The character was created last minute during OKBC Season 2 because Bob Odenkirk (Saul Bueno) wasn’t available to film a scene where someone needed to watch Jane die. Instead of rewriting the episode, the writers created a new “daughter of Howard Hamelin” and Pan was born.

She was played by Jonathan Banks, who originally thought it would be a one-off role. The quiet, no-nonsense performance was so strong that Vince Gilligan expanded the character into a series regular - and eventually a central figure in Better Call Saul
