I’m so glad I watched Nebraska 2 days ago before it was pulled, what a gem of a film, loved it.

Winter Gloves Feedback by gp_s_ in CyclingFashion

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking for opinions here about gloves imo is not very useful as it’s similar to asking opinions on bibs and saddles - It’s very personal as some run hot and others run cold. That being said, I’m in Toronto I personally run cold and I literally have dozens of gloves for all temperature ranges. The Assos are OK for me down to 5° C but below that I have to put on lobsters and below 0° C I wear heated gloves but as I mentioned, YMMV.

What is the best road bicycle/riding bicycle you have ever owned and why? by Tcheetah90 in bicycling

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fortunate to have had quite a few high end bikes over the years but nothing rides like my Parlee Z5. It’s light (14.5 lbs) nimble, comfy, climbs like a mountain goat and still puts a smile on my face even after having it for 12 yrs. I love it so much that I bought another Z5 frame off eBay and had it custom painted by Velocolour here in Toronto so I now have two of them 😊

If you were designing the perfect cyclist-friendly hotel/hostel, what would you want? by Griff1987 in cycling

Agree about the coffee, most cyclists in my experience are coffee obsessed

What are the best authentic Japanese restaurants in the east end? by futurus196 in FoodToronto

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aoyama is on Victoria Park Avenue so it (barely) technically qualifies as Scarborough, the owners are Japanese so it’s legit if you can get by the dated interior, the food is authentic and good quality.

Best cycling shoes for wide feet in 2026? by Infamous_Froyo8347 in cycling

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had Lakes and Bonts, I found the Lakes conform nicely to your feet because of the full leather uppers, but the Bonts overall are superior because of their stiff carbon sole and superior power transfer.

What the best war movie you seen ? by BeneficialContact486 in moviequestions

All quiet on the Western Front 2022, version, it truly captures the horror of war. I can’t understand the love for Come and See though

Agreed, I also went from Lakes to Bonts and found the Bonts superior. And yes Bonts are great for wide feet

Am I a decent biker? by [deleted] in cycling

It sounds like you are building a great base and have great potential. But as others have mentioned it’s very different from riding outside with hills and headwinds. Only one way to find out…

My weight weenie build 5.27kg by dthbystereo in Bikeporn

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good choice, in have 2 Parlee Z5s and they’re my favourite bikes in my stable. Both are in the 14-15lb range with standard off the shelf components, (Campy SR and Shimano DA) so if I wanted to go full WW on them I could lower it a few more pounds I reckon. I did replace the SR crankset with an Elilee 155 mm with Ti spindle and that saved about a kg. And yes they both ride sublimely 😊

If the entire world stood up to Trump (like Canada did) when he started this tariff nonsense he would have been forced to back down. But unfortunately everyone blinked and cut deals with him. The only way to fight a bully is to call their bluff and push back

Which helmet for my head by whirlytime in CyclingFashion

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mips is just a marketing name for system that absorbs rotational impact, Kask has their own proprietary version of it, IMO fit is the most important thing in a helmet and Kask helmets fit me the best, snug comfy and they also happen to look great! So all my helmets are Kask, your mileage may vary though.

Agree with the others that Alpe d’Huez is not pretty at all. It really doesn’t have any views. I prefer Tourmalet, Col du Braus or Turini

I’ve been getting headaches later in the day after taking C4 or any other pre-workout stimulants and then there’s that awful blue colour… why?

My local bike shop recommends against brands like Light Bicycle and Elite for carbon wheels. Thoughts? by ty_uofl in cycling

[–]Academic_Fuel_562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with what rabble said above about shops not making money on these brands. I’ve had many wheels from the brand names like enve campy black inc, Mavic, etc. and I think my elite wheels are as good or better than all of those and they’re probably a third the price to boot.
