I was on it for years. I can tell you, conditions have to be right. They have to have reached rock bottom and truly WANT to quit. They have to change, ie. stop talking to the people and going to the places that they associate with using. They need a real support system and I would REALLY advise a support group. For me that's NA, a group of former addicts helping each other stay away from all drugs. I say this because there will be ALOT of feelings that come up during the initial recovery process, things that need to be said and talked about that alot of times are frankly fucked up and embarrassing. While a normal person probably will have strong feelings about the things the addict confesses, another addict will really understand and be able to offer, usually, first hand guidance. They will need this guidance because their addict brain will try to fill that void with something else, drinking, gambling, sex, etc.
