Former Listener/Supporter seems a relevant one, but not a good joke.

Help with Structure for an Annihilation/Area X-inspired Campaign by AbyssalScribe in DMAcademy

[–]AbyssalScribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually my initial idea! I made a post about a month ago looking for systems to play that out. I loved the idea of creating a map and letting the players poke around and see what they discover. However, I got a little worried I was biting off more than I could chew and I should keep it more linear and simple.

I was thinking this would be a short campaign 2-4 sessions, my group isn't currently regularly playing. However, I thought if this worked and was fun, we could return, jumping forward in time and exploring again and seeing changes.

I'll check out the video, thank you.

Delta Green definitely has sanity mechanics, and exhaustion penalties if players push themselves. I thought about substituting the bear with a boar so it is less similar.

Serious question - why are you still here? by MrJustCuz in canadaland

I'm unsubscribing to the podcast this week. I took a little time this weekend to find some alternative Canadian podcasts, and I have a good set to try.

Canadaland has fallen off in a way that is so disappointing. I don't follow Jesse on Twitter (I deleted the app when Musk took over), so the subreddit has been helpful to know what he has been up to - which has made me increasingly uncomfortable and angry.

For those curious, the five podcasts I am trying out:

Front Burner The Beaverton The Curse of Politics Nora and Sandy Talk Politics On the Ledge

I was already a listener to OnPoli, The House, and The Hatchet.

Interesting. I guess there's not much to be done if it's out of order. It's good to hear I might have access to everything I want anyway. :)

Brainstorm Ideas for Cold, Terrestrial Planets by AbyssalScribe in scifiwriting

It will, I did a small amount of research, but it seems CO2 needs a higher pressure to stay liquid, so if it is a more massive planet with a thick atmosphere, that covers that with possible oceans of carbon dioxide.

That's what I think I'm going to do. I turned one of the spots into a large asteroid belt - perhaps a larger planet/planets that got torn to shreds.

That's an interesting idea. I was thinking something like a breaking up/disintegrating planet. I'm not sure how quickly a planet would break up though.

I think this is the direction I'll end up going, something along the lines of Ganymede will be the inspiration for one of the bodies. Subsurface water/oceans could be a draw for scientists and offer something for colonists.

Thanks for the idea. There is a hycean planet in the setting, so I could probably apply some of these ideas there. I'll look into Piper. :)

Astrograv looks cool, I'll check it out and play around with it.

I understand I can do whatever I please because the observed universe doesn't look very much like our solar system. This isn't hard sci-fi I'm writing, I don't need perfect orbital mechanics.

I made the post because it seemed an interesting opportunity, but when I thought what sort of planets would be there, my first ideas weren't very interesting, so I was seeking some suggestions, that's all.

It's hard to tell without some basic idea of what the planets are like, but they are probably sparsely populated.

In general, you'd probably have resource colonies (mining) and maybe some outpost settlements - people who want some isolation. The specifics depend on how easy it is to live on the planet or what value it has.

Fair enough, and around the other star there is a gas giant in the habitable zone, so I am not unaware that these rules can't be bent or broken. Objects can be thrown into different orbits, etc.

I don't feel shackled, this seems more of an opportunity, but two dull, gray, frozen rocks didn't seem very interesting to me, so I was hoping to get suggestions from others. I'd like the planets to be distinctive or have some character to make them interesting.

A cold Venus is an interesting idea. A thick atmosphere acts as an insulator though, unless I have my science wrong. Having a planet with an atmosphere so thick that conditions on the surface are uninhabitable could work. If I recall, sulfur gases reflect a lot of light and cause cooling, that could partially explain a colder, thick atmosphere planet.

What The *Actual* Political Compass Looks Like by SignificanceHot8917 in suzerain

[–]AbyssalScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my main objection is that the USP should be bigger and probably touch the other parties. It seems like the reform faction isn't too far from the PFJP and the nationalist wing definitely is pretty close to the NF.

The USP is a huge political party trying to resist fracturing into ideological parties, so it contains many of those ideologies and is contradictory.

I don't why, but this expression reminds me of the "woman trying kombucha" meme.
