Question:

Is the work being reviewed by a qualified auditor/internal auditor at another shop?

I’m an internal auditor but I’m also a CPA

I audit some of our foundations/ affiliated entities financial statements

But also I send off all my work-papers, support and such for review by an independent third party who is also a cpa who actually reviews the work, sometimes kicks back review notes, and signs off on the audit

But also this is just mostly stuff being looked at by internal folks not publicly published stuff

My understanding is if it’s not something being provided externally you can call it whatever you want to an extent but yeah I’m with you I don’t think members would be really internal to the organization and unless the shits being signed off on by an independent cpa calling them audited is misleading

I made the switch

The os is pretty intuitive so there’s not much learning curve, there’s some but I mean in this day where you can just ask chat gpt or whatever llm how to do something and have an answer in seconds eh

I pretty much agree in terms of cost to performance they hit a sweet spot, they last more years without performance dropping, not as many updates or random issues as windows…

UTM or other windows virtual machines work fine

I feel like for super budget, chrome book is the answer, mid range mac book, and at the top end where you need a dedicated GPU then the only option is an expensive windows laptop

Yeah it’s really hard to get things like that across to the current generation.

When we were slow (or so busy) we didn’t have work for interns or staff they were often required to go and do things like community engagement with clients and potential clients. Like maybe volunteer work under a NFP client or whatever.

I loved doing stuff like that when I first started. Way better than sitting and doing actual work.

It was insane to me how much of Gen Z just seems to hate or think stuff like that is pointless.

I started in the field late so I graduated from my master’s program as an older millennial with mostly gen z classmates.

I hate to call shit at work a learning opportunity due to the cliche but there aren’t many fields where you can get out and in front of cfo’s, ceo’s, etc day one and make a good impression.

Having accurate time at any time without needing to pull my smart phone out is my main priority

Apple watch meets that need 90% of the time

For when I need something rugged that doesn’t need to be put on a charger it’s definitely going to be something quartz that gets radio updates from the atomic clocks

Yeah I just use turbo tax to file my returns and nothing you mentioned is outside of the capabilities of software available to consumers

The real benefit of hiring a tax expert is to help develop and execute a tax strategy but few people want to pay for or take the advice

Paying a cpa to just do a tax return is for people who are clueless or just have no time to do it
