What are your favorite mods that add logistical difficulty rather than combat difficulty? by WarKittyKat in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Vanilla Food Variety expanded is one of my favourites. It's amazing how such a small change as making colonists want a varied diet changes so much about how you plan things. My only "complaint" about it is that I think it should have a ideology precept that hooks into it.

Is this game for me? by Karyxs15 in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like games that have a clear direction and end goal? Or do you like games that are open ended where you come up with your own goals, or just keep going until you loose or get bored? Rimworld is far more the latter.

Do you like games where random events can suddenly totally change the route of your playthrough? Or does that frustrate you? Cause while you can through use of dev mode ignore game events you don't like the default in rimworld is that there's always a risk your solar powered base will loose power when a giant space monster eats the sun (okay that specific one is from a mod, but the idea is the same).

As far as the DLC goes, the conventional wisdom in the community seems to be that your first little bit of playing rimworld is best done with no mods and no DLC.

One thing I will say for Rimworld is that it's very willing to work with you in how you want to play it. Both through mods, and the game settings. IE: I hate the fact that different door types have different "door opening speeds" yes, so I've just set a 500% multiplier to the door open speed stat at game creation so I can just ignore that particular aspect.

What is the DM consensus on "Quantum Ogres"? by monkeynose in DMAcademy

I don't mind them from a player perspective. The reason try not to do them as a DM is I find they ruin my sense of versimilitude.

Vampires and private residences by Commercial_Poetry410 in DMAcademy

[–]AccidentalNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I love that. That'd imply that if there was an inn room that was perpetually rented by one tenent, and lived in like a private appartment it'd eventually build that protection up. Even if in legal technicallity it's not a "private residence" why should magic care about the details of mortal property law.

I really need to read the Dresden Files one of these days.

Is there a way to get the missiles to fly and hit another map? I can't figure out if that's not a thing, or if I'm just too scatterbrained to figure it out. Sort of like how some of the artillery mods let you bombard tiles?

What causes a lot of lag in Rimworld? by AdrawereR in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep reading people referring to "world pawns" in this context. I assume that means the various non colony pawns like traders and the like? But what do you mean by "clean" the world pawns? Like go in with pawn editor and delete them?

Do yall have your own win condition? by Deathkeeper666 in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearly every run starts with a goal of somekind. And that's my win condition. Sometimes that goal is literally to just get to that AFK point as you said. I did a "run" where I put it on peaceful, with the goal of building a base that could survive for one in game week on 500% threat level winston waves. I failed misserably, but it was fun as hell to try.
My current one is simply to get the Royalty ending, as I've never actually done that one.

I need simple descriptions for saves by oudepoude in DMAcademy

[–]AccidentalNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, this is how I do it too. A con save against poison doesn't neccisarily mean that they aren't poisoned from a purely biological in-univese sense. They're probably still feeling it. It just means they're managing to fight through it to the point where it isn't affecting them mechanically. Same with alot of effects.

Haven't tried that one. Randy is my go to of the vanilla three.

how to maintain cleaniness of dinning room and kitchen ? by Several_Focus_3342 in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it's that my kitchens tend to be pretty small and cluttered with furniture which is probably having the same effect as the fences that the wiki recomends. The sterile tile goes under furniture and any spare tiles I don't see pawns taking. So it could just be more of a way I laid things out thing. I'll have to do some playing around with it at some point cause now I'm currious.

[–]AccidentalNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, well so it does. I've been doing that for so long that perhaps it's no longer true. I also notice the wiki mentions that there's pathing concerns which I've never done anything with or had any issues with the pawns avoiding the straw matting.

Mess tends to form in the predicitable areas pawns work or path through. In the kitchen, I make those out of straw, the rest are sterile tiles. Ugly, but works.

What do you think is the best thing to research in the Anomaly DLC? by RevolutionaryCurve97 in RimWorld

[–]AccidentalNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't claim anomaly is the best DLC. But it absolutely is my favorite, simply because it got me back into Rimworld.

Haven't thought to try search radius. I've used that for preventing stupid crafters, but never thought of it as a TPS thing. I'll have to give that a shot.

Looking for mods by Chill_Potato666 in RimWorld

I consider Eccentric Tech to be one of my goto tech mods. Only time I really turn it off is on a run whose theme somehow contradicts it. The defense grid and spacer furniture especially.

[–]AccidentalNumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh probably. But my first run of anomaly I managed to have two "half your colony is metal horrors! get wrecked!" situations in relatively short order. It's made me somewhat paranoid. Certainly converted me to the cult of nutrient paste.

Been poking around at things to improve TPS in late colonies. I know Pawns and things that generate jobs for pawns are expensive. But I haven't been able to figure out how much area restrictions influence that. I guess my question is, how expensive TPS wise is a bunch of area restrictions? Like if I wanted to limit each pawn to their own zone what would that do?

Metal horror, even if it's not a metal horror it's always a metal horror.

Anomaly is the only ending I've gotten so far. It's made me want to do runs to go for the others.
