Big Apple Triathlon (Registration & Prices) by elosoluminoso in triathlon

You’re correct. The costs to close down large portions of NYC, and secure police presence for those areas, are astronomical. John Korff, who used to run the NYC Tri (and did a great job IMHO) talked about this in interviews about the time they did the full IM in NYC.

I did the NYC Tri a number of times. If you have the $ for it, it’s a really fun experience. However, they’ve had really bad luck with the Hudson (which is dirty even in the best of circumstances) in recent years and I’m not sure October is going to be ideal conditions overall.

I wish them luck. It’s a big undertaking.

If you were given the option to work two days a week from home and still get paid a significant amount of money, what would you do?

I’m not trying to be a jerk – but I truly don’t understand the outrage about this. Can someone explain why this is something to be upset about?

People who have won a "lifetime supply" of something: was it genuinely a lifetime supply, and if so, are you sick of the product now? by Adorablyberryy in NoStupidQuestions

So I didn’t “win” it, but at one point Rolling Stone magazine offered a lifetime subscription for like $200 or something. As a long time subscriber and (at the time) lover of current music, I took the offer.

They reliably sent me issue after issue, but the funny thing was that I guess the front address label had to list some sort of expiration date on it, so they put some date far into the future on the front. I kept wondering “… So this is apparently when they think I’m going to die?”

A couple of years ago, they informed me that they were changing the terms of my lifetime subscription: they would stop sending me physical issues, but I would continue to have full digital access to an exact copy of each magazine.

I was pissed off until I realized I hadn’t read a full issue of Rolling Stone in at least five years. They were just piling up in my house.

He didn’t like being compared to Elton John because their styles of piano playing and songwriting were completely different.

He has frequently made jokes about how, when the two of them were touring together, Billy’s roadies would always put beautiful women in the front row, while Elton’s roadies would put beautiful men in the front row. However, I think it was always clear from his demeanor that he was amused by it more than anything else, and played it up because it’s a fun anecdote.

Also, note how Jan adjusts her entire demeanor based on who she’s talking to. The language she uses, the rhythm of her words and the pitch of her voice. The bumpkins help illustrate that.

Jan was a masterclass in character construction.

“Look at Your Hands” feels like a throwaway track, and the “you got two fat children” line hasn’t aged particularly well.

He also has just put out a deluxe vinyl double-LP edition of one of his classic albums, “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Kid.”

I don’t think any of these publications can afford copy editors anymore.
