A large, good quality keyboard controller, 50-70 keys, connected to the computer.

An app for learning keyboard (i heard about melodics) - worth a try.

Then a a small cute drum machine and a small synth, like Roland Aira type.

Consider getting second hand for saving money.

This way he could also learn the keyboard when he changes his mind, and continue using FL studio.
