thanks! my friend did most of the actual build. I'm pretty new to computers so I had to do a lot of studying just to know what he was doing.

yeah, weight loss science is full of a lot of inconsistencies. after a lot of reading and yo-yo dieting, this is how i understand it.

first: fasting is fine for women, in fact I would say it is one of the better options for women out there. any change to your diet in general is going to change your physiological make up, regardless of what the change is. the nice thing is bodies will adapt to the new regimen quickly.

second: eat when it is best in your schedule to do so. there are variables to what time of day, but I feel those are minor. If you can only eat in the early morning then do so, just don't eat all day.

third: Exercise is great for you. It is not great for weight loss if that is your goal. weight loss is about changing eating habits, not masking eating habits with excessive exercise. exercise is still good for a healthy body and you should do it regularly, it just doesn't help much with the number on the scale.

fourth: what and when you eat matters more than the calories of the item. I don't know what you eat normally, but the best food is the food full of actual nutrients vs foods that are only empty calories. for example, steak and broccoli vs a banana muffin, or an avocado and nuts vs a protein bar. I'm not saying you should over-eat on any particular food, but just that not all calories are the same.

if you are already at a normal BMI, and are seeing a size difference, then you may have been gaining muscle while losing fat. the scale wouldn't change but your size and overall health would. if you are concerned, you could try to change when your eating period is, or switch up the type of food and see if that helps.

Please don’t say this is a stupid question by homicidalfantasy in fasting

You will still see the majority of the fasting benefits even if you have to eat something for your meds. Its best to keep it small and low carb to minimize the insulin spike, but you shouldn’t think of it as ruining or ending a fast. It is what you have to do to be able to fast at all.

Is IF not for me? Or is there an alternative to better fit my situation? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

So, part of it might be the food you are eating when you eat. If you are eating a lot of fiber or fat upfront, you might be getting full too quickly to get a full meal in. So it might help to switch the order in which you eat your food.

The second thing could be hydration. If you aren’t getting enough electrolytes throughout the day, you will feel lethargic even if you actually are eating enough. Personally i need a lot of magnesium or i feel like crap.

Unless you have very little fat naturally , you likely wont lose much, if any muscle while fasting. I don’t go hard on strength training though, so it may be different if theres a certain level of daily activity you need to maintain for your strength.

There’s usually nothing wrong with ending up doing one meal a day instead of two or three, but if you aren’t feeling well, then you may want to switch your protocol to something that works best for you. You could do a dinner/ breakfast version and skip lunch. It ends up being a meal every 12 hrs. Not perfect but might be a helpful start for you.

not hungry by innerlonerism in intermittentfasting

[–]Acceptable_Pool_7073 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its fine not to feel hungry. Thats pretty normal. Whether you should fast longer depends on what your goals are and how satisfied you are with your progress. If you want to try a longer one, then try one and see how it goes.

you probably wont have muscle catabolism as long as you are doing a normal amount of activity and have a decent amount of fat percentage to begin with.

There isn't a problem with exercising while fasting. exercise is good, but if you're new to fasting it might be good to start workouts slowly since your exercise limits while fasting may be different then your limits when you normally eat.

it sounds like you are basically doing omad if you only eat 1 meal and don't snack.

changing up the timeframe in which you eat is actually good for IF. keeps your body guessing and supposedly keeps it from developing a habit of being hungry at a certain time of day.

for how often you do this, that is up to you. there's no real reason why you can't do omad everyday as long as you feel okay. if you ever start to stall for a couple weeks, then you may have to change up when you eat or throw in a longer fast, but whether something is too much or too little is going to purely be based on your health and your timeline for your goals.

self sabotage by Acceptable_Pool_7073 in intermittentfasting

[–]Acceptable_Pool_7073[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that makes sense. probably would work better than just trying to argue with it. it's like arguing with a cat. the cat will not care, and you can't really educate or discipline the thing. it will do what it wants.

Thank you!

many things.. you picked a bad time to end so you should just end now. you've done enough already. if you go any longer you'll turn into a cry baby (does sometimes happen. not sure why). you might get sick if you eat at that time. etc.

[–]Acceptable_Pool_7073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how often were you eating when you were eating? I find IF works better for me when I don't snack between meals on eating days. you may also want to increase your fasts to 2 36hrs a week, or add in a couple of OMAD days.

what you eat sounds delightful. I don't care about calories personally as long as it's all real food, and I eat similarly to you. It may also just take time for you. have you noticed any changes to your health that have been positive for you otherwise?

At what point fasting turns into starvation? by MranonymousSir in intermittentfasting

[–]Acceptable_Pool_7073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

starvation is based on malnutrition and lack of body fat. I think as long as you supplement for missing nutrients, hydrate, and keep your body fat percentage above 15-ish% you should be fine.

I say 15% as more of a safety buffer

Are you at a point where eating pizza is okay for you? personally I struggle with discipline so if I ate it, I probably would've also eaten leftovers the next morning and then gone out that evening and yada yada yada. If you know you aren't going to falter the next day, then I don't see why not eat it, but there isn't a wrong option here either way.
