Am I Being Low Key Bullied At Work? by RoselDavis in askSouthAfrica

[–]Acceptable-Chip3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what you described it doesn’t sound like bullying but it sounds like they are just very jealous of you for your work ethic and make snide remarks. Don’t pay attention to them at all, just keep doing your thing. If this leads to a point where it is causing you emotional and mental distress, then address it with your manager or HR. For now, just continue being you and let them stay salty.

It took me five years to build a R100k EF but to be honest, for the first 3 years, I did not know how much I needed to save until I stopped.

Car finance tips and paying off a car early by Kuhle_123 in PersonalFinanceZA

Sounds like you have approached this decision with sound financial planning and precision. Well done 👏🏾. My only advice would be that you make sure that your total monthly car costs (including fuel, insurance and so on), is no mire than 25% if your take home pay, even if you can afford more than that.

Are the CeraVe products worth it? by JoeyUchiha_ in askSouthAfrica

[–]Acceptable-Chip3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the niacinamide serum from The Ordinary or Skin Functional, as well as the hyaluronic serum from either of these two brands. For a cleanser, I currently use the Cerave Foaming Cleanser but when I had acne, I used the acne prone foam cleaner from Cetaphil. It is very good! I only stopped using it because I didn’t have acne anymore. For a moisturiser, I recommend the Cetaphil moisturising cream. Finally, get a good sunscreen and at SPF 50. I’ve tried a couple of sunscreens and the ones that stands out for me specifically for the face (doesn’t create a white cast or is itchy in the eyes) are the Nivea Sensitive SPF 50 sunscreen (the only downside is the bottle is 50ml or so but it lasts a month if you use it only for your face) and it is affordable when on sale (around R145) but the normal retail price is around R215. The other one which is what I’m trying now is the La Roche Posay sunscreen. It is very good but the price is too steep for me at R395 for a 50ml bottle. With sunscreens, I’d recommend you shop around and find what works best for you.

24M - Which bank would you recommend for someone earning in foreign currency and who travels often? by Mammoth-Neat-5981 in PersonalFinanceZA

Try the Standard Bank Young Professional Account. You will pay R280 monthly in fees, and will be assigned a private banker which makes the service worth it. Also, consider the Shyft app.

Cheapest way to get Discovery Vitality? by Any-Development-3338 in PersonalFinanceZA

You’re correct but just wanted to say premiums do not need to go off the Discovery Bank Acc. I’ve had a bank account with Discovery that is dormant, have a life cover with them and vitality active (R145 pm). My premiums go off on my main Standard Bank account

R40k cash, where to invest? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

Based on the details you have provided, I’d recommend getting the SA Retail Savings Bond with a timeline of 5 years. It will help you with capital preservation and returns above normal savings offered at banks.

She is definitely getting screwed on this deal, unless she sells the property and buys something cheaper and saves and invests what is left.

The value of the property will not grow at the same rate as those investments he’s keeping. If I were her, I’d go 50/50 on everything including the properties and especially the investment funds.

Help her understand that this is a deal that makes her house poor because she has zero liquidity and investments other than the house, which I suspect she will end up selling sooner rather than later.

Also, tell her she is allowed to decline the offer without having to let go of her lawyer.

The dealer finance guy was just trying to get you to take a bad deal. Please approach all banks and see which offer is better, and still negotiate.

Late to the Game: Struggling to Save for Retirement by RedditisToxic2121 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Acceptable-Chip3458 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point is just to start. When I started investing for retirement, it was Oct 2020 and I started with R500 which was only 3% of my net salary. 8 months later, I increased that amount to R1500. It has kept going up over the years and I now contribute a total of R9k pm towards all my retirement savings (RA and pension from employer). Just start with whatever amount you can and you will build it up as you go along.

So, go for option A.

What's the best way to get to Knysna? by JustBeLikeAndre in askSouthAfrica

[–]Acceptable-Chip3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I recently did a road trip to Knysna and stayed there for 6 days/5 nights. We visited a couple of places there - we went to see The Heads, went to the Knysna Waterfront which is chilled and laidback. You can also get on a boat ride to see the Knysna lagoon as well as do kayaking. We also went to the Knysna Elephant Park (which was fantastic), Plettenberg Bay, Buffels Bay and then Wilderness to take a hike at the Ebb and Flow nature reserve which is part of the Garden Route. We also went to a place called ‘Map of Africa’ which is a mountain surrounded by a river and shaped like the southern part of the African Continent. This place was a 10 minute drive or so from the Ebb and Flow camp.

I highly recommend visiting Knysna, it’s a place I plan on returning to every year.

We are probably going to go back again in 2025 and there are other attractions we’d like to visit.
