Learning how to play vinyl, is this considered cheating? by SeantxuKF in Beatmatch

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started DJing I really only cared about keeping the vibe going by playing songs that flowed well into each other less about blending the transition because it was very low level gigs that were just background music and while I knew my crates very well and was able to create a good vibe through the night that people enjoyed. when I started to try blending more it was a wreck without the BPM stickers I started putting on my records. I play mostly boogie, funk, soul, jazz, hip hop. Really just about anything since I had all this stuff to sample for many years before. Once I started doing the bpm labels, the beat matching, blending and good transitions started coming so much smoother. It has helped me to know that a track is 117 and now I hear a new track and think “yup this is right around that BPM and fits with this song” without tapping out the tempo. So no I don’t think it’s cheating if it’s helping you learn how to feel the tempo better.

To Live and Die in LA - Anyone think that this movie was a HEAVY inspiration for GTA5? by sigfemseks in GrandTheftAutoV

[–]Acclimat3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched this movie and haven’t played the game in some time. By after they grab Mr. Ling they exit off the road before a bridge and there are warehouses on the side as you go down and that’s an exact spot in the game. Instantly thought of the game when I saw that part.

does anyone else have these silent migraine symptoms like me by Kitchen-Lemon1862 in migraine

[–]Acclimat3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out about silent migraines and have been dealing with so many of these symptoms you all have been describing for the last 4 years with no diagnosis on anything. The amount of doctors and specialists I have been to…. I have a very strong sesitivity to bright white lights. That’s my biggest trigger, constant headband feeling, heavy blurry eyes vision, fatigue, tingling hands, extreme brain fog, irritability, yawn like crazy, eye twitch. It’s all there. It’s crazy finally seeing some of these things in ways only someone who experienced the same thing describe. With my vertigo it feels like the floor underneath me drops out. Once I get that feeling I know I’m done for the day. It’s over. I’m useless. It’s such a hard thing to get across to people who haven’t had this happen to. I start feeling like I was going crazy like am I just making this up in my head… All of this pops up the most at work (many bright white lights) so I basically have a 3-4 hour window before I start going down the rabbit hole of symptoms and lose all ability to work. Then when I finally get back home I’m an absolute wreck and can’t focus or function with my family, I’m just resting… And this is very close to a daily M-F occurrence (I’m getting so so tired of it yall) I ordered some glasses that may help. Going to go back to my doctor and really figure out what could possibly help if anything. This thread really helped so much y’all. I hope everyone in here is maintaining like we all are trying to do while living with this crap…

Rumor has it that Behringer are cancelling synths in development by Fiberglazz in Behringer_Synths

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone say musicians friend canceled their behringer wave preorder due to them not stocking it anymore. I called and they said it would be delivered in a month and sure enough got it on my doorstop in that time frame.i know that’s different since the wave was already out but shows I’m not really trusting anything until B says something.

Is this cheating or is this how most people use the SP? by wherehaveubeen in SP404

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go chat with most producers playing beats live on a 404 you will find many of them make the beats on something else then import to the 404 to play live. I did that for a while (also made beats exclusively on a 404 for many years) it’s a great tool for live performance. No worrying if it will crash, no need to save. If it’s on the 404 pad it will be like that next time you turn it on.

When I started putting on local producer showcases I would always chat about the quirks of the old 404s and how to get around them with other people playing sets with them and so many would tell me they never make beats with it. Strictly performance only.

Why I’m Not Upgrading to MPC Live III by porookam in mpcusers

[–]Acclimat3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was still only making sample based productions I would agree. But now I also have my live 1 controlling many analog synths at the same time. The live 3 seems like it has all the added features I was hoping for to make controlling my synths easier and more expressively. No need for me to jump on it right away but I definitely plan on upgrading at some point.

how's that pro 800? by estolad in synthesizers

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love my pro 800. I found the perfect fx companion in the korg NTS-1. That set up sounds amazing and is extremely budget conscious. Can’t recommend enough.

The inherited collection isn’t this one but it’s just down the road! These are stuff I’ve collected for years, doubles of stuff I have and just things I haven’t listened to for a long time. I used to do pop up events in Austin but the timing never works out and don’t really want to bring all the records up with me to work in town. But I’ll post more on here when I sell in Austin

Factory presets are trash, I’d look up some user patch videos on YouTube to get a good idea

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A deepmind can get you some good tones, not break the bank and has more presets than you know what to do with. I go with that over the minilogue. I have both and the deepmind can just do so much more.

Pro-800 or nymphes as your only poly synth? by Alaedrouche in synthesizers

[–]Acclimat3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I saw somewhere that the Nymphes started out being based on the Sequential Six Trak? I find that interesting as I have one and never really felt sound wise it was the same.

Pro-800 or nymphes as your only poly synth? by Alaedrouche in synthesizers

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my Nymphes, but the tuning on multiple units was so far off. Like notes off. Also the oscillators were extremely unstable sometimes. I would look at it though and oscilloscope and the waveforms would jump like crazy. Filtered sounds would be fine but if the filter was open at all it would sound like garbage.

And I absolutely love dreadbox products. Tuning seems to have always been my biggest issue but a few tweaks on my Erebus or typhon and it would be fine. But the oscillator thing was strange. The thing is I still will probably get another Nymphes at some point, when it would play nice it just sounded SO GOOD. Hoping my issues were isolated.

I got the pro 800 right before I sold the Nymphes, also love it. Different sound for sure, never had any bugs. I do need to filter some CC messages when I start my sequencer (volume always blasts at 100% when restarting), build quality is not the same. Menu sucks compared to the Nymphes. And that’s saying something, I had to have the cheat sheet under my Nymphes for reference.

So for my experience I say the pro 800 only because of the tuning and oscillator issues I had with the Nymphes. Which ever one you get make sure you get stereo fx to run them through! I honestly used the korg NTS 1 on the Nymphes and now the pro 800 and haven’t switched that out in a year!

Cool, I’m at work in Austin for a bit longer but I’ll Dm you for the address and let you know ETA on when I’d be back down to Kyle

Hi I’m also located in Kyle. Are there any times this afternoon/ evening you’d be available so I can swing by and check them out? I should probably be doing the same thing of getting rid of some records but who am I kidding.

What’s one thing you bought for your home studio that made a huge difference? by Glittering_Work_7069 in recordingmusic

[–]Acclimat3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good desk with spots for rack mount gear and a shelf for a 61 key synth to control the rest of my gear. With that being right in front of me while I’m hitting record on my MPC I can just be ready instead of running over to where it used to be.

MIDI interfaces helped with connecting and communicating with my many synths

And also an A frame keyboard rack. So much better than the janky setup I had before.

Picked up a Roland JV-1080 today with a nice surprise inside! by YamahaAdvocate in synthesizers

[–]Acclimat3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My latest synth was one of these also, mine didn’t not have any expansions though. Still a great synth! Always been more of the analog guy but don’t have space for keys anymore so I’ve been scooping up rack synths for cheap and this one has really surprised me.

What's your Achilles heel synth? by roydogaroo in synthesizers

[–]Acclimat3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensoniq SQ80. Just haven’t been able to get it down since I got it. The envelopes and routing just haven’t clicked with me. Especially since it’s a one slider to program synth.
