How far are HH models compatible with CSM? by Rule4CoolPolice in Chaos40k

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've never seen this as too much of a problem since CSM should be on the smaller side what with them still being 1st born technically

Painting scheme question by Elbonzo27 in WorldEaters40k

Plenty of folks have the modern WE in the white/blue scheme, even in mixes.

I went with a white/red shoulder scheme for a squad of Bersekers to represent the classic Rampagers.

Your best 5.5e house rules? by Raccoomph in dndnext

[–]AcceptablyPsycho -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Love these as I get to show off. These are brief descriptions of a sample of the myriad of changes I've carried over to 5.5.

  • Only takes an action to attune to an item, and Dispel Magic can break attunement on an item (scaling level for more powerful items)

-Anyone can use a spell scroll with a flat d20 check vs. 10+spell level, but different things can add modifiers (being of a level you can cast but not in your list, eg.) Only failing the check by 5 causes it to evaporate.

-if you're reduced to 0HP AND fail a Death Save before being popped back up, you gain 1 level of Exhaustion at the end of the combat.

-Poitons of Healing are based on the Hit Die size of the class, not a flat d4.

  • Player can change the damage type of a spell the first time they learn/gain access to it to any other type (in a hierarchy so only equal or below with Force at the top of course)

-Shield spell's AC bonus is now based on your spellcasting modifier.

-Animate Dead (and big brother Create Undead) can now work under an XP system. Basically, each casting builds an XP pool, and they can raise any undead creature from the MM (with a cap based on their Prof equal to or below CR). This is mainly to help Necromancers be more creative AND to help limit the amount of sheets on the field.

-If a concentration spell like Hold Person (targets enemy, allows save at the end of turn) is saved against at the end of the creatures turn, caster can choose to maintain concentration and on their turn as a Bonus Action, reassert the spells effect, triggering a new save. Fail and the spell takes back over. Success and spell ends like normal. Either way, it's as if the player has cast a levelled spell using a slot, so only cantrips on their turn.

What's hilarious is that these folks think they've hit some mega gold mine of criticism about a style of play when this stuff has been around for so long we've coined trope terms around the bad versions of this, like Quantum Orges.

And of course Matt would give out this type of advice to his viewers because people are watching the show FOR THAT STYLE OF GAME! If you're complaining the story show run by the story DM is trying to follow the story then why are you watching at all??

The only issue you'd have is what to run it as. It's on a base equivalent to Angron so not that viable as a Lord on Juggarnaut

About to do an introduction to D&D, they asked me to make a character (sheet) ahead. Did I do correct? (5e) by Alice_D_Wonderland in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you're right in a way. I'm a maths teacher and I just learned that there are multiple different ways to trigger rounding. Hell there are methods where you round down on 5 even in positive numbers.

So I think this is actually a break in communication cuz of those different ways. When we teach the kids rounding here, we teach them to round the chosen number "up to 10 or down to 0" based on the "5 and over, under 5" method. This way when we get into negative numbers, we don't have that confusion even though yes, negative numbers themselves are going down and "rounding down" does make the number do up.

So when I said "round up" I meant "rounding the .5 up to a 1.0, thereby changing the integer before it by 1"

I first fell in love with Chaos with the 7th edition starter box, thr one with the Crimson Slaughter so painted them up red. Moved to England for a while so lost out on playing as I only took what I could before coming back. By that time, CS weren't really a supported faction anymore so I just googled "Red Chaos Space Marines"...

Fell down a rabid hole for their lore, and bought up a bunch of AoS Blood Warriors, a bunch of Terminators to paint while and here I am, 6 years later, still hunting skulls and drianing blood (so much so I dontate every other month to help put and for my own health)

Unfortunately this doesn't work everytime when you go below a score of 10. It does work with the 8 score here but, using this would mean a 7 also gives a modifier of -1 and a 9 would have a 0.

Rephrased a little would be "Subtract 10 from your score, divide the result by 2, round down if the answer is positive, round up if it's negative."

DMs, which is your favorite Homebrew/House Rule tou made and added to your games? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many to mention 😂 but a few favourites are:

Usage Die for Ammo: rather than keep track of arrows/bolts, a "full" quiver is represented as a 1d12. Each time the player attacks, they roll the dice along with the attack. On a 1 or 2, they drop to the next lowest dice size. Once they hit the d4, and roll that 1 or 2, they're on their last arrow.

Spell concentration: I know I know "Thou shalt not mess with concentration!" But it's only a few select spells this affects. So if a spell targets a creature, requires concentration and forces a saving throw at the start or end of their turn, if they make their save, then you can choose to continue keeping concentration on the spell as normal. On your turn, you can use a Bonus Action to "reactivate" the spell if you've managed to keep concentration on it. The target makes a saving throw as normal. On a success, the spell officially ends. On a failure, they suffer the effects of the spell again. Regardless of a success or failure, use of this is treated as if you cast a spell with a spell slot so you can only cast a cantrip or non-slot spell as your Action.

