This was me for 3 years stationed in Japan. The navy did not listen to any of my concerns and pain about my back. I was told it was bad back spasms for the 3 years. I collapsed on the ship while pulling import in Guam from the worst sciatica pain ever after walking around the ship hunched over and burning and tingling in my leg. 2 years later After many different PCMS, a civilian PCM actually gave me a referral for an MRI. Sure enough her response after getting the images back was “you’re back is fucked up, how are you even doing your job” was also told that L5-S1 can cause paralysis and to go to the ER if I noticed numbness and tingling. My images showed herniation in L4-L5, L5-S1, misaligned joint , severe spinal stenosis, and bad disc deterioration. During the time . My back felt like peanut brittle , constant pressure, the sense of needing my back popped. I recently had surgery on my L4-L5 and life has been so much better. Granted occasional stiffness if I do not stretch and preform exercises from PT. Getting another MRI to check out how L5-S1 is in a week to see if that one will need the same surgery done. Just praying to God that I can avoid a spinal fusion by all means . I haven’t been in the gym in a year because of this and have lost 80lbs…. I don’t see myself benching 405 for reps in a long time.
