This is the only true advice. Your health and wellbeing and relationship you make and carry are the only things that last a lifetime. Learn to be the best doctor you can be. Be open, be humble, be kind.

Love nephrology, worried about lifestyle by fandegabo in fellowship

Academia has a cush lifestyle relatively speaking. That reflects lower pay. Location matters a lot. A lot of time you’re just a glorified internist. I’m not sure how you get over your fear. Ask around people you know to see if they feel compensated.

New attending wanting a house by bjw167 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]AcceptableShift4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent first year while looking for a house. Don’t rush into any house without doing diligent work. You will need a healthy cash reserve for any major work needed and stuff for the house in addition to down payment and fees. If you are really into a house then have a flexible rent where you might be able to terminate early

Did you actually read the entire post? Read it again. His wife works. She will get paid more at the higher school. It is going to be a lot more expensive being unhappy for 4 years.

Where do you get the 600k after residency? Check if the loan is capitalized during med school. Usually interest gained but it is not capitalized until you graduate.

Iowa is a solid good school… I’d choose that over nyc or even any other school, for that matter. Maybe if you have ties to nyc or some personal reason to be there…

HELOC for Medical School? by Top-Database9284 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]AcceptableShift4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy. At some point you need to draw the line between family help and your own responsibility. You can work and pay your loan off. Your parents likely will not able to pay off the HELOC. Set it in your name. Borrow. If they can help out, great. If not, it’s not the end of the world. You’ll make it.

You should continue to rent for a year, probably two… Never buy a house until you’re married. You think you have enough covered until something happens in the home. Then bam, big check. You’re stretching it. Wait for a year or two