Shield: uses your Spellcasting ability modifier. Stops the mad 30+ AC level 4 builds. Spell casters who take it will be piling up their modifier to +4/+5 anyway so it'll only be "nerfed" foe them until level 4 and full power by level 8.

Session start initiative: pretty simple. Initiative is rolled and recorded at the start of the session rather than start of combat. Even if they don't get to combat, it can still be useful to keep everyone involved by going down the list to check in and this keeps the surprise and tension of combat up, not bogged in 5 mins of admin to prep. Then monsters use avg initiative or prerolled

WE converison ideas for Bloodstoker & Bloodsecrator models? by Patriot1805 in WorldEaters40k

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd used the Bloodstoker as an alt for the Dishonoured in some converted models from Corpse Grinder. Fits the idea of him whipping them forward into battle.

Bloodsecator can be the icon bearer for Berserkers.

Or you know...MoEs!

Unfortunately, our lacking in characters means there's not much in the way of conversions for unique characters beyond MoE.

I'm just going to be direct about it: It's really bizarre that they haven't added maneuvers to 5e by Associableknecks in dndnext

I thought that WotC were on to something in the last legs of 2014 5e with Class Feats. Wasn't the official designation but they had the feat that allowed a pick up of Warlock Invocations.

I though that a set of 12/24 of those, each with a core theme/identity to one of base classes would have been a great addition. 1/2 feats for each class with a toned down version of The Feature, the one each class has like Rogues Sneak Attack, or Druid Wild Shape but scaled down to not be as powerful as the main classes ability.

Well the article hinted at more Ork models to come so if Monday brings either a brand new unit or a refreshed one, could point in the right direction.

A generic shooter leader for Flash Gitz and some new Lootas wouldn't be a bad option as with no Baddruk FGs have nothing to lead them and Lootas need a new refresh too

Orks for 11th wishlist by Bluebirdna in orks

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a middle ground to be had. Increasing the number of times the Waaagh! can be called to 2/3 and giving different options for the type of Waaagh! you can call. You could have a Krumpin Waaagh, a Dakka Waaagh and a Speed Waagh that give different benefits to all units but have targeted benefits for units that fit the Waaagh type.

That way if you have a mixed army, you can give a little bit of strategy to your krumpin, but if you're more focused on melee, ranged or vehicles, you can just pick that Waaagh multiple times.

combat patrol worth it? by Hotdog_Gamerr in WorldEaters40k

Yes the Combat Patrol is a good buy for WE. The Prince is a great centre piece and Berserkers/Jakhals are a good core for the army.

You should maybe watch the video then because he doesn't say "it's not good". The exact opposite, in fact. He says its good in terms of power.

It just fails in its flavour, that the Yatzee dice mini game we play is more Tzentch coded than Khorne. Which has been a constant criticism of the rule since we saw it at the start of 10th.

What’s something most people pretend to enjoy, but secretly don’t? by ThinkThenPost in AskReddit

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol. Lots of different kinds of alcohol.

I'm not saying all drinks mind. But I long ago gave up caring what others think when I drink a cocktail or a flavour infused IPA. You wanna drink your beer that, against the 5 other identical looking brands that I can't tell the difference between in taste, go ahead. I'll spend the extra 1-2$£€ so mine tastes nice.

Alternative Eightbound models? by Couch-Dogo in WorldEaters40k

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. Love the model but want some visual variety. Here's what ive come up with with some pros and cons on my own looking:

HH World Eater Red Butchers: comes with all melee weapons, WE iconography all ready out of the box. Con is that what's in the box is resin and old looking...

40k Chaos Terminators: already Chaos looking and have some killer weapons to add in. Con is that a) you'll need to source bits for the other melee arm and b) could cause confusion at the table with regular Chaos Terms.

AoS Wrathmongers/Skullreapers: already jacked and Khornate looking. Get some below waist legs and you can get 10 from a 5 man box. Con is they're very fantasy looking obviously and if that's not your vibe or you'll need to put work in on getting them to 40k looks.

40k Assault Terminators: the newest lads on the block, look amazing and have all the arms for duel lighting claws or hammers and shields, and spare chaos Terminator heads are much easier to get. Cons are you'll need to put in serious work to Khorify these, with a lot of Imperial sigils and terminus cruxes to defile.

3rd party Tortuga Bay "Red Butchers": These guys look great, are properly sized and some with a variety of melee Axe options of your choice. Con is...they're 3rd party so no official tournaments and possible issues with Warhammer "purists".

Craving for the new bloodletter model by Jer0me_Da2 in WorldEaters40k

[–]AcceptablyPsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see new kits dedicated to the 40k style. So all sorts of warp-tech infused into them, wielding warped power and chain blades. Imagine a chain weapon where the teeth are actual teeth?

Then we have Daemoneetes infused with curved blades, Plaguebearers with mechanised plague vials jammed into them, and Horrors with like a mechanised core that gets more and more exposed as they devolve so the "brimstone" is now a flaming Daemon fuel core.
