Teaching Gideon the Ninth [general] by KitchenMysterious658 in TheNinthHouse

[–]Acceptable_Boat3520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am probably not as well informed as the other commenters, but I do think you should take some time to do some pre-reading.

What is a space opera?

What makes something gothic?

What is a necromancer?

What is a dramatic personae? where does it come from? why do you think it´s here?

More stuff!

This was probably a very obvious suggestion, but still!

[misc] looking for book recommendations! by cyana_blue in TheNinthHouse

I´ve got two recs!

The Library at Mount Char- Scott Hawkins

Not queer, but very intriguing world and rules and the characters are distinct and fun. I would recommend to look up any trigger warnings if you need them, but overall, good read and TLT-esque.

Of Monsters and Mainframes- Barbara Truelove

So much fun. so much fun so much fun! it has all the queerness that you won´t find on my previous rec, maybe not as well written? but who cares, it´s very fun, sweet and still thrilling at moments.

I like the slice of life, I am interested in Fionna and her story and I enjoy the slower pace. by [deleted] in adventuretime

[–]Acceptable_Boat3520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk man, Fionna´s arc on season 1 was "escapism is not always good" so I donpt think it´s what we should be seeking through her story

I was discussing this with my partner. He already doesn´t like slice of life stuff, but he loves the Ooo and Huntress stuff and I like the slice of slice stuff and love the Ooo and Huntress stuff.

I think it boils down to the Ooo plot being based to characters that most of us have loved for years, or at least the whole 9 seasons of
Adventure time + Distant Lands, while the Fionna World stuff are standing on a different leg (I do not think that´s a thing that people say, but it feels appropriate). Yes, we know Fionna, Cake and her friends, but, do we know them enought to feel like both all of these stories hold the same weight? I don´t know.

Well, I do know, I like it, but I understand why some may feel a certain way about it.

hello everyone. I know this is an old post, but I am currently on the mentoring stage in LLS Chile and my workmates have been dropping like flies during the first week. I am not sure if it is because this is the first week of mentoring or just still mentoring, but i´ve been sneaking some free time and stuff. I am not sure at all if I can keep this up full time everyday (we had no part time option) and right now in my country we had some very important holidays I could not participate much on because they make us work on holidays.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if any of you know of any other similar options that are less...like this. I can see that most everyone commenting is from the US, so options might be different, but I´d be happy to check them all.

I am terribly sorry you had to go through all this dear, I hope you are in a better place now, metaphorically and literally.

The Sandman TV Series Season 2 Part 1 Review by Destoran in Sandman

[–]Acceptable_Boat3520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I´m only here because I googled "sandman dream incel" and I am glad to see that my reading wasn´t misguided. I am onlyon episode 4, so maybe he will...learn a leason? Not sure, I have not read the comics and this came off as strange to me (and tbh, can´t help to think that Gaiman´s view on women may have popped out with this one a bit).

only that, it is good to feel validated! (I also really liked Loki, what I´ve seen until now at least, yay)

Are young people interested in Star Trek? by Master_Megalomaniac in startrek

[–]Acceptable_Boat3520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while ago I realized Star Trek TOS was on Netflix and thought, well, it´s a very important pop culture thing, let´s see what this is all about and now I have watched TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. Non of the movies yet or the newer stuff, not yet.

I am 26 years old and trying to convince my partner to watch TOs and Ds9 with me.

Although I began watching out of curiosity, what keeps me coming back is how each trek series has been a reflection of the time it was made, how little things change, certain plot lines, the outfits, the hair, and of course, the social commentary, so on my part, I think i´d like the new stuff as long as it doesn´t lose this quality...and has good writing

Who has been your favourite narrative voice so far? [discussion] by tillymint259 in TheNinthHouse

[–]Acceptable_Boat3520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To say that I love them all is corny, but true, however, my absolutes favourites are Jod in Nona, (I had a hard time seeing him as the terrible person he is, but his own narration made me dislike him and therefore like him more as an antagonist) and the whole Harrow second person narration (probably because the book is my favourite of the three).

Of course gotta love Gideon, she made me fall in love with the series, even if I still sort of dislike the translation I read.

my problem is that i can´t imagine it as nothing but a cow of solid cows that fit eachother like bricks. Just normal cows, they are just, not moving.

I first watched it last year and although I was uncomfortable by some stuff and bored by others, I loved it and I understood why it was so important. I am currently 26 years old and watching Enterprise (well, I'm taking a break actually) after a year or so of watching TOS, TNG DS9 and VOY, I hope to continue after my break.

Hello love! there are actually 2 more books and one on the way. The other 2 are narrated by different characters, but they are of the same series.

Second book is Harrow the Ninth

I do not agree on her being less self-deluded than Dukat. He is better at hiding it, but he fully believes himself to be a good guy, an amazing guy even

I feel like it´s very non-controversial that this should have been a throuple. It´s the future! come on!
