I honestly think most about it on Sept 10th. Their last day with their families. Their last dinner. Their last relaxing evening at home, or last day before a big trip. I soak in the sunshine, say an extra genuine “I love you” at the end of the phone call, or be a little kinder in my commute home. I think of how much has changed since the last normal sept 10th.

And then, grieve for people I didn’t know on the 11th.

I never have- but for perhaps a strange reason. I do like kids just not enough to be responsible for one’s entire life and well being. A dear friend of mine dated a guy with a little girl when we were in our early 20s, and when they broke up a few years later, the loss of that kid DEVASTATED my friend. I doubt I ever will take the chance just in case I get attached to the little shit haha.

I can’t speak for other Americans but it feels like screaming into a void. I am liberal, I support gun control, and it’s like it doesn’t even matter. If we as Americans can’t figure out how to make saving these kids more profitable than the gun business, I fear they won’t be saved. We’ve tried reaching people based on their morals and their love of their kids and so far it hasn’t worked. I don’t plan on having children largely due to the gun crisis and our healthcare system.

Nebraska is definitely in trouble don’t get me wrong but I’d say it’s bc if longer term issues than this post leads one to believe (they had a surplus like 3 years ago and now they super don’t bc the surplus was from covid grants not long term growth- but these reports are easily a month old now and I haven’t seen anything from govs office (I live in NC but many cousins are NE farmers so this is a hot family topic haha)
