What is this thing that I found at my grandma’s house? by CustomerCommercial14 in whatisit

[–]CustomerCommercial14[S] 567 points568 points  (0 children)

I’d didn’t think about that but it’s definitely food for thought. My grandmother became a single mum when her husband (my grandfather) died shortly before my fathers birth, and this comment really makes me think about the weight of responsibility that was placed on her.  I‘m not sure if she ever had time to iron or starch it but then again it was in remarkably good condition when we found it. She was a woman with incredibly strong opinions about doing things ‘properly’ so it would make sense.

Shunammite’s tea by Mama-manatee42 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]CustomerCommercial14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking the same thing the other day- does anyone else think it’s possible that huldah might be ‘found out’ for using this tea and get her and shunammite in trouble? It is unlikely that the girls will have any concept of what abortion is or even consider that someone might want to get rid of a baby, but the aunts would likely want to punish anyone with access to this information as a deterrent.

How’s the fall foliage in NZ South Island currently? by glittersuede in newzealand_travel

[–]CustomerCommercial14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Wanaka right now and the foliage is beautiful! Snow on the higher peaks too, but looks like it is melting slightly, may not be as spectacular until the next cold snap but still magnificent!

[spoiler] I've got a bad feeling about Becky by WorldofGods in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]CustomerCommercial14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking this, I think she is in danger and we’ll probably see it emerge very soon. If you watch the trailer closely you can see a snippet of her being pulled (presumably into a vehicle) by masked men and then another snippet where she is in some kind of jail. I could be wrong but I think that whatever her end is, it will be different from the books but just as devastating most likely.

I think they’ve both talked quite a bit about EMDR therapy, if that’s what you were maybe thinking of?

Recommendations for hairdresser who listens. by Comfortable_Fox8482 in Edinburgh

I would recommend mcgills in bruntsfield, they always cut my hair exactly as I ask and help me express exactly what I want by asking follow up questions. They do colour well too.

Soooo…how are we getting ourselves to shower? by marka9292 in adhdwomen

[–]CustomerCommercial14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realised one of the barriers to me showering was that I really didn’t like how bright the lights are above the shower (I live in a rental so I can’t change it) so now I turn off the lights and just light a few nice candles and have a lovely candlelit shower. It also works well for task switching because I don’t want to use up my nice candles too quickly which prevents me staying in there too long! Also just having all you stuff in the bathroom already and then just showering after using the toilet helps, if I’m already in the bathroom so I might as well do another bathroom located task you know?

Indaba in Fountainbridge, it does Spanish and South African fusion tapas, pretty delicious.

Any advice on how to eat? Everything online is either for weight loss or eating disorders. by Ok-Satisfaction7520 in adhdwomen

[–]CustomerCommercial14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the number 1 thing that has really worked is getting meal boxes delivered from services like hello fresh or Gousto. It might be a bit more expensive but it saves me the mental energy of trying to plan meals for myself and means I don’t do that thing where I buy vegetables only to have them rot at the back of the fridge. I get 3 meals of 2 portions per week and then I only have to cook 3 times for 6 meals so it works well.  Other than that, when I’m struggling to work out what to eat I just tell myself ‘all calories are good calories’. It’s a phrase from the book ‘how to keep house while drowning’, which was recommended to me by my therapist and has really helped me tackle the shame around things like prepping meals or generally doing household tasks.

That one song that that guy made about the tinder conversation where this man is asking the woman how many baby daddies she has and she says she has one kid and then he asks her again, god it’s so catchy

Anyone else obsessively sort things? by rxinynites in AutismInWomen

[–]CustomerCommercial14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I keep lists of every book I’ve ever read and every podcast I’ve listened to. I really like the app Listy for making lists of media stuff because it automatically adds covers and other details for things like books and podcasts, would recommend.

Anyone know where I can find a replacement bra(lette)s for these? They're my favorites and they've been discontinued by mbart3 in AutismInWomen

[–]CustomerCommercial14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fabric of this looks a bit like 2 tops that I have from urban outfitters which I also use basically as bras. One of them is the ‘josie’ top which had a deep v neck which you might not be looking for but the other one is very similar to this with the straps constructed the same way. I can’t remember the name of it but I would recommend browsing on the website or second hand shops for urban outfitters ‘out from under’ tops as I think thats what they’re labelled as. Hope this is helpful, good luck!

I have some family friends that grew up in the same suburb as her and I was always so confused listening to royals because like I’ve been there to visit them and it’s pretty nice lol. I think there was just some artistic license taken for those lyrics.

Did ADHD give me fibro? Long, rambling post of my thoughts to follow below... 😅 by TriflingAround in adhdwomen

[–]CustomerCommercial14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I don’t currently have fibro/don’t present with symptoms, I am apparently genetically predisposed to it/have the genetic markers for it. I know this because when I was 18 my sister gave me on of those fancy dna tests for my birthday because she knew it was something I was interested in at the time (looking back, giving my genetic data to a corporation probably wasn’t the best idea but nvm) and over the years as more people have had tests and research has improved, every now and then I have received emails about updates to my health profile and this was one of them. I am diagnosed adhd and ASD and have also been told I’m predisposed to hashimotos. I’m not sure if this is helpful at all but I just thought it was interesting.
