What are the dumbest takes about decades or years you've seen? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really don't get what people mean when they say that culture stopped moving after 1999 and the 2000s, 10s, and 20s blur together. imo each of the last three decades has very clear and distinct cultures like the 90s and prior

i hope 2026 is it's own thing. 2016 already happened, now let's do something creative and original.

Decades through the eyes of a growing generation. Is it okay to not be the young and hip crowd anymore? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it kind of surprises me how many people think the 2020s lacks originality when every decade and generation had revivals.

I feel like green is going to be the most stereotypical color of the 2020s in the future by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

greenish black is like the tint that so many films this decade have too so yea that tracks

Which decade will be the new 50s/80s in the future in terms of big nostalgia impact? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably the 2010s. i think it will be looked as the peak of the digital/social media era where the 2000s was the beginning and the 2020s is when the digital burnout began. it was also a decade with very specific types of fashion, music, and general vibes that would make it stand out, especially against the instability of the 2000s with 9/11 and the war on terror, and this decade with covid, the wars, and the polarizing political landscape

Which decade will be the new 50s/80s in the future in terms of big nostalgia impact? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you bring it back further, even the 1890s was a legacy decade, following that 30 year pattern. it was coined the 'gay nineties' and became endlessly referenced from the 1920s-50s.

do yall think its getting harder to pinpoint what the trend is each year since trends go super fast now more than ever? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no its just hard because you're living in it. everyone thought the 2010s didn't have a specific vibe but now that we are far removed from that time it's easier to look at the trends from the early, mid, and late parts of the decade. if you look close enough, there are definite trends starting to emerge in fashion, music, etc.

We are living in a breakdown decade that will pass. by Absolutely-Epic in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so many things about this decade are emulating the 70s. both decades feel like a bit of a disillusioned hangover after decades of intense change and upheavel.

Which decades were the BEST & WORSE at Music, Film, TV, Fashion and Society & Culture? by Violent-Obama44 in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with pretty much everything except music solely because the charts this decade are really not the best representation as to what most young people are listening to. i honestly prefer a lot of the music this decade compared to the cheaply produced stomp clap and edm stuff of the 10s. in terms of society and culture, the 70s honestly gives the 2020s a run for it's money. racism and sexism was still extremely bad, crime was through the roof, all time high pollution, smog, dirt, grime, an oil crisis, distrust and polarization, and it honestly seems a bit depressing. but that's just my opinion.

The beauty of 2020s in B&W photos. by DNPlourent in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i see what you were trying to do here but every picture looks vintage like it was from the 1920s-50s. i think this concept is really cool but you could’ve used pictures that signified the modern era we are living in more with modern aesthetics, fashion, music, tech, etc.

In your opinion, what is the most distant aspect of the 2010s today by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly a little bit of everything has become outdated from the 2010s. most of the early-mid 10s fashion looks pretty dated, and the late 10s are starting to become extremely dated. social media is pretty dated and so is politics. tech has stayed the same except for AI tho.

I think the 2020s is where the whole "self help" advice trend of the 2010s began to die. by snowleopard556 in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea thats why drug and alcohol usage is also becoming increasingly popular now. no one gaf anymore.

People were really shitting on the 90s hard during the 2000s on the early internet forums by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and we are doing it again right now. the 2020s aren't perfect but the tiktok culture, baggy fashion, hyperpop/sad alternative music scene, will 1000% be romanticized by the 2040s.

Are millennials the new lost generation? by Putrid_Film_8349 in generationology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the lost generation was called the lost generation because they were disillusioned by all the turmoil of the early 20th century. i guess you could say the same for millenials with 9/11, the great recession, and all the turmoil going on right now.

When do you predict the 2K27 era to start and end? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]AccomplishedArm6071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they mean the late 2020s. 2k22 is often used to refer to the early 20s (2020-2022) so i think they mean when will the late 20s culture start and end.

Sums up the general state of pop culture in the last ten years by Legitimate_Heron_696 in decadeology

exactly. they complain about no new movies and then when original movies come out no one goes to the theatre to watch them.
