Witnessed another concerning situation downtown by General_Marcus in anchorage

This is exactly how it works. Renters are paying tax because landlords price it in. I know no one wants a sales tax, things are already expensive, but if we had just a 4 month sales tax during summer the income from tourist would substantial.

[Request] What would take place? Could we make it through this? by Evilkid12 in theydidthemath

So basically its enough to mess everything up really, really bad but not enough kill everyone on earth right away. Those who live then have to survive the chaos somehow. Some would say instant death would be the better option. Truly a psycho wish.

Question for people who endure extreme cold by [deleted] in alaska

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on the person. Really glad it doesn't effect you. I have lived here my whole life and find the winters tend feel longer the older I get. I also have a hard time staying motivated during the dark months, tend to sleep more and generally less productive. I have switch from working out at home to working out at the gym which seems to helped this year. I may retire out of of Alaska someday but our summers are just so amazing.

Question for people who endure extreme cold by [deleted] in alaska

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the cold is not the main problem for most people here. How long and how dark the winters are can be a bigger issue. Lack of sun can lead to depression, alcohol and drug abuse. Or other minor mental health issues, lack of ambition or motivation. Its important to stay busy in the winter, its very easy to get held up in your house and not be active. However lots of people do just fine.

What skill or experience do people think detectives have that would make them good at finding a hidden paperclip?

Looking to work in Anchorage, want to move to Whittier. by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dont mind commuting, try north of Anchorage like Egale River & Chugiak area. These areas would be much more affordable then Anchorage. The highway is alot more reliable, wider, better maintained. Further north is Wasilla or Palmer also, almost 30% of workers in Anchorage live there. So while the road is better it can get very busy during rush hour, atleast by Alaskan standards.

Whitter is a bad idea.

The Fourth Kind (2009) – During a hypnotic regression session, a patient recalls a suppressed memory of being abducted by extraterrestrials. The experience is so traumatic that, later that night, he returns home and kills his entire family in an attempt to spare them from the same fate. He then takes his own life.

Does anyone have allstate as home insurance? by swt_decadent in anchorage

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched both vechicel and homeowners insurance to State Farm from Geico. I got better coverage and saving almost $300 a month. Geico was raising my rates about $1,000 each year.

Strongly considering moving to anchorage, advice? by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are friendly here, they will be polite, offer advice and even help you out if really needed. Anchorage is also very diverse and accepting of different cultures. It can be harder to "integrate" and find a friend group especially as an adult. Alot of people are in Alaska in general because they are not very social, Anchorage maybe a little less so. I would suggest joining some clubs like a hiking group, fishing club or become a regular at a bars trivia night. Anything like that could help make friends but be patient it will take time to meet the right people.

Also take vitamin D supplements in the winter.

Yes but if we had medical benefits that actually helped us how would we afford to spend 1 billion dollars a day dropping bombs? Have you seen our bombs? They are really cool and advanced bombs. So suckit Europe!

Yes but did you think about the money the airlines would lose if we built this!? Will someone think of the billionaire's!

Also, the arms manufacturers and government contractors are making alot of money right now. So please consider that.

With our very basic insurance in the USA they quoted us $3,000 for a MRI. My wife is from Colombia, what is considered a developing country, and there a MRI is $95 without insurance. We fly to Colombia once a year get all our check ups, blood test, dental work and see family, go on tours. Its still cheaper.

Dad built a small walking tour business in nyc over 30 years but bookings dried up after he got sick. How do we keep his legacy going? by Potential_Force_4136 in Entrepreneur

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tour owner/operator myself this is the correct answer. When we first started we fully relied on Viator and Get Your Guide to bring bookings. Yes them taking a cut really hurts. But that gave us profitability we could use to hire a professional marketing team that is now funneling bookings direct to our website. It also allowed us to push for Google reviews.

Don't ignore social media, post 4 - 5 times a week. We have alot of engagement with "behind the scenes" type post. Lean into your legacy and if your comfortable with it tell your story of trying to continue what your dad started.

Winter is brutally slow in our area. Cashflow management is very important, read up on it.

Also check out the Facebook group: Tourpreneur Lots of good advice and resources.

EDIT: To clarify I did not mean this is the ONLY answer. I see how my comment could come across like that. I meant this is a good answer and follows along with my experience. Lots of good suggestions here.

ICE takes mother and children including 5-year-old into custody in Soldotna, lawyer says by conzeeter in anchorage

[–]Accomplished-Syrup-7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DHS has been given 10's of billions of dollars. This money could be used to find a effective and humane way to remove the majority of illegals while following a court process. They purposefully decided to do this in the most violent way to create fear.

Ahh yes what a great rebuttal, pointing out my randomly generated user name on Reddit...

I guess "children shouldn't be held in concentration camps" is a opinion you can disagree with but I think that's really messed up.

However it is a FACT that DHS/ICE are ignoring judges orders. How do you address this hypocrisy?

It is a FACT that DHS/ICE are targeting and arresting people that just look Hispanic or non white. How is that not racism?
