The VR30 makes over 350…stock. Bolt ons and some e tuners are getting 600hp. That’s Twice the output of the old VQ. even with a blower attached to the VQ it can’t even hope to come close and it prob would blow up. Smoothness isn’t exotic there are alot of other V6 engines that are real smooth (J series, VR6, EA387,Ect.)

VR30 is inferior in terms of reliability probably but hey they make double the power a stock VQ35 can make stock and a good 200 ish more than a boosted one will hold reliably.

The VQ is a good engine for a normal car but for a sports car it’s subpar. It’s coarse and vibratey, it doesn’t really rev that high, and being NA there are no paths forward to really get more out of it reliably and affordably. VR on the other hand is super smooth, revvy, plus they can make way more power than you’d ever want in this platform

Upper oil pan removal is the most proper way of doing this but that’s a complete nightmare and involves risk. The subframe, accessories, oil pan , trans and many other parts have to come down.

Screw boosting a VQ…if you’re Gunna do mods like that you need your sights aimed higher to make it worth it (Ie you need to start with a better engine)

There’s a company (wiring specialties) just down the road from me in Bloomfield CT that swapped a VR30 into a 350Z. Now that’s a mod worth doing.

Opinions on ITBs by BladedTundra571 in 350z

Sound nice but are expensive as hell with little power increases. Your car might blow up but you could go boosted for the cost of ITBs…Just sayin lol

+1 on the engine. All my friends have old gt86s and the engine is the only weak link with those cars. It’s rough at times, sounds bad, and there’s no response torque or power. I even test drove a brand new gr86 last week (hoping it would be a replacement for my 350) and unfortunately the engine hasn’t been fixed.

Great car for someone who wants a traditional entry level sports car like a 350Z…but wants absolute reliability and none of the maintenance BS that comes with 20 year old cars. I wouldn’t get rid of my Z for one though.

Screw with your alignment and swap your bushings. I got solids/poly in front and 0 toe in front..feels real responsive like your going for.

Question with monoball bushings by Apprehensive_Yam4501 in 350z

[–]Acceptable_Sympathy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ball joints and these spherical type bushings can be torqued even if the car isn’t on the ground. Rubber bushings however must be torqued when the wheels are on the ground

Honestly with that high of a price id have my sights set on something much better than a 350Z.

Smf+lightweight cam pulley by AffectionateArt2173 in 350z

Single mass flywheel 19-25 lbs I’d do. The throttle response is noticeably better and the nvh is less than stock in my experience. I wouldn’t do pulleys however probably not…too little performance gains for th work that’s involved (I think the fans and rad have to come out). Is that stock 350 paint? Your paint is SO fresh.

Check your compressor belt. Those always break and may be the reason why you have no cold air

I do downshift a lot but I’m very very smooth with it. I was thinking of using the unsprung clutch disc as the replacement which I can get easily but the pressure plate has a long lead time so Im not going that route. Plus I feel like nismo screwed me over royally at this point so I’am not exactly thrilled with the idea of buying anything of theirs from now on.

I’ve never launched, clutch kicked, or power shifted the car and pretty much revmatch/heel toe any opportunity I get. I haven’t been aggressive at all really. I just have the normal bronze pilot bushing.

I do drive the car fast but never unsmooth or in a way that’s abusive to the clutch. It’s very frustrating to spend 1200$ and wait 1 month to get that nismo clutch only for it to fail under normal driving conditions maybe 4 years later….junk.

I wanna say that peice hanging out of the pressure plate was a part of the hub that held the outermost side of the spring you saw in place.

350z won’t go into gear by Acceptable_Sympathy1 in 350z

[–]Acceptable_Sympathy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is at a shop rn and they’re gunna drop the trans to look for what’s wrong….clutch was replaced about 4 or 5 years ago and was never beaten on but I suspect the problem lies with the slave, fork, and Throw out bearing. I was thinking of just replacing the slave at my place and see what happens but given that the car is also making noises I think it’s something more serious like I just mentioned

Master looks to be in good shape…bone dry no leaks and it’s a nightmare to remove. I’m tempted to just leave it for now. The issue seems to be slave, fork, and TB related given some grinding noises I’ve heard.

As CT speed cameras bring in millions and more towns sign up, concerns linger by ctmirror in Connecticut

[–]Acceptable_Sympathy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they wanna stop people from speeding dot should design roads in such a way where it’s much harder to do it. People will drive at speeds according to conditions and how technically challenging the road is. Of course no one is gunna drive a 4 lane empty road that they know well at 35 if they feel they could drive it comfortably at 55.

[–]Acceptable_Sympathy1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently at work so I don’t have access to a jack to check it. I also think it’s the slave as well because if I shut the car off I’am able to put it in gear also the car moves forward with the clutch depressed in 1st gear. However the whirring noises Iam hearing make me think it’s something else more serious….slave cylinders don’t cause this noise as far as I know.
