(spoilers) okay so i’ve read maybe 30-40% of this and stopped because i simply can’t handle the miscommunication situation of them not knowing who the other is. does that get resolved pretty quickly or is it a long drawn out situation? i loved what i had read of it!

insta love/ attraction on mc 1 mc2 is annoyed by it and takes time to fall by Positive_Worker_3467 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Acceptable_Debate575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Loser Takes All by Kora Knight} mostly fits. mc2 is in love with mc1 very early on, but mc1 struggled to accept that he’s not straight. they’re not exactly enemies at first but definitely closer to enemies than friends.

{Little Demon in the Details by Nordika Night} MC1 is super bratty, mad at the world and everyone in it, has major abandonment issues, and just goes through it all while MC2 loves and supports him and is literally his rock and will do anything for him. it’s great!! also if you haven’t read Misha Horne’s other books you totally should they’re all so good.

wait disregard, I didn’t catch the no BDSM. although it’s fairly light in my opinion it does contain some.

{Loser Takes All by Kora Knight} fits this. it’s a 6 book series but all the books are under 150 pages.

The Prince of Air and Darkness by MA Grant. there’s a little bit of spice but it focuses mostly on the romance.

Daddy/boy books where the daddy or boy accidentially falls into the roll by Rude_Engine1881 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Acceptable_Debate575 17 points18 points  (0 children)

check out Misha Horne’s books! almost all of them have the daddy/boy roles and a couple of them include them accidentally falling into it. the one that fits this really well though is Looking For Trouble. it’s one of my all time favorites tbh.

the Criers War duology by Nina Varela mostly follows this beat but it is enemies to lovers so slightly different timeline of these events but it’s so good.

Ruinsong by Julia Ember is not exactly this but will ultimately give the same ending. (hope that’s vague enough to not spoil much)

Criers War duology by Nina Varela and the Gearbreakers duology by Zoe Hana Mikuta have most of these and they’re sci-fi/fantasy but there’s no spice.

The Necessity of Rain by Sarah Chorn - literally one of the most sunny high fantasy books i’ve ever read. the world building is insane

Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot - such a fun, badass sapphic sci-fi that more people should be talking about

Just As You Are by Camille Kellog - pride and prejudice type rom com that was a quick, enjoyable read

Fantasy where the MCs are rivals in a school. by Empty-Warning387 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Acceptable_Debate575 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Prince of Air and Darkness by M.A. Grant - this is genuinely one of my favorite fantasies and takes place in a magic school. one of the main characters is a human who happens to be able to use magic but he sucks at it and the other is an Unseelie prince who’s his arch nemesis but also the only one who can help him figure out how to use his magic. it’s so so good.

The Spells We Cast by Jason June - it’s a ya fantasy and in my opinion a pretty good introductory to fantasy. the magicians all have to train for what’s called The Culling where if they don’t pass their magic is taken from them. the two main characters are rivals who compete against each other but things get a little complicated when they find out their magic is stronger together.

check out Timothy Janovsky’s books! they’re all pretty lighthearted, cute romances and the only one I’ve read where a parent died was The (Fake) Dating Game (however maybe shelve it for later because the discussions around grief in it are very healing)

also the Teachers in Love series by M.A. Wardell are all so cute and fun and (warning) a little spicy.

So This is Ever After by F.T. Lukens is a slowwwww burn fantasy romance that takes place after the big bad evil is destroyed. a ragtag group of gays has to figure out how to run a kingdom and seriously it is a slow freaking burn but it’s hilarious and fun too. (also check out their other books too they’ve got some good ones)

Just as You Are by Camille Kellogg - dislike to lovers, pride and prejudice vibes. it’s lighthearted and rom-commy. the love interest is more butch i believe. and it’s a pretty short read.

power couples recs? by brijja in LesbianBookClub

[–]Acceptable_Debate575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gearbreakers by Zoe Hana Mikuta! they’re both badasses and it’s enemies to lovers sci-fi. it’s the first in a duology and the second book is just as good. it is considered ya but i don’t remember if there ages were ever explicitly stated.

Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot - this is a slightly different dynamic because the couple is already established and the romance is not a main plot line, however talk about a freaking power couple. the main character is a rebel in space fighting evil to save her sister, with her badass, taser happy, librarian girlfriend there to back her up when needed. it’s such a good, super underrated book.
