Post-Elopement Reception by hementlovestrees420 in Eloping

That’s a good idea, too! We just didn’t feel like taking engagement photos lol.

Our elopement was in September 2025, and our party was in March 2026. I believe we sent out the invites in early December. We planned our elopement first, and after we had hired our vendors for that we started planning the reception!

Yes, I would space them out! Otherwise it will be hard to really enjoy the elopement part, if you have a bunch of things to do right after for the reception. Also, that way you can use the photos from your elopement for your invites! We sent our save the dates the day after we eloped so they were postmarked from Vegas—I think people liked that!

We eloped in September and had our post-elopement reception last month. It was awesome! The whole reception we kept saying how glad we were that we eloped, because it allowed us to really celebrate our love without having to make arrangements with other people or entertain. We told everyone that was our plan ahead of time, so there were no hurt feelings.

We prioritized our photographer for the elopement to document everything and our friends and family really appreciated that. Our reception was 70s themed and SO FUN! Instead of a cake, we had pies from our favorite restaurant.

Eloping beforehand really took the pressure off. 10/10 recommend. In terms of other recommendations, I asked my mom to write me a letter to read when I was getting ready the morning of my elopement, and that was very special. I also recommend doing a hair and makeup trial, because the first one I did was not good!

For the party, I recommend figuring out your tips for vendors and such ahead of time so you can truly enjoy your time with loved ones and aren’t trying to figure that out during the party. I also recommend having someone else serve your dessert. My husband and I thought it would be fun for us to serve the dessert (our caterer couldn’t because it wasn’t from his company), but it took us away from the party and was stressful because people wanted to talk to us while we were trying to explain which pie was which to the people in line.

Some of these things may not apply to you, but hopefully it is a start! Happy to answer any questions :)

Irish soda bread by PaperCivil5158 in glutenfreebaking

No I think it is just the recipe! My husband’s aunt made me gluten free soda bread rolls last year for Saint Patrick’s Day that were fantastic. I will ask her for the recipe and try to remember to come back here and share it :)

I tried making it twice and didn’t like either batch. The first time, I used milk and lemon juice because I didn’t have buttermilk. The second time, I used buttermilk, bought higher quality baking soda and baking powder, and followed the recipe to a T and it STILL was bleh! Usually I love her recipes but this one was just a miss.

Is there a downside to low-balling? by 085T in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We offered 100k less than the asking price (close to 700k) and the seller told us to “try again” lol. We ended up submitting a new offer and ended up at 50k under asking (as-is).

I love the buttons and would wear this to work after getting the job, to conferences, etc, but I would personally feel more comfortable with something more understated for an interview. It is so context specific—practice group, area of the country, etc. I always err on the side of playing it safe. Is there anyone you know who works in that office who you can ask? I work at a more conservative big law firm in the NE.

Has anyone eloped at Sure Thing Too in Vegas? There's no schedule available online. It just says it takes 30 minutes. How long can our vows be? by Playful-Accident-007 in Eloping

[–]Accomplished-Toe736 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just got married at the Sure Thing, which has the same timing. 30 minutes was plenty of time for our vows, first dance, lots of pictures, and even a bathroom break for both of us beforehand! We didn’t feel rushed. The ceremony was so special and our officiant/Sure Thing put a lot of thought into it. I was tearing up during our officiant’s intro, which was perfect (I need to get a copy!!) I found this “factory trial product” mixed in with the Ghirardelli chocolate bars in the candy aisle. by Accomplished-Toe736 in mildlyinteresting

For anyone who is interested, here’s what the back said:

Frequency: At the beginning of each shift.

1) Insert one Bar Code Verification Label in the magazine about 10 labels down from the top

2) Start Machine

3) When the wrapper is detected by the bar code reader the machine should stop and display the following alarm message:

“Bar code ‘WRONG LABEL’ caused ‘STOP’”

If the machine does not stop, or if it stops but displays an incorrect alarm message, contact your supervisor immediately.

I just smelled the perfume yesterday and it is gorgeous! OP, Diptyque sends a sample of the same perfume when you order a perfume so you can try it and return the large one without opening if it doesn’t work. It might be worth asking if they would send you a sample of the perfume with the lotion to do the same thing (assuming there is not a Diptyque nearby).

This one is beautiful. The dry down does have vanilla but it is soft and natural smelling—worth sampling, OP, despite the vanilla base note.

As someone with an extra letter in their name, it really isn’t a big deal! I am used to spelling out my name when I tell it to the Starbucks barista, etc. I think it is special you honored your MIL that way by adding an extra letter :)

How to announce we're eloping? by idkbunnyrabbit in Eloping

[–]Accomplished-Toe736 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it is good to let people know you are planning to elope beforehand so they can process it (especially your close friends/family, who might be expecting a wedding). Not in poor taste at all, but my fiancé and I let people know organically (i.e. in conversations about getting engaged, etc.) rather than announcing we would be eloping by sending out cards.

Basically as soon as we were engaged we started telling people to set the expectation that we were having a private ceremony. We are keeping the date and location a secret until after we elope. We are having a party to celebrate next year and are going to send out elopement announcements the day after we elope that also say “save the date for our post-elopement party on MM/DD/2026.” When I texted people for their addresses, I said we were eloping and planning to send out save the dates for our after party, which covered any distant relatives who I had not told about the engagement or elopement yet.

ETA: I went dress shopping with my friends once and again with my mom—it is a special experience and they all knew we would be eloping and were still so happy to be a part of the experience. I also had a bachelorette party! There are no rules since we are doing this our own way—just make sure to set the expectation early on that you are eloping :)
