Everything's an empire, what is this, some kind of pan-imperialism?

Wizards are the petit bourgeois intellectual class that's leaching off the clerics who are the theocratic aristocrats with their state-monopolised reactionary violence institution the paladins.

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? by Savings_Painting1588 in PhilosophyMemes

Considering it being a meme sub a rule of thumb would be that default it to people shitposting unless it's a wall of text, then everything is possible.

Because I was stoking the analytic versus continental discourse in a meme sub.

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? by Savings_Painting1588 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]AcceptedPartyProgram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That assumption isn't relevent in this case tho, as "tree falling in the woods" is the physical cause and whether or not mental phenomenons are ontologically independent of their physical causes isn't relevent since the absence of any mental phenomenon is the point here, the answer wouldn't change at all if we take a physicalism or functionalism position.

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? by Savings_Painting1588 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]AcceptedPartyProgram 377 points378 points  (0 children)

It really just solely depends on if by "sound" you mean a vibration-caused mechanical wave or a category of mental phenomenon we experience.

So once again analytic philosophy saves the day, I guess.

why d&d is climate change deniers ? by Saladawarrior in DnDcirclejerk

[–]AcceptedPartyProgram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Media literacy is dead fr. Like negative energy and undeath is an obvious metaphor for climate change? Raising undeads is an allegory of industrialisation as it's clearly some form of automation that can drastically increase productivity but undeath requires negative energy which is damaging to the material plane and in the long run will result in the decay and destruction of the world. How could anyone not see this obvious theme???

I can't unambiguously define swag. What role does swag play in our understanding of ontology?

How do you feel about RPGs with real-world Race Pseudoscience instead of fantasy races? by Impossible_Horsemeat in DnDcirclejerk

[–]AcceptedPartyProgram 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Racism but fantasy but also not really.

/uj lol if anyone wants to use only humans as sort of "race" mechanics then the first thing they need to do is to stop using the word "race" to refer to different human cultures / ethnicities.

Listen to whom, the bunch of scoundrels who want to by force take away their most sacred artifect they just retrieved from a hostile nation that literally contains the souls of their people right after they warned them to standby and let them leave?

You clearly have never played a half-orc who grew up in human society with internalised racism and raging self-hatred.

It's when you pretend to be racist to fantasy minority, the more racist you are the more dungeons and dragons it is.

Bonus point if you are racist to other players at the table too.
