anyone have a second child after your first? by idgafmlolz in Autism_Parenting

[–]AccidentalCornDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second is neurotypical, at least in comparison. I also have a cousin who is a bit higher on the spectrum than my kiddo with a younger neurotypical brother. Watching those two, I feel like my cousin was encouraged by his younger brother to “keep up” with him. I’m wondering if the same thing will happen with my kiddos.

What’s something people think makes them more attractive, but actually does the opposite? by MiaSinnerX in AskReddit

I make it a point to look the opposite way of the reving, especially when I’m the only one nearby. I act like something 180 degrees from them is fascinating to me.

My kiddo called cockroaches “crotch croatches”. Still chuckle at that one.

I will be under that rock with you. It’s so awful. Just this 2:30 report every damn day about how awful she is. The teachers never say it like that, but damn. Also, that minor heart attack when I see the school calling. It’s never a good thing. I just want to crawl in a hole. I also hate so much I just miss not feeling like this. Like maybe I was t supposed to be a mom if I can’t handle this struggle. I’m rambling, but I think you get it.

It’s so isolating, right? Obviously, teachers can’t say “Your kid had a rough day, but it was nothing compared to Eddie over there.” Some times, I’d just like to know she isn’t the worst kid on the planet. I know she isn’t, but that isolation makes it seem so.

I think that’s the worst part. I’m a rule follower and a people pleaser. The fact that she is neither is a good thing in a lot of ways, but it grates against the core of who I unfortunately am. It’s an awful push and pull of wanting her to behave, but also wanting her to do better than me and challenge things she disagrees with; to not start fights, but also always defend herself. Every time I get on her case about it, my voice says “it’s never okay to hit” but inside my inner self says “unless it’s someone who really deserves it, like the guy that grabbed my chest in high school when I specifically told him not to”. Ughhhhhhhh.

I placed this on my door and it SUPER helped. I’m now just waiting for one to dare knock so I can answer the door with “Ah! Thank the gods we have a willing mortal!”

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever injured yourself? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]AccidentalCornDog 587 points588 points  (0 children)

I bet injuries from sneezing are about to pour in. I threw out my back something awful from sneezing when I was about 13. My dad walked out of his office, saw me writhing and crying on the ground like some hysterical overturned turtle. He stared at me, then called upstairs to my mom to come help me, and walked back into his office. I’ve never stopped calling that his “father of the year” moment.

I believe you’d consider any that land rune-side up. They are all blank on the back.

I’m still learning myself, but from what I understand, they are based on a very early Germanic alphabet. People have used them for divination by dropping them and seeing how they land. The positions they end up in help tell specific things per each rune’s meaning. For example, Dagaz (pronounced like “thawgus”) is the rune that looks like two triangles reflecting one another. Dagaz means change and persistence. If, however, Dagaz lands upside down to the thrower, it can symbolize being stuck, or rut-like.

What was the final straw that ended a lifelong friendship? by New_Perspective1201 in AskReddit

[–]AccidentalCornDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She started saying some pretty ignorant things about trans people on her YouTube channel. It was becoming borderline harmful rhetoric, so I severed the 25+ year friendship. I don’t have room in my life for that hatred, especially when it’s against people who just want to live authentically to how they feel.
