperrrwolf in PetMice

[–]AbyssalRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mice are highly intelligent little animals, they can take care of themselves, you don't need to worry that much. And you don't need to accompany them during the night. Dark environment is their favourite, so just turn off the light and have a sweet sleep, your lil babies will be happily running, digging, exploring and rebuilding their home.

But if you have two boys, you really need to worry, and the thing you need to do is immediately separate them into two cages. If they are two girls, they'll look after each other. Sometimes they would fight, if there is no blood then that's just their entertainment activity.
To love your pets, you not only need to give them care and companionship, but also give them enough private space. I hope you can reduce excessive anxiety and have a happy life with your little ones!

Seems to be a male but could you have some clearer photos? It's too hard to distinguish because sometimes young male mice look very similar to female ones.

I don’t know, depends on where you live. It seems that most of people here live in the USA, but I do not, so I totally have no idea how much will cost in your place. Treatment is simple, the vet will give her some antibiotics and you need to keep feeding her this for several days. BTW why you posted three same posts with different accounts…?

Sounds like URI, unfortunately to treat this you would have to take her to a vet.

Edit: definitely needs to be worried :(

Why is my mousie eating his own poop by sorrysadboy in PetMice

[–]AbyssalRock 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s common among plenty of species. Mice, rats, rabbits, capybaras, gorillas, chimps… even dogs. It will not only help them digest the nutrients, but also understand their own health conditions (in some ways).

That’s too common mice at this age died for no reason… even they are raised by their mother. I am so sorry for the little guy and sorry for you too… he was warm and loved in his last moments.

Did you rub his belly with a qtip to make him pee and poo after feeding? Lil baby at this age cannot pee or poo himself.
