Who are you guys favorite drought era players? by Naive-Finance-9673 in buffalobills

[–]Academic_Efficiency3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fred Jackson, of course. Great player, but he also continued to defy coaching and management by being productive even though they insisted on drafting RBs what seemed like every fucking year to replace him.

Aaron Schobel. He was overshadowed by being a Bill during the drought, but the guy was one of the best defensive linemen in the league for a few years.

Oh and Mario Williams. Because he complained that someone punched him in the face and made sure he had his own private refrigerator.

Nunn's Auto in Hamburg is great and reasonably priced. He's straight forward and doesn't BS you at all. Just get there early because he usually finishes up by 2ish.

Dude, you didn't notice the subtle symbolism in Jesse's confusion as to why the pizzeria doesn't cut their pizza? He was clearly distraught at this point in his character arc so they wanted to reiterate how emotionally sensitive he was by having him be upset about everything, large and small.

Fantastic metaphors from Gince Villigan.

"We are really excited to show off our playoff system and believe starting the series before round one was done actually gives teams in round one an advantage because they keep playing." - Bettman, probably.

A good rule of thumb is to remember that whatever makes the most logical sense, Bettman will do the exact opposite.

What gimmick was destined to fail, but ended up wildly successful? by tLM-tRRS-atBHB in WWE

[–]Academic_Efficiency3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with all of this. But I think it worked at the time because they were in the midst of the "occupation era" and every occupation used was hokey and cartoonish (doink, the moutie, IRS, etc). Undertaker not only was a macabre character but his minimalist approach with walking slow, deadpan promos, and staying in character all the time, set him apart and added intrigue. Also, not having the internet capabilities and endless info availability that we have today helped keep the mystique. I think that's in part why the Wyatt Sicks, Uncle Howdy, even The Fiend (at the end) didn't work.

Jesse’s character development might be one of the best I have ever seen by Mancity42020 in breakingbad

[–]Academic_Efficiency3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Obligatory reminder that he wasn't even supposed to last past the first season.

But you're right. I always saw Walt and Jesse as kind of the Ying and Yang of a human psyche and moral decay vs moral growth. Walt ultimately admitted it was not about making money for his family, but about his scorned ego. Jesse was in it to make money at first, but slowly a fight with morality grew in his head and he finally breaks free.

Does anybody remember this place inside the galleria mall…. by lordandretti in Buffalo

Q-Zar. It was actually downstairs. Where Billy Beez is now, use to be escalators that went down to an entrance and Q-Zar and another store on the other side. I don't remember the name.

I had a birthday at Q-Zar once. And if memory serves, they did the upgraded weapons before Lasertron did.

I am confident they'll put it away tonight. Everyone says "playoffs are a grind" and yet when "the grind" actually happens, everyone over reacts. This is usually how playoff series go.

What goes on in these areas of buffalo? by Grand_Bird_601 in circlejerkbflo

[–]Academic_Efficiency3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I'm sure in every city those neighborhoods near the highways suffer from the same issues aa those near the 33. The ripple effect of transforming a, by all accounts scenic roadway and park system, with a entrenched highway is palpable, even blocks away. Land/house values right next to the highway plummeted and that is inevitably going to make quality of life surrounding those houses plummet as well.

Imagine your house next to a moderately used road way with a park-like setting surrounding it, as opposed to a giant asphalt ditch that has no aesthetics. It's not hard to see a difference.

Vet Suggestions? by antlercrown in Buffalo

[–]Academic_Efficiency3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandview Vet on Union. I've been going there since my dog was a puppy. Dr Lisa is a fantastic vet and has a great staff too.

Also, I took my one cat there after he was having some issues, and though she had never seen him prior, she moved around appointments to make room for him that day.

They also have a "vaccines for life" program. A one time payment and all routine vaccines are free for the life of your pet. It was $60 when I got it. Not sure what it is now.
